    THIS is the kinds of videos I want more of. Not only are you offering your likes and dislikes, but you are making (in my opinion) valid points that people should know. I'll always be referencing this I think when I go looking for more foundations.

      Side note: "You can argue with me all you want. I don't care, because you are going to be arguing with yourself" causes me to laugh so hard I had to rewind to hear what you said after that. (Can I put this on a shirt for my job? Because I am going to do that.)

    I think I told you this before but your first MAC foundation guide saved my life when I first started working at MAC! They didn't give any sort of training so I had to go online to learn about the products, and I used your guide as reference. Thankfully I actually have similar opinions to yours when it comes to their foundations! I also don't like studio sculpt at all, I hate the texture, but I don't think MAC discontinues it because for some reason it has a cult following. It's strangely a very popular foundation, a lot of people repurchase it and have it as their holy grail, at least it's what my ex colleagues tell me!
    I'm not familiar with all of their new foundations. but I've tried a couple. I didn't like the water weight foundation, I'm more of a dry skin type and still it just feels greasy on my skin. I like the look of it, but it's just so uncomfortable. Strangely the pro longwear nourishing allthough it is indeed long lasting makes my skin produce copious amounts of oil throughout the day, I think my dehydrated skin doesn't deal well with anything that's made to be long lasting. It just starts freaking out and producing oil like crazy! Mineralize I think is super glittery to be honest, it has so much shimmer in it.

    • @dapperfish
      @dapperfish 6 лет назад +2

      My favourites are also studio fix fluid and face & body. I do like MAC full coverage as well, thinned out it just looks beautiful! I like classic wax-based cream foundations. Do I want to try the next to nothing powder? I've been really interested in it since it came out. I was thinking about getting a darker colour to use as bronzer.

    • @dapperfish
      @dapperfish 6 лет назад +3

      Sorry I'm commenting as I watch the video XD I really liked the fortified skin enhancers, I had them in my pro kit and everything. I hated the CC creams! The BB cream I haven't tried but all my friends at MAC hate it! I remember I liked the Studio Tech, I never noticed it go powdery to be honest, I didn't even realise that's what it was supposed to do. It was fine. I really liked it on combo to oily dark to deep skintones.

      dapperfish I I love studio sculpt. I'm one of the cult followers. 😂 it sued to be my go to foundation, it photograph beautifully.. But now im getting older and my skin getting dryer, i find it too heavy and drying.. Now adays my go to is the one with dropper.. Whatever the name is😅.. What do you think about the mineralize foundation?

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +2

      I like all the comments! Thank you for sharing all of this! It was a little bit of a “throwback” to talk about all these haha! It was fun.

      I watched that first MAC foundations video when I started working at MAC too 😂
      I was soooo lost back then, especially because I didn’t own a lot of MAC stuff at the time and most foundations looks really crappy on me for some reason... which is very sad when you are a makeup artist :p
      Having played with them a lot now, I do really like the studio tech for dark skin and I really wished that I could try it on my very difficult skin, but unfortunately, it doesn’t come in my shade (I’m too pale) and I like Studio Sculpt a lot too, I think it gives a really nice (quite full) coverage and finish and I use it on set a lot when I want something really flawless and perfect, and that one even looks good on me !
      BUT....... it breaks me out 😭
      I think I’m cursed... :p

    Dear Dustin, I discovered your channel when I was searching for "depotting foundation" last year, I found your MAC foundation palette. Then I watched more and more because it's addictive haha I even singing your "chicken at MAC" and "happy fucking v-day". Your two smoky eyes' videos are bomb (and I've tried, it's amazing) you along with Lisa Eldridge are the proper source of smoky eye tutorial (you're the bold version when Lisa is the soft version). I also enjoy your reviews especially your MAC series but previously little bit sad because I thought you were in long hiatus. But now I'm excited because you're back. I'm so grateful to find underrated makeup education channel (and person) like you. Have a good day, take care and drive safe

    I used to love your (brand) foundation guides back in the day, and it's awesome to finally see you do an updated one. May I request you do a foundation guide of a cruelty-free brand if you plan on making another? I hope you're doing well. :)

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад

      Thank you! Where do you get your information on what brands are cruelty free and what ones aren't? Do you define cruelty free as vegan as well or just companies who don't test on animals? I find that it's a tricky area with a lot of... opinionated people (see what I did there, how I didn't say aggressive judgemental buttheads? LOL!) Seriously though, I have thought about it before but I don't want to get it wrong, come off like I don't know what I'm talking about or piss viewers off. It's not my area of expertise and there are plenty of RUclipsrs who focus on that so I've just let them be. Side note: Have I ever told the story about making everyone in PR at L'Oreal fall silent when mentioned animal testing after they bought Urban Decay? Not my most delicate moment but I imagine you would probably laugh! LOL!

