  • This week Plant Lovers....working through my spring to do list! It's time to repot my Miltonia guanabara which is definitely making a break for the hills! After seeing another local grower's sensational specimen grown outdoors under cover all year in a large shallow dish I decided to reach for the nearest artisan made bonsai dish and give it a go! I've made a care video about this plant which you can see here: • How to grow Miltonia o... and a video comparing Miltonias with Miltoniopsis which you can see here: • The differences betwee...
Here is a link to the bonsai shop near me where I bought the dish: bonsaifarm.tv/ and this a link to the Mycorrhizal fungi I use but you'll be able to find a brand on line or in good nurseries where ever you are: biostim.com.au...

Hi Matthew, the orchid looks very nice in that bonsai pot. I enjoyed the full repot process. Have a great week.

I love that. I like that. I’m afraid I’m a little to warm for those. I have a Miltoniopsis and it’s really struggling. Due to fires, we had to evacuate two times. Both times I had to leave my orchids behind in triple digit weather for 11 days the first time and 12 the next time. Two years later it’s still struggling. I love your bonsai tray, that will look beautiful when that blooms.

Oh no - that's an awful situation to be in! Hopefully it won't be such an intense season this year!

I have started potting some of my oncidium type orchids that “run” in bonsai pots as well and they seem to really appreciate it. And bonus they look beautiful.

One of the best uses for Bonsai pots I've seen and a lovely pot style for this orchid too. Love the brassy watering can as well! Would the amount of old 'dead' roots have served a sort of anchoring function for the plant as it gained size in nature I wonder? The bigger it gets the more anchor it might need for its weight, whilst the newer roots supply it with the nutrient transfer. Not really relevant in cultivation but it might be of use in the wild.

Probably! I guess the old roots dry and retain their 'glue' so they would anchor the plant until they ultimately decomposed?

Bonsai pot/ dish 👍,what a great find 😍. I need to repot ( in spring) my Oncidium Aloha Iwanaga x Oncidium Varicosum ,it's a climber. This idea of bonsai dish potting gives me hope for getting fuller, bigger plant without cutting off pseudobulb every 2 years. Thank you for sharing this tip. Great repotting btw.👍😁🌸

I have a few climbers....it's an issue isn't it! I want them to be able to 'run free'!! Thanks for watching!

A there it was, the Miltonia repot! This might become a large plant pretty soon. Mine did take off at this size.

That’s what that tiny beading is I found in my pots once I repotted a newer orchid for the first time. Fungi stuff you said 😅 I thought it was maybe mold or something.

You certainly selected a lovely pot for this Miltonia. The pot color should go very well with the orchid flowers. Enjoyed watching this video.

Hi Matthew, love your channel and you. can you share the full name of the root promoter the you use. please. I'm Jasmine, also an amateur gone crazy. At this point, my plans are the only things that make me deeply happy inside.

Hi there - thanks for watching! I use: biostim.com.au/shop/myco-gold/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtvSdBhD0ARIsAPf8oNlXpOd4W8GpeS-CwxFiJ9lkvfZbunVhhaAU8U7Vm7odVAcxQ--Jw8YaAjDNEALw_wcB - but fungi is fungi so where ever you are in the world just google around to find a good local brand. Good luck!

Hello! Watching this 11 months on as my cat just knocked over my young miltonia - so I was wondering if there was a better way to pot it. I would love to see yours now - nearly a year later. Is there a follow up video on it?

That's one of the things I don't like about many of the Miltonia, the sprawling habit (the other being that many of them smell of black licorice/anise). Milt. candida and clowesii are a little better behaved and smell more floral.

Mine is a baby with limited roots. Will it survive if I pot it? Or should I strap it on a log?

    • @helloplantlovers
      @helloplantlovers  14 дней назад +1

Depends where you are and your climate. In my conditions I'd pot it. Good luck!

I'm in South Africa Durban. Warm and humid. I want tpot her in a pot like you did! Looks super awesome. The baby I bought has a few very short roots and was mounted (but didn't take yet) when I received it. Should I leave on mount or repot? Humid and very hot in summer.
