This album is so total, so coherent and monolithic it should really be be one of the 90's great albums, which are generally greatly lacking. I have rediscovered this material year after year. it's the rough edges that I like. The fact that you hear real human being performing a very well thought out and written album is genuinely novel for a 90's record. Best European total album of the 90's To bad musical taste went down the shitter that very same decade.
I agree. I hated the Britpop scene though it was so ugly and pretentious. I preferred what the Americans were doing. There were only a few UK bands that stood out for me who were on the outside like Salad, The Wildhearts, Ash, Manics, Placebo and the mighty China Drum whom I saw countless times but then just disappeared. Salad are amazing though. Their music still stands out today and I've rebooted them and they're on my playlist every day. I'm so happy they reformed. I have their 4 track gatefold single Drink The Elixir which is a gem and their debut totally rocks. Still to get the follow up Ice Cream and The Salad Way. I love going back in my time machine to better times. Today's world really sucks. The future yearns, right now's the past!
Brilliant! I always loved the song but never saw the video. Marijne is just a gorgeous woman, and salad did some great songs back then! Brings up pleasant memories...
Bliss. I'd been hearing this song in my head from time to time, and couldn't place it, then remembered Salad. I had this as a single. God, how time flies by.
These must have gone under my radar at the time. Only found this 'cos I remember the singer presenting Glastonbury coverage that year and thought she was hot. She makes a great Marianne Faithful in this clip, Decent tune too.
This was an amazing live band, seen them a lot, she 'was' a great friend of me the singer. She is still active in the indie / alternative scene. Salad, was just fun and party time
Ace - love how she gets off the bike and it just stands up on its own. No hoiking it onto the centre stand, no effortless left-foot muscle-memory flick of the side stand (then a quick dragging of the bike backwards slightly, to ensure its all settled). Just get off and let it levitate. 😂
They played The Hug and Pint (I think) about 6 years ago, maybe. Really great. New album is also excellent - in fact they have never put out a bad record.
In case anyone wants to fly their motorbikes down memory lane, there's a SALAD Facebook page now....like it and get to converse with other like minded daring Salad Fans, and the Band...x facebook.com/Salad.90sBand
Two things: 1. Why can't I reply to anyone's comments? Is it Google doing this or what? b.Ice Cream was their best album by far. All Killer No Filler. iii. Why weren't they the most popular group of the '90s?
The soup serves a helpful visual conduit to take Marijne into the technicolour woods. I liked that and it reminded me of the Go! Team who seemed to have stolen the idea for their Buy nothing day.
@@bwyd The artwork is an acquired taste. I don't really get why someone would love the first album but hate the second one, though. They're different but not that different.
Yeah, Robert Johnson is a really bad person to nod too. Seriously, the lyrics are good. What more do you want? They make me wonder what the protagonist of the song is thinking or feeling or doing, which already puts them above 80% of lyricists who restrict themselves to "I like this/I hate that/My girlfriend or boyfriend dumped me"

8 years later, your comment is still very accurate! :-)

available on spotify ?
It is an amazing album. Just completely it's own thing of the time. All of their albums are great, actually.

Still listening to this track today! Was my jam in high school some eons ago
Inspired sentiment, song and video. One of the very last pop/rock bands.
saw this band live twice after i met the lead singer at readin 98 they were awesome,so was she!!
These must have gone under my radar at the time. Only found this 'cos I remember the singer presenting Glastonbury coverage that year and thought she was hot. She makes a great Marianne Faithful in this clip, Decent tune too.
I totally dug Marijne back in the old MTV Europe days. She made it all worth watching!!
Saw them live in Manchester.... They Rocked....
Diminished colthes is truly fab.
Thanks for taking me back too!
Still sounds fantastic.Thank you for posting.
this album had gthe best the songs to start an album ever, this, granite statue and drink the elixir....
Haven't heard this for years.
Thanks for uploading
great band.

Salad, was just fun and party time
Would make a good funeral song for a biker. Especially one that liked slicing lemons in two.
This is the song that got me into the band.
I loved when Match of the Day used Drink the Elixir - a great group i wish were still knocking out these wonderful songs
I think that's where I first heard them too.
Still a great tune!!!

Saw them at King Tuts Wah Wah hut backnin the day, great live band...

bring memories
I love salad. Drink me- album it's nostalgic for me
........LOVE !!!!!
This is a good song about letting go...hard to do but it makes it easier in the future.
I vaugly remember this
If this track was filmed near a lake I seen u guys, I remember a group named salad back in the day shooting
I saw them at the Colchester arts centre the year before I think :)
Marijne Van der Vlugt - gorgeous chick, beautiful voice, but damn, she needs me to teach her how to ride a bike!!!😂😂🏍
Filmed at Frensham Ponds I believe
Reminds me a little of Dolly Mixture.
Lucky man.
I'm happier with the state its in now. Britpop had so many throwaway bands that all seemed to merge into one.
nostalgia kick
Apparently there are some guys in this band as well.
Listen to the lyrics, she also talks about flying her motorbike to heaven. It's art. :-)
Near Surrey btw
Very sad this great track was ever tarnished with the Britpop label :-(
@silverchainic too late - Brett has been unleashed and he is still fabulous. Suede may have unwittingly started britpop but they were never britpop.
clearly
Cool! :)
Blar de blarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
She didn't put the side stand down before pretending to get off it.

1. Why can't I reply to anyone's comments? Is it Google doing this or what?
b.Ice Cream was their best album by far. All Killer No Filler.
iii. Why weren't they the most popular group of the '90s?
1. It's people's settings.
Ice Cream is great. If you can get hold of a copy of the "Lost Recordings" for the 3rd album, it's also really great.
Norton sounded a bit ??
sinterklaas, wie kent hem niet ; p
I can't believe a biker would eat tomato soup.

One does not "drive a motorbike", one "rides a motorcycle".
If you're Dutch, you drive a bike!
Around 3:14 it almost sounds like The Pixies!
Gran cancion y gran album...por que mierd* no triunfo en el britpop?
Doctor, my friend has a problem lol
to be fair, i don't think she's really going to heaven on it either ;)
google it or jango it
@bigmumf Dweeeeboid. ;-)
smells like the pixies
actually this sounds more like the pixies
Cheers mostmusicisbad, Failed journalist perhaps,! NME perhaps!, or a very lonely sad, sad, sad , sad, jimey Saville clone.
I think her Isolastics need adjusting.
The whole album ("Drink me") was irresistible. Too bad the sophomore was such real crap.
What are you on about? Ice Cream is really good. Could you listen to it again, please.
@@rossh7186 Too late. Once bought when released then immediately got rid of.Even picture sleeve sucks.

catchy song but your lyricist is pants.