    • @dossyexe
      @dossyexe 6 лет назад

      I can definitely understand not wanting to touch on the whole cruelty-free debate in fear of offending or coming across these 'opinionated' individuals (aka rude butts).
      I myself only buy within companies (with parent companies) who don't test on animals, but personally I view cruelty free as a spectrum. If I were to get deep into it, in theory it's almost impossible to live 'cruelty-free' as you could argue that many companies source ingredients, packaging, etc from places or in ways that can contribute to environmental damage, unfair work conditions/pay, and the list goes on. But I imagine that's probably not the can of worms you were asking to open in your questions, haha.
      Long story short, it's pretty impossible to be perfect, so don't stress too much, and I appreciate channels who include a cruelty free option, even if it's owned by a testing company or sells in China. In my eyes it opens the conversation and helps direct people in the right direction. My main go-to website is cruelty free kitty. From memory they personally email HEAPS of companies asking for personal statements on the status of their cruelty free...ness, whether they sell in China, whether they are owned by a parent company, are any or all their products vegan, what organisations they are certified by, and so on. That way you can personally determine whether that companies practices align with your ethics, as opposed to just checking the back of a bottle and calling it a day. I think if you're just transparent about the company's stance so your viewers can decide what to do with that information, instead of difinitively stating "X brand is/isn't cruelty free" in your videos, it can save your arse on the whole aggressive butts front.
      Sorry if that all that info is way too intense! I also absolutely love the thought of a bunch of L'Oreal reps dumbfounded at that statement. Someone's gotta ask these questions! Thankyou for the response. :)

      cheesecake This was all wonderful information! Thank you for sharing all of it! I like how you phrased it and I think I could tackle it that way. I also used the same site for my research as well so we are on the same page there! I’ll look into this more and consider it! Thank you! 🤗

    I thought I had tried every method of applying my MAC Face & Body (hands, multiple brushes, beauty blender, apply, buff, repeat, etc...) and it just hadn't been love as of yet. I knew I was missing something. I tried your method yesterday and found the magic of this foundation. I knew I would love it once the mystery was decoded. I generally prefer my makeup to have a no-makeup, natural look to it and this is now perfect; especially for summer in the desert southwest. I finally got enough coverage and kept the appearance of skin that I prefer. Thanks, Dustin!

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +2

      That’s wonderful! It’s so great when you recommend something and someone reports back that it worked and you’re not crazy! Haha! Thank you! Glad it worked well for you! I think it’s much easier to apply that way. Whenever I see people on RUclips say they are using it so they have to work quickly I always want to yell at the screen, “No you don’t! Stop!” Haha

    Your first Mac overview was a life- ( and money-) saver back then.
    In all those years I think I've kinda grown out of Mac tbh. It seems like for years they haven't really come up with anything worthwhile and I've moved on to a lot of better foundations. I still keep F&B (in the fridge where it lasted years beyond its expiration date - I know, disgusting) because it works wonders on my legs or when I know I'm going to sweat a lot.
    Cheers

    • @DustinHunter

      Dustin Hunter as I've matured, I've come to terms with my extremely oily skin and the fact that no amount of foundation and powder will make my face matt. So I try to rock the shine 😁
      My holy grail is the very cheap Catrice HD foundation. Some days I like UD Naked Skin but after 8 hrs it separates. And when I have little to cover up I use the Bare Minerals Original

      That's so sweet. Thank you. So every time someone posts a comment about how they miss me, I always ask them where I have been because I still have content all over the place. Nobody EVER answers. Don't let me down! Be different than everyone else! Do you just watch the makeup videos and miss the others or does RUclips not notify you when I upload or am I just that addictive that you miss me even when I upload regularly? I'm being a smart ass but I'm also serious. I'd love to know! This is helpful information for me! :)

    • @brnprettiegrl88
      @brnprettiegrl88 6 лет назад

      Dustin Hunter hahaha. I get it. so it’s a little bit of both. I think I when I started watching you it was back in 2010-2011. I wanted to know everything makeup. And you kept popping up. I swear every time you made a Mac video I went out and tested and tried everything. And I did notice that you started uploading more this year. And I gotta say I just miss the old RUclips when people just wanted to help others. But my notifications are on and I can’t wait for more!!!!

