Destin: this took me 8 months to learn. How long will it take you?
Mike: lol a few hours
to be fair he didn't learn it nearly in the same level of mastery as Destin did
That guy from next door yea but he had the basic idea and he could do it quicker than destin
That guy from next door yeah but in just a few hours after a few days destin probably couldn’t even ride a foot. look at the ending of the video of him riding on the drone footage. hes doing super well. about as good as destin was doing
@@newaccount90356 It's important to note the difference in their methods though. Destin was at the dame place doing 5 minutes a day according to him. Mike was doing 15 in the start. After two days Mike devoted the time Destin would in 6. And, keep in mind that although it takes more patience, if you don't normalise something foe your brain it's going to take longer to learn. So Mike was not only cramming his time together more, he was spending it more efficiently because he forced his brain to work in a different way than Destin did. With Destin he probably only made a tiny bit of progress each day that vanished after his brain rested for the night. For Mike, he made mire progress each day, and with the same amount vanishing each night he should learn it significantly faster than Destin without affecting other pathways, unlike Destin who tried to rewire the old ones. That's exactly what we see in the video.
To be fair, Destin was only doing it a few minutes a day, while using his brain power for lots of other things (I assume work, cooking, cleaning up, family.) Mike could cram all those months of daily, few minute sessions into several hours over a few consecutive days, with his brain problem-solving fairly consistently. It’s cool, but also apples and oranges.
The bike should pedal backwards too to be a true backwards brain bike
that would be too easy. your literally just peddling backwards, your sense of control will still be there, its just a different method of powering the bike.
there is a guy who did that ruclips.net/video/Q-sJxlnaRvU/видео.html
I I he meant both
Okay now that would fuck with someone hard. I can comprehend doing one at a time but both?
Another idea to add to this would be to add the reverse brake to the gear system so if you try to pedal forwards it engages the brakes. That would make it really difficult to ride because any accidental forwards pedal would stop the bike making you have to restart.
@@ii8541 you could say the same about the backwards steering. Your still strering right? But its backwards. Its just a different method of steering the bike.
At least the pedal movement wasn’t backwards or else you’d be messed up
I would actually think that would be easier. It's learning how to make a continuous movement, as opposed to learning how to make micro-adjustments.
Wayne Lin people have different opinions I see how it would be easier because of our mindset but honestly it would be more complex because you have too focus on more than one thing at a time, like say riding a bike normally for example do you focus on pedaling or steering? Most people focus on steering while on the backwards bike they still have to focus on steering. If you replace the pedal movement you have more than one thing to focus on which can be harder on your brain.
there was a show called crazy cottage on citv that had backwards pedals and steering if I remember but they were trikes tho as it was for kids
I have risen a bike like that and it took me five minutes
Virginia Alston that’s you but I’d think it’ll be harder with backwards steering. Props to you though

Just as fast as they'd learn to ride a normal bike. If you already know how to ride a normal one it would be really hard to get past your muscle memory and do it backwards. It's easy if you already don't have the muscle memory for riding a normal one.

+Denis Shamray that's actually a very interesting question. I might try it next time.
I've been riding a regular bike for ~20 years and I still can't go more than a few seconds no handed.
Maybe you haven't tried enough, maybe you are not going fast enough, or maybe you have a bike that's slightly off-centered. All of these things can make it really hard to learn unless you really go in for it. But then again, if you don't have a need for it, why waste time and risk of injury to learn it?
A mix of those. I haven't ever had a need or seen much of the benefit to try to learn. I've got a road race bike that is definitely probably not off centered.

This channel inspired me to learn how to ride a bike. Yes I am a guy who learned how to ride a bike when he was 20 years old.
Learn how to wheelie this thing 😂
I think once he's got the wheel up, it'd be just like a regular wheelie since he is no longer using his front wheel to steer, rather his body because the front wheel is not in contact with the ground anymore. But it's still a good challenge :)
Front wheel wheelie with the backwards bike.
@@MrAwwwwYeahhhh he's still using the front wheel to keep balance, so it will be reversed. I think it would still be something to learn separately

This is how us motorcycle people feel when we try to explain counter steering.
Push the left bar forward, the bike leans left. Very counterintuitive. People never understand it. It's only something you understand when you actually ride a motorcycle or a bicycle fast.
People not understanding Counter steering is probably why so many new riders go straight in corners + target fixation
You counter steer a motorbike also riding in walking speed. You always steer a two-wheeler using countersteering. (But for such as this one in the video. With such a motorbike you would ster into a lean and then countersteer to keep that lean ;)
Now take the trucks off your skateboard and put them on backwards and learn to cruise on that!
Bonus challenge: do it switch
is it difficult the trucks backwards?
It goes the opposite way when you lean.
+Lukas Nilsson Yeah, I tried it and it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to ride it
I'm a year late but this is a good idea
I feel like this was just an issue with destin and mike measuring learning how to ride it differently. Destin did it until he had mastered it and was comfortable with it like a normal bike. mike was just like "i can go straight without falling sorta."
Did you not see the end at all? He seems pretty comfortable with it
@@guitubagrips9719 I would say riding in a straight line is not equivalent to mastering the skill. He needs to start doing turns as well. I would say a few more hours and he will get the hang of turning.
FakeButt look at destin ride the bike in his video. He is hardly more proficient than mike is.

I'm happy to hear!
Just wanted you to know that you really inspired me to learn new things! Just last week I finally learned to do a flat ground backflip, something I've been wanting to do for the last 5 years but never got around to doing. Thank you for the inspiration! :)
Damn what a fantastic channel to discover, the man that shows that with effort and commitment, almost anything is possible.
Some people seem to think he had an easier time because he didn't have to turn, but I think actual turns would be easier. Turning is a big deal, so you divert your full attention to it. All you have to do is stop and think that's it's backwards and you can turn just fine. It's most likely all the tiny steering corrections to keep going straight that are harder because you do those almost entirely by reflex, and it's really hard to retrain your reflexes.
If you've ever tied your shoelaces together, then momentarily forgot about it and tried to walk normally and tripped, it's probably a lot like that.
Next time you're out on your bike, rest your hands behind the handlebars so you can only push each side forward, not pull back. Then try and turn the bike. You might be surprised to find your brain thinks a lot more about turning than you realise!
(I.e. you actually make tiny corrections before you start a turn.)
Your channel is the best on RUclips. Just need more content!
I also build one and it took me around 6 days to learn to ride it. Thanks for inspiration Mike! :)
