Loved the look of these. I think I did a box or 2 of this back then and I didn't hit a mem either. I did more with Topps products back then. It's appropriate you posted this today. For I am thankful for the fun, educational content you share. Happy (US) Thanksgiving
Nice looking set. Nice Timo Pärssinen rookie card. His son Juuso Pärssinen has had a hot start for his NHL career with Preds. 5 points in 6 games this month.
I ripped a lot of the retail packs of vintage. I didn't really appreciate it at the time, but remember it much more fondly this go. Thanks for sharing and happy Thanksgiving! #dryden
That's a very smart request. I might do that more generally not just for Black Friday, but value in the hobby my broadly. Or: what I typically get during seasonal sales, why/how/where.
Fun rip! Love the old school look! I’ve been meaning to ask you before, but do you read up on statistics before the rip or do you know all the draft picks etc? Thanks for the video! #dryden
Great question. Before the break, I obv do a bit of research on CardboardConnection to understand the checklists and odds. Often, they are very confusing and complicated. It's trying because CC, retailer websites, and box odds often contradict each other, prob because odds change after the packaging has already been printed. During vids I improvise and calculate stats in real-time, but most I know more or less from memory or taking a few notes. I also might fact check something I second guess on the fly. Not an exact science, but I pride myself on being reasonably accurate. (When I do err, it's usually a release day product that I try to post early to trend in YT "suggested videos," and make a verbal or subtitle typo due to how quickly I go. The reality is I machine gun so much info that it is impossible not to have an occasional verbal glitch). As for draft picks, I used to be very diligent about taking an interest in draft order and lifetime stats, and would memorize players based on having already been curious enough to look them up. I also am in multiple hockey pools, which is stats heavy. But given how many products there are now and how long some of the rookie checklists are, I put less work into it now. What ppl don't realize is how time-consuming research, accurate subtitles, and editing are relative to how few ppl will read the subtitles. Due to other channels, most kids just fixate on dollar value and chase (even though they overpay in the first place on brutal odds), without being methodical (my core lesson to them). All my time is not well spent, relative to how the algos work, whether I will even be suggested, which is a serious grievance of mine. But that is also the very reason I have a channel, ironically, to push back against solely young, base humour, endorphin rush and gambling content being viral on YT.
@@Fultoncards Thanks for the answers! I sure do appreciate your videos, especially as they are product and not dollar driven! The statistics and odds are a breath of fresh air in the breaking community and that’s why you’re probably my favorite ’breaker’. I haven’t opened a box of anything in ages due to the pandemic/gas/food/inflation etc. so your videos are a great way to get the buzz, if you know what I mean:) All the best! Keep up the good work! #dryden
No worries. It's valid. I'm right-handed. So if you watch, I actually wave the card in my right hand twice to emphasize it's the Russian Rocket in that hand. Everyone knows who Bure is. ...I know breaking looks super easy, but I'm always thinking a million things at once, and deciding what to articulate of all those thoughts. Often my commentary on a card comes a card or two after the card has passed. Normally it's fine. But when it's a 24-pack product, I have to rush too fast through the cards. If something in a break might confuse a viewer, I do some edits on occasion. Just not when it's obvious what I mean. The really funny thing about your comment is when I edited that video I thought someone would make the comment you just made. Sure enough, a month later, your comment appears. (I do have a great eye in editing, so i know when something will throw you guys off.)
@@Fultoncards haha it’s all good I’m just blind great videos though! I enjoy the throwback products! And yes I agree everyone has to know who Bure is haha
#dryden Happy Thanksgiving. Nice retro rip. I thought of you today. I was filming another of my random pack rips with some 00-01 UD Rookie Update and I hit my first ever expired redemption - SpX RR7 - for the Blackhawks. It said that you had to redeem by mail for a Blackhawks rookie for the next year. My friend looked up the check list and we think it was for Shawn Thronton who actually played over 700 NHL games but I don't think I am getting that. I also opened 00-01 Gold Label and hit a gold /199 Saku Koivu!
Do you mean this product is risky, or just box breaks in general? My way of thinking about it is: as long as we know the math, we can buy boxes that align with our own personal budgets. That's why I focus so heavily on odds.
COOOOL!!! I love that set! Brings back memories.
Great throw back, great product fun watch the rip

I hope in the next video there will be a sneak peak of any deals on boxes from today.

I think the 80's had Team and League Leaders

#dryden Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Fun break. Love the old school card look
I could be wrong but I thought Pavel was the Russian rocket 8:23
Rewatch it. I was obv referencing Pavel Bure on the previous card.
@@Fultoncards ah okay my bad man
@@Fultoncards haha it looked like you were pointing at the Victor Kozlov card when you said that I’m blind and didn’t see Pavel on the previous card

@@Fultoncards I feel the value is not there now as in the past for the price for current products and many past products.