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад

      brnprettiegrl88 Haha Thank you! Yes the atmosphere has changed a lot over the years. It’s less about learning and sharing information for a lot of people - I think that content is still there somewhat but RUclips doesn’t promote it as heavily as stuff that’s more over the top - a lot of folks have left, it’s more difficult these days to find your voice on here. I take breaks when I want to and have just started uploaded when I want about whatever I want and only doing it if I enjoy it. Much better this way! Thank you!

    Dustin, I LOVED your review of Next to Nothing fluid, so funny. I like it, though. I apply it with a brush; pea sized beads all around my face, brush it down with a not too dense brush very quickly. If I try to massage it (sorry, don’t know what word to use, lol) too much it pills, so I brush it down the least I can and get a good glow to my dry skin.
    I have to agree that it doesn’t add coverage, and I tried layering it once but it pilled and I never tried it again because I have to rush to get ready for work, but I’m going to try again soon.
    Didn’t try the powder yet because the shops near me didn’t have my shade, but I’m eyeing it bc the fluid is dark-ish for me and I heard the powder is a bit lighter so it could balance the color a bit. Hope I can find it while it’s on sale, bc here it’s very expensive.
    I love your channel, btw, I just tend not to comment because I don’t want to bother. :)

      Marlene N. Thank you very much for sharing that tip! Its always helpful! I’m glad you like the foundation 🤗 The powder is quite nice and I like it myself on my dry skin! It can run light though... right now I’m wearing a Medium Plus (normally I would be Light). I don’t tan so I don’t know if it’s just sheer enough or what but it seems to be a fine match for my fair skin. Never a bother to read a comment! Comment away! Please 🤗😘✨ Thank you!!

    I love how well you know your stuff! I have been afraid of mac foundation after a mortifying experience I had at a counter in Ireland. A lady there tried some foundations on me to see what would work. It showed up and seemingly *created* dryness where there wasn't! It was so awful looking, she sort of frowned and looked perplexed and looked at me like there was something wrong with me that it looked so bad on me! lol

    • @loopyfrog

      I don't often see dryness without makeup, it's just so many products seem to highlight it - must be my weird rosacea skin.

      Haha! That’s terrible! I don’t see dry patches on my skin usually unless I apply foundation - that will highlight the dryness. A good chemical (AHA) exfoliating will usually kick that in the butt for me!

    Dustin remind me is NW=Not Warm and NC=Not Cool? AND where in that is that middle of the road Neutral skin... the kind that you can go either way. I ask because I have a range throughout the products and I’ve always felt I could go either direction ... but I’ve yet to get a clear answer on that MAC range. THANK YOU in advance!!! 💞

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +1

      xXxXxCGPBxXxXx Okay this is an odd one, although how you’ve deciphered NW and NC makes more sense, it’s actually NW (neutral warm) and NC (neutral cool). MAC just reverses what cool and warm mean for most cosmetics so... NW is for cool/pink undertones and NC is for warm/yellow undertones.
      From my recollection, Ben Nye does this too. I have heard that they take their influence more from the fine art word, but if you ask me I would call blue/green colors cool and red/yellow/orange colors warm. At any rate, most cosmetics reverse MACs version of cool and warm so it can be confusing.
      As far as neutral tones go, you may be able to wear either. I often just mix NC and NW colors together.

I live in Australia & as I've gotten into my 40's my skin just isn't handling the humidity. I've heard Face & Body is sweat resistant & a MUA's choice for shoots in hot, sweaty conditions. Just wondering if you agree &/or know of any other options i may have? I don't need high coverage, around medium is great. I think Face & Body is worth a try honestly. Its got a bit of a learning curve cause it’s kind of strange the way it dries down but it’s a good foundation and if you DON’T like it then you can rule out a lot of face and body style foundations that are similar. You never know until you try!

    Loved this video. I am in my 60s and love MAC Face & Body as it does not sit in my lines. But, what is the best primer to use underneath? and If I want a bit more coverage, what would you suggest I mix into it please? Kind Regards from Midlands UK.

