If you'd like to grab a live CD ISO with theShell already installed, you can get the official theShell Distribution (theShell OS) here: sourceforge.net/projects/theo...
WARNING: The installer doesn't seem to work yet. You could try it if you really want, but I strongly recommend that you do it on a virtual machine because you will probably lose data if you don't. :)

Hey Victor, I might be late but can I download his on a Windows 10 PC (old one and I don't need it)
Hi victor, what are the minimum system requirements for the shell?
Amazing operating system, Victor!
Its amazing! Pls, continue your great work! The only solution for KDE programs and a lightweight desktop =)
theShell looks really nice! Victor, have you ever been interested in making your own Linux distribution?
Thanks! I'm in the process of making theShell OS now, as a matter of fact! I'm putting a preview version up at this moment, but the installer doesn't work so you won't be able to install it. :)

@Victor Tran, is downloading an iso and booting off of it the only way to get theShell installed?

please help victor, I am trying to install it in VMWare however I don't know which version of OS to select. I assume it is ubuntu linux but it must be wrong as every time i try to boot, i get "failed to load ldlinux.c32" . How do i set it up in vmware?
You probably have a corrupt ISO. Try redownloading it. :)
This is like, the best linux distro ever made!
hello there, i am using your OS right now, but i have a problem, i installed the OS on my PC, but it wont open the apps i installed, i go to the gateway and find "install theshell" even if i already have done that! could you help me? oh, and one last thing, TheWave does not recognize my voice
Try performing a system update with sudo pacman -Syu in the terminal. :)
theWave is now discontinued unfortunately, and will be removed when you update your system. :)
Congratulations on reaching 100 subscribers!
Thanks. I've already thought about the video I'm going to put out for this :)
Hey! Can I put this video on Google ads??
I LOVE 60FPS ANIMATION VIDEOS THEY ARE SO GUUUD
Thanks :)
@Victor Tran how do I get to bios?:)
Umm what brand is your computer and what is it a laptop/ultrabook or a big PC
Sounds great, but can you manafacture a x32 version? My VM doesn't support X64 files.
Unfortunately I don't intend to support 32-bit computers any time soon. It'll require quite a large rewrite. Sorry about that. :)
Can he just enable VTX?
When I tried installing on Ubuntu it said it couldn't find the package
It's not in the official Ubuntu repositories. You can try a beta quality version *if you have Ubuntu 18.04* by following the instructions at vicr123.com/theshell/download.html :)
TheShell is not starting up on my virtualbox vm pls help me 😭
I'm going to need a little more information to help you
i wonder if someone will use thewave for emergencies incase they got their laptop and not have phone. 🤔
Good Work Victor Tran!
is this based on kde plasma 5? or just using kwin?
Just KWin :)
Okay I'm definitely downloading this.

