And also, I'd assume, it helps that bookshelves are much more visually solid than vines, unless the custom model stuff that makes the textures 3D interferes with how the game assess that. I saw it pointed out recently that chests cause more lag than barrels because of the extra pixel gaps on the sides that mean things behind the chest have to actively be rendered. If you've got a huge wall of bookshelves, that blocks the next wall of bookshelves from view; a similar sheet of vines can be seen right through.

@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 Yes and no. I've definitely been in a situation where I was End raiding and looked at an Enderman and not realize, then get jumped and nearly die. Which is bad because IMO hardcore is the best way to play MC and is the only way I play. Pumpkins just nullify the danger. But at the same time you should always carry a water bucket, so pumpkins are just another way to handle the situation.

@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I use the pumpkin alot, mainly cause I play a lot of hardcore and don't like risking progress by accidentally looking at enderman, it is good mainly for being able to navigate the end on foot before elytra but I always bring a pumpkin to the end as my piece of standard end equipment, just like gold armor in the nether. Some people suck at killing mobs (I have a love/hate relationship with shields) so avoiding aggro is often more important than attacking everything.
I can personally say that I did lose 1 hardcore world to accidentally aggroing an enderman, so it isn't completely out of the realm of possiblity. They're tanky depending on the equipment you have availible.

Amazing, Ive been using a lot already for years. Definetly gonna use the warm glow and wavy plants.
I wonder, are there possibilities to audio inputs? Because most of these are visual or silencing mobs, because I miss some ambience in some biomes and especially caves. The Nether update did it great and was hoping for the same for the Caves & Cliffs, but im not sure if this is possible via datapacks.

That would be nice to be able to "favourite" a pack, so when it comes to update our pack or transfer it to a newer version, we don't have to pick again everything we want and forgot probably some on the way.
Or a pack reader, we upload our pack into the website and it select what have been use to create it (but I think an account and favourite would be easier).

Wow, you always used to need to use a mod for light level indicators, complete darkness, and fog removal. Extremely impressive that these have all been done with just vanilla resource packs.
I am curious, does the fog removal also get rid of the nether fog?

I love Vanilla Tweaks -- the 3D trapdoors/chains/vines/etc, no-vignette pumpkin head, and the lush-grass-everywhere alone would be enough, but things like directional hoppers and variated textures and all these other things just make it SO good. And the fact that you can pick and choose custom elements for the pack is wonderful. More resource packs should be set up like Vanilla Tweaks.

I wish there was a variant of the light indicator to just be green and red. All the mixing colors don’t really add anything (except looks) and you will usually only care for either true or false (spawnable or non-spawnable). Maybe add a different variation?

I love Vanilla Tweaks! Is this ran by Xisuma? The quieter and more informative redstone farm stuff are my fav.
Just started playing as my kid needed help. Have been watch HC for a several years now.
My kid watches the younger YTer MC challenges vids but didn't know how to play it. They have a fun world to mess about and be creative and then we have a joint survival world.
I have been learning to create farms basically from mostly watching Impulse's hardcore live streams on YT as i didn't know what to build first other than a safe perimeter and set up the basics for food. I liked the slower paced YT VOD streams as you can see what they are doing and then learn why they are doing it by thinking out loud, like a cooking show. In knowing why and how helps me think about how i can adapt and apply it differently to our world. Coming from an It background new to this really helped in understanding how things work.
I also love learning about mods and resource packs but don't ruin the game play. My kid saw a lucky block video so i installed it. It seemed fun for them in a fun world but it didn't work in 1.18.2, which was the joint world. After getting a second account for their birthday, i am now pranked, killed or we play hide and seek. I log on and their is some weird parkour slime thing one block above our trading villagers.
They are a lot braver than me on adventurers. I do end up having to do a pick up a lot after death but we got the ender dragon with sweaty shift keys to get there! Also, if it wasn't for their adventures, we wouldn't have some of the unique items to start some farms.

random note about the vanilla clouds, and why the vanillatweaks pack needed to exist
they faded out into the fog more properly in 1.17 and prior, because cloud height aligned with the fog's color in the horizon, allowing the clouds to fade out into the right color.
in 1.18, they moved the clouds up without changing the color they fade into, so they don't blend in anymore. this is an issue with the game's fog more than anything, since it affects ALL terrain, not just the clouds. you can easily notice this when approaching a steep mountain, since it'll pop in at the edge of the fog and discolor the sky above.
i really hope mojang overhauls the fog at some point because it really just doesn't cut it anymore. the vanilla fog is just outdated and needs tweaks. also fog settings! i want old fog back as an option, from before updates like 1.18.1 made the fog so thin to compensate for low render distances >:I