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +2

      Sue's Views Do you think you need a primer? If your foundation is wearing well and it’s not settling into fine lines then don’t even bother! 🤗 For some, it’s a necessary step but it’s supposed to make your foundation wear and look better - if you don’t have problems, don’t worry about it! I’ll tell you what I use though just in case it’s helpful 😊 I use any silicone rich moisturizer. That’s typically my “primer” because most primers are silicone gels or creams, a silicone heavy moisturizer will do the same job AND it’s also your moisturizer.
      For extra coverage you can try just laying Face & Body but if you need more than that, I like Studio Fix Fluid (because it’s so silicone heavy). It covers a lot and mixes well with other foundations. Skin Base by Illamasqua is also a good one for mixing with other foundations. Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Max Cover is outstanding for coverage but it’s sort of dry and a little funky so I don’t think mixes in as well. I hope all this helps! Thank you! 🤗

    Hi, I love to use the Face and Body Foundation during summer. Sadly I can't really wear it in spring or autumn because N1 is pretty much the tannest my skin gets. I thought about getting the white one to lighten the N1 a little bit but I was wondering whether it mixes well with other liquid foundations as well? (I need something with a little more coverage during winter since my skin gets so pale that all the fine veins are visible which makes the rest of my makeup look kinda weird.)

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +1

      Sunny _1096 I mentioned this foundation in a recent video: Illamasqua Skin Base in shade number 2. It’s a pale, pale pink that has a good amount of coverage and it’s my go-to for lightening foundations.
      Face and Body mixes beautifully with other foundations, I haven’t found one is doesn’t work with yet. I use it to thin out foundations that are too thick or to alter the colors like you’re saying. Personally I used to be as light as you are and in the winter months Face and Body in white was my standard foundation. I would get so many compliments on my healthy looking, porcelain skin when I wore it! It’s beautiful if you can pull it off BUT if you want more coverage, that Illamasqua one is excellent!

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +2

      Thank you! Just like I was saying - paddle brush or hands - but that is MY preferred method, you could do what you like. Try not thinking of it as an airbrush foundation but instead just a foundation. That’s all it is. It just happens to be thin enough to go through the mechanism. All makeup is just some kind of dry powder, cream or liquid with color that’s safe to apply to your skin. That’s all I usually look at it as. Think of it that way and use your imagination 🤗 I can do a whole face with pressed powder and one tube of lipstick. Haha! I know because I’ve done it. The other day I was in the car and I noticed I was a bit matte faced, I used a saline nasal spray to mist my skin and it worked so well it’s what I use now haha!

    Excellent video. I have the Face and Body and love the finish, but struggled to get it on my face. I will try putting it in my palms. I have combo skin and do need to powder. What MAC or any brand powder would you recommend that will help with shine but look natural. Too heavy powders look cakey. I'm shade N9.

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +1

      On myself I have a variety of “transparent” setting powders that are nice but even on me I don’t think they are always very transparent. I’d love to steer you away from MAC so I don’t sound like an advertisement for them haha! But my favorite pressed powder for years has been Blot Powder from MAC. It’s nearly transparent but actually comes in skin shades so it’s not that typical stark white you find many “transparent” powders in. I like it because it’s very lightweight and doesn’t add anything to the skin, just fills the shine. It’s a great one for just touching up during the day because of that. The Ben Nye loose powders are nice too - smooth texture - tons of color options - but they are loose and if you’re like me you just knock loose powders over all the time LOL! They’re also hard to travel with. I hope that helps! I’d love to know how you get on applying Face & Body like that! Let me know if you can!

I’ve ventured back to my first love MAC recently and loving it. I got the new Fix Plus matte yesterday, thinking that might help to keep the shine down I my t zone, haven’t tried it yet, so the verdict is still out. Thanks Again!

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +1

      MyCrownstar You’re welcome! I have heard mixed reviews (but aren’t all reviews mixed really?) for that spray. I haven’t tried it myself either. I don’t like to spray stuff like that right on my face, I usually mist it onto a large powder brush and tap it into the skin. I get a lot more control that way. Good luck with it! Have you ever tried using oils or oil-based moisturizers on your skin? I know it might sound crazy if you have oily skin but sometimes it really can help. If you have oily skin you can’t STOP it from being oily, but I have seen firsthand that if you give oily skin an oil-based moisturizer you can sometimes “trick it” into thinking it doesn’t need to make more and actually decrease the amount of oil you’re producing. I’m sure there is science behind it... I think it’s all magic. Hehehe! Good luck!!!