A fan from New Zealand 🇳🇿😄
Yes it should work
VictorTran, What did you use to make this?
This is such a good OS!
Hi Victor Tran! A really recent subscriber here :)
Hi :)
Can you create a mobile os
Hello Victor Tran. I downloaded the live CD ISO file but when i boot it up on VirtualBox, it only says to boot from an existing os, run a RAM test, run the HDT, power off, and reboot. I have no idea how to start up TheShell or install TheShell. Thanks for reading. Hope i get a solution. Thx.
Your computer doesn't have VT-x enabled and so will not be able to virtualize a 64 bit computer. However, theShell OS is 64 bit only and so requires VT-x to be enabled. To enable VT-x you'll have to dig around in your BIOS settings :)
Victor Tran ok! thanks. I'm running it in virtual box so it's probably around in settings. Thanks again!
ok. i can't find the option to enable VT-x in VirtualBox. Do you have any idea where it is or if it is just worded differently in virtualbox.
TeddyBearOne You need to enable it in yor BIOS, not VirtualBox :)
Victor Tran How do I do that? Do I have to install it on a physical machine?
Wow, great video! theShell looks like a great program, and the quality of the video sold it even more for me ;) Was this all done with PowerPoint? If so, well done! I had trouble at first with even adding a second animation to the same shape... :)
Btw I sorted out my lighting issue, I just turned up the ISO and EV of the camera and voila! Perfect lighting and colouring. :)
Thanks! theShell is my desktop environment. :)
Yep. Pretty all of this was done with PowerPoint. The only thing that wasn't was that I put the music in afterwards after I knew the length of the video so that the music would end properly rather than just fading out :)
My favourite animations in this video are the cursors running in from all the sides, the blue rectangle expanding to the whole screen and the bit at the end where theShell moves to the middle of the slide :)
Oh good. The ISO is an amazing thing, especially if you can set it manually ;)
Yeah, I really liked that part too, it looks so professional (not something that I would've thought could be done on PowerPoint)
I didn't even know that camera had all those settings (it's a small point and shoot) as I've only ever used those on a proper DSLR camera when taking photos ;)
ItsDeckyah Thanks. :)
Those cursors might come back in my animation tutorial series when I do motion paths :)
By the double-u, what did you think of the word "cursors" moving up to reveal another cursor? That was quite hard and involved more than one element of text ;)
I wish there was a windows version that you could download and it would make theShell enviroment as the default
looks awesome!
I'm playing around with this TheShell OS in a VM. So far I'm starting to like this. You need a forum and a email address to interact with you and any other TheShell OS users on your website. You might want to submit this to distrowatch.com. I got a few question. I'm sure I can figure them out myself. I see the Display Manager is sddm. I just wondering how to change the time to 12hr format instead the 24hr format that is showing on my system. Didn't see nothing in the .config files. So I guessing my system is controlling this. And this bar your using. I like to add some applications to it. Where is this bar file located at? Thanks.
Hey, thanks for using theShell OS :)
In the latest version of theShell, there is an option in system settings (accessed by clicking on the clock and then system settings) to change the clock to 12 hour format.
At the moment there is no way to dock an app to the bar, however it is possible to dock an app to the Gateway by right clicking it and clicking Dock. :)
I found the settings in clock. It did change the 12 hour format clock in the bar. Still the clock in the system settings and on the Display Manager is still showing the 24 hour format.
I would think the bar has it own coding page. Can't the Qt coding be change to add a applications to it? Just point me in the right direction. I either figure it out or mess it up. The Clock in sddm, I'll figure that out as well, sometime down the road.
Have you been thinking about submitting your Linux distro to distrowatch.com?
I coded the bar but have not yet coded the functionality to pin an app to it. :)
I haven't considered submitting this to distrowatch yet. Maybe when it gets more mature :P
It's almost there. Yourself say it's out of beta stage. I would like to see a message board on TheShell OS website. So as you grow, TheShell OS user can grow with you. Here is my screenshot of TheShell OS I have in my VM. If RUclips let's me post it here. i.imgur.com/PFfXXxQ.jpg
I can't install this on my only laptop with no OS, the Inspiron Mini.
Dray Crouse It might be because your laptop is a 32bit laptop.
Nice Operating System. And also, is there a going to be a Live version so I can run it directly on my main computer instead of on a vm?
If you mean a live CD, the installation ISO is a live CD. :)
Victor Tran Ok, so I can just burn it to a CD and use it. Cool. And, thanks for the fast reply.
Seth Listing Yep. However no settings will be persisted when you power off. :)
Is this still being worked on? If so, then great! I’ve always like the UI of theShell.
Development has stagnated for now but I'm working on a new one called theDesk.
@@vicr123 Thanks for the reply, I’ll definitely try that out in a VM!
Is it KDE based?
How in the world?!?! Did you made this OS?!?!?!
This beats windows 8 ANYDAY!
Reso Rev3rse agreed lol
Victor Tran, is theShell only for OSFirstTimer or have you released it publically
just because i wanna try it
It’s available on GitHub, and if you’re on Arch Linux, it’s available as a package on the AUR. :)
I'm on windows 10 :)
I thought i was gonna get my PC hacked
theshell, a de that that has a fat bar
TheShell
All you needed now much simpler.
Add a touch screen to the shell
it looks like android is it a linux miggy moboby i don lnow wut its called
How do install this on Arch Linux?
Install "theshell" from the AUR. :)
I've tried 'pacman -S theshell' but it can't find it. I also tried building it, but when I run 'qmake' I get "Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: thelib"
If you're using Arch, the easiest way to install it is to use the AUR. If you use an AUR helper it'll pull in all the dependencies for you, including the the-libs issue you were having before. :)
Do you have an AUR helper to recommend? makepkg won't work because of me being root, but it won't work with a nobody account either for some reason.
You shouldnt be using the root account for general use. Use the useradd command (passing it the -m flag) to add a new user and set your group to wheel. Then install sudo and use visudo to allow anyone from wheel to execute any command. Finally use passwd to set a password on the new user and then log in as that user. :)
Very inspiring
Just amazing. Just saw Osfirsttimer video then this lol
the shell crashes when i try to use it.
help?
Uhh... Is NetworkManager running? :)
dont look like it. ive checked
NetworkManager needs to be running for theShell to work. :)
I ran it. it went to the graphical interface to boot. but my problem was
when trying to actually go into theShell not the boot loader it
crashes.
DerpyXbox800 Wait, are we talking about theShell OS or theShell? :)
Is this a operating system
Im gonna install this!
Victor Tran: Can you install this on the hard drive of a laptop, like permanently?
Yes you can. It's a graphical interface on top of Arch Linux :)
@@vicr123 On top of Arch Linux. Does that mean I have to be running Arch Linux for this to work? Would Manjaro be good enough? What about BlackLab Linux Lxde, which is based on Debian, Ubuntu (LTS)?
@@cimbakahn Manjaro should work. If you know how to build from source, it should work on any distro. Arch based distros are easier because I've already put it on the AUR :)
@@vicr123 Thank you very much for your help! I am going to try to find the newest Manjaro Lxde now.
@@vicr123 I and other people have done that for sure (I've done it on their KDE Plasma official edition myself), and I'd love to see it as it's own community edition.

