They always had a stand out sound. And they should have been bigger than they were. To be honest I like their early rock/punk sound. Belligerent and with attitude. They’re sound mellowed for the Americans, and that’s where they had the success..

I really don’t know how Joe can say they were always a pop rock band. There is nothing pop about On Through The Night, High n Dry or Pyromania. Those were clearly hard rock albums that had zero pop elements to them. I think he is being disingenuous when he says that.

Joe doesn't like being lumped into the Heavy Metal category because he feels that Leppard has a more pop/rock sound rather than metal. I would say they are more rock than pop for sure.

I have to disagree because every single Def Leppard song is catchy isn't it? Every song was written in a pop structure. Hello America and bringin on the heartbreak are pop songs with guitars. And classic rock fans always trash modern pop because because it's teeny bopper crap or whatever outdated term they use. I hate to break it to you but Judas priest was pretty teeny bopper in 82 with you got another thing comin. Just because it has a guitar in it doesn't make it any less Poppy. If it's catchy it's Pop. Classic rock bands are some big hypocrites.

@@no_stick_drummer2735 To say that every Def Leppard song is catchy is total bs. In the later years they wrote many crapy songs. Sparkle Lounge is total garbage. The early songs like Hello America and Bringing on the Heartbreak were most definitely not pop, the were hard rock.

@@seanmather3315 they've always been a pop rock band, end of story, THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A POP ROCK BAND, such an abomination that their guitars got slightly less heavy, hysteria and high and dry aren't even that different to begin with, I hear guitars on both albums, oh but that's right to a metal elitist the guitars aren't heavy enough too much estrogen and not enough testosterone and very few songs about blowjobs
Am I missing anything? I just can't figure out why everyone is so hung up on wanting Def Leppard to sound like everybody else? Is rock music that one dimensional?

@@no_stick_drummer2735 No your wrong, they have always been a rock band. In the later years I would agree they became pop rock, in the early years no fuckin way in hell were they a pop band. Was High n Dry pop? Your a total moron when you make idiotic claims that High N Dry and Hysteria are not that different, that is such bs, they couldn’t be more apart. Hysteria is radio friendly pop rock, High N Dry is clearly heavy/hard rock or British Invasion metal. You clearly don’t understand what pop is. End of story ignoramus...