    • @MyCrownstar

      Well, I'm writing you again to say THANK YOU!. The Good News...MAC Blotting powder is perfect! I used it to set my face this morning, after using F&B the way you outlined. just touched up, with no cakey look, can't really tell that I have powder on and the color compliments my skin tone. I probably didn't even need to touch up, but wanted to see how it would behave mid-day. I'm in FL, so believe me, if it can hold up to this heat, it can pretty much hold up to anything. I can't believe I'm been searching all my life for the perfect combo and think I finally found it! Honestly, I didn't think the powder would work to set my makeup rather to blot later in the day, but I said what the heck, if it don't work, I will look no worse than yesterday...Now the Bad News...I used the Fix Plus Matte Monday and changed no other products/routine. I don't know what's in it but my face got SHINY, I mean I couldn't get the shine to go down. It soaked up my make up and gave me a blotchy, SHINY mess. I watched the reviews where others love it, but no way. I packed it up yesterday morning, planning on visiting the MAC counter on my home from work to return it....and lo and behold I get an email that MAC is having a 20% sale - - so I got the blotting powder and a few other essentials at a discount!. Interesting of all the foundations and powders that I have, (Le Mer powder, Bobbi Brown, Lancôme, Fenty, NARS, Milk, etc., this is the combo that I like the best)! YOU THE MAC MAN :) Thanks again!

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  6 лет назад +4

      I generally avoid all social media as much as possible. Is Twitter used for anything anymore other than a platform for celebrities to say shit they shouldn’t? LOL!
      Whether it’s someone like Roseanne on one side or someone like Debra Messing on another... none of it seems designed to facilitate a useful conversation about anything at all. I see a passive aggressive, mutated form of confrontation at best.
      I mean, ranting to your followers about something you KNOW they are going to agree with you on seems about as useful as screaming into a vacuum... and lashing out at people who disagree with you (because everyone is just supposed to think the same - when was THAT a thing?!) just makes things worse. Nobody likes to be talked down to, scolded publicly or told how shitty of a person they are and it DOESN’T change their minds to do so, it embarrassed them and makes them lash out even more. Bullying the bullies fixes nothing.
      ...
      In general I think we can blame everything wrong with society on Facebook. I have nothing to back up that statement, but I’m going to go with it anyway LOL!!!
      In all honesty and sincerity, I think the bulk of us are very middle-of-the-road, fairly decent people. We are kind to each other. We respect one another. We try our best to be good. We are aware of our limitations and accepting of our darkness. We embrace the vulnerability in each other even though we are afraid to share our own. We are open to change if it helps the people we care about and we care about pretty much everyone. The bulk of us are quiet, we don’t make the headlines, Huffington Post finds us boring.
      I believe we are majority though - those of us who don’t care what the rest are doing as long as they aren’t hurting one another. No matter what you read online or see on TV, I believe the bulk of us love one another.

    Studio fix fluid is silicone based? Or water based?

    I watched your prev video of this. I used face n body, i love it really blur my pores. What is the best option for more coverage? Studio fix powder or liquid? Iam a guy And I want to still look natural but more coverage

      CoCo Jam I would say between those two, Studio Fix Powder. Do you set Face and Body with powder when you wear it? If you do then Studio Fix Powder should offer more coverage without looking TOO different. If not I’d recommend using a cream blush/bronzer or just pressing a little moisturizer back into the skin afterwards so you don’t look so matte. Studio Fix Liquid is awesome but more difficult to make it look untraceable because of its coverage level and finish.

      Dustin Hunter I just use face n body alone and never cause breakout on me. I probably try the powder form, I will just add moisturizer on my regimen. Thank you dustin for the help and more subs to you ;) ♥️

    Thank you for your so thorough review. What is your favorite brush to apply the Next to Nothing Powder/Pressed? Hope it’s not a MAC brush. I’ve been sadly losing my admiration for their brushes lately.

      Any old brush will do really. I’ve used powder brushes, fan brushes, sponges, even fingers in a pinch.

    Does the Next to Nothing powder have the same amount of coverage as the Pro Longwear powder?

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  5 лет назад +1

      C C. The powders? Hmm... I would say that Next to Nothing has more coverage. I don’t think of Pro Longwear as a powder foundation - more of a setting powder - and Next to Nothing actually offers enough coverage to wear it like a powder foundation.

      @@DustinHunter Thank you! Also have you heard about the new Mac Studio Fix Perfecting loose powder? Have you tried it?

      C C. I’ve seen it but I haven’t tried it. I did a video a couple years ago just like this one except all about MAC powders, but I don’t think it’s in that video (I don’t believe it was out at the time).

    If I wear NC47 in the mac prolong wear waterproof would I be the same color in the regular prolong wear?