Won't install. It just resets the installation after it's complete.
It has installed properly, just experiencing a bug where the little "install theShell OS" panel isn't disappearing. To get rid of it, run
sudo rm /etc/scallop-live
inside a terminal :)
Fix this please
theShell OS? Wasnt it theOS?
Yeah, I decided to rebrand it as theShell OS. Makes advertising easier because it really is just an OS with all my software on it. :)
Wait, so you're developing an desktop enviroment? Will you try and getting it into some other "software centers" other than AUR (I don't wanna setup arch just to play around with it.), well I guess I can build it, but meh. Also "for all cursors" was amazing :)
Also, I want to translate this desktop enviroment, but I can't find the translations directory :(
At the moment, I can really only see myself packaging it for the AUR (mainly because that's the system I use and I'm not sure how to create a PPA.) Unfortunately the only other way to try it is to build it yourself... which can be annoying. Either way, don't get it yet; I was going to release theShell 6.0 today but ran into some issues so I had to push it back one day... :)
Thanks for helping translate theShell! Once I release theShell 6.0 (or you can have a look at the blueprint branch) there will be a translations directory that you can open up. There is an en_US.ts file there that can be opened in Qt Linguist, and you can translate as many of the phrases as possible. Once you've done that, send me a pull request or something so I can take a look. Thanks! :D
Thanks! I really liked that cursors bit too. :D
The localisations stuff were only added in theShell 6.0 which I was supposed to release today... But I ran into a few issues so I had to push it back to tomorrow. However the Blueprint branch is pretty much theShell 6.0 and you can find the translations directory in there. :)
EDIT: Or maybe not... For some reason there's only the Vietnamese translation there... I'll have to fix that up tomorrow. Sorry... :(
I understand you, programminmg even on a forgiving language as GML is hard, so I understand:)
Also before I translate, can I get QT linguist on windows or is it a linux thing?
I need to get theShell up and running BEFORE I translate so I can get some context clues.
EDIT I found a ready made Arch VM so I can test it out, but can you help me with installling the AUR?
Vrabb'o'animate Thanks. :)
Basically what happened was I accidentally deleted some files in a dependency of most of my programs (including theShell) called the-libs, so I had to rewrite those files again... FROM SCRATCH. Yes, I was quite frustrated because rewriting files at 11:30 PM is not fun... :(
Up for you
I like this..
Why u name EVRYTING with the word "the"?
Because it's a trademark, just like Apple has one.
Apple's trademark is "i", for example iMac.
It was Victor Tran's idea to add a trademark to his OS, so he added "the" as the trademark

Command prompt is a mix of DOS and Unix.
Different modes:
•Normal mode
A normal interface
•Kid mode
A more kid - friendly environment on the computer, with easier words like Get instead of Install or Download.
•Tablet mode
Keyboard and mousiarum disconnected, touchscreen and pop - up keyboard replace the two.
•Assist mode
Four assists, each with a different role, e.g. Definition, QuickSearch
•Tile mode
Has a Windows 8 - like Interface
You can port it into a USB into a different Monitor / Device - a hard drive for that device will pop up on the screen depending on the screen type.
Insert the TechPhase disk into the hard drive an you're good to go!
Built in screensaver which consists of pixels floating about.
Built - in Parental controls, consisting of:
•Time limits - limit your child's time on the screen
•Censorship - prevent your child from seeing.. you know.
•Permission to install - prevent your child from installing without permission.
•No settings change - block your child / teen to change any settings e.g. turning 12< to 18>.
You can connect several TechPhases to form a TechPhamily. They can share files, create messages, and pretty much do anything that a family could do!
The messages will have a certain string for example "Dinner time!" or "Time to look after (insert a name here)!"
It will always have the heading _"A person from your family has sent you this message, because they (insert a reason here)" to prevent confusion to young teens and under.
The TechPhase can only connect with other TechPhases within the spherical range of 75²m
The standard language is Indonesian English
This is because I'm Indonesian, but English is my native language.
To make it run on a certain, successful OS, like Windows or iMac X, you need to install TechPhase Box. Click it, then it will probably take 25 seconds to replace the former OS.

The Victor tran the bar the shell
Hi victor, I tried your operating system out in a virtual machine today. Initially, I was pretty confused and it felt like windows 8 all over again, but then I got the hang of it and now I really like the look of it. I'll try it on real hardware today to see how theOS is as a whole with drivers and what not. I have a few things that bothered me about theShell:
- The menu was kind of a jumbled mess and I wish things were either categorized or ordered in alphabetic order or something like that
- The notification center was a little weird and convoluted
- The KDE tweaking center felt extremely empty compared to the original KDE desktop
- I couldn't boot from my VM's hard drive after installing.
And for some things I like about it
- I like how you built theOS on arch linux. I feel like there aren't enough arch-based distros out there.
- The installer was easy to use
Overall, nice distro! I'm interested to see what you do with it in the future! Maybe you can port it to ppc and have druaga1 install it on a mac :)
Oh I just saw that you put in the description that the installer wasn't working, so that's probably why. Oh well, good luck with the project anyway!
Thanks for the comments about theShell. I intend to detach from KDE as much as possible, so that tweaking center shouldn't be present in future releases. :)
I'll keep all these points in mind. Thanks :D
That's good. Althought I would strongly recommend sticking with KWin, as it does everything normal window managers can do as well as all the features of compiz like the Desktop cube and fancy animations and what not.
KoaladileProductoz The only problem with that is that it's slightly buggy on my computer, and I can't integrate it very well with theShell. :)
Victor Tran oh ok. May i ask how difficult it is to get a desktop environment like theShell set up? Did you use any tools or guides?
32 bit os Download
Unfortunately Arch doesn't offer a 32-bit version any more so I can't offer a 32-bit version of theShell OS. What you can try however is compiling theShell on a 32-bit distribution of your choice. :)
