Hi Folks,
This is Dan, let me show you step by step on how I build stuff each week including my CB750 Cafe Racer & the (Honda Scrambler/Tracker build on a budget challenge) SUBSCRIBE to follow my future builds, I'm based in Australia.
=====================================================
that 'wax on the ol grinding disc' trick is best thing I have learned on RUclips in ages, thanks Dan!
Glad to help Dez :)
I like the idea of single headlight, single gauge. Looks great! I was worried when I saw the size of the gauge but the way you've mounted it made it work in perfectly! Awesome job as per usual Dan!
I am restoring a 1965 honda cb72 and I am repairing the original gauge and had to buy a speedo cable for about one $45 so what you have done is probably cheaper and the end result is brilliant. I personally think the single gauge looks better and with the gauge you have used it still looks somehow old school and not ultra modern!
Very well done Dan and thanks for another great interesting video!
Cheers from Tassie
Great content Dan. Happy to see your channel growing. Keep them comin’ ! You (and a few others) basically motivated me to start my own channel, thank you for that (it probably won’t come on your radar since it’s in French though haha).
Loving the single gauge and the fact that it also has the tachometer included.
Another great video Dan loving the CB750 build, for me the single clock for sure aesthetically it looks great with the headlight. The branding is a nice little touch too Awesome Job !!!
Thank you Carl I’m happy so many guys love it :)
the look is perfect
Single looks clean with the bike design, great choice
Single all the way. Looks awesome 👍👍
Single looks so good... Keep up the good work, mate. Get the updates coming...
Thank you Theo I sure will :)
I really like the single speedo, it looks great
Sometimes less is best 👌 Love the logo on the instruments very nice & that apron even makes you look official lol.
Nice job m8 : )
Thank mate. I do my best 🙂💪
Single for sure dan. That was a project the wanted to fight you all the way mate but turned out great.
Thank you David :)
This looks good.
Oh men great work,,,
Thank you,,
I like the view of the single with the headlight behind! Nice gauge too!
Thank Darren 🙂
Sir, I love your videos and your build. ♥️♥️♥️
Looks great
Thanks mate
Hi, lovely and tidy job !! single like that looks great, thanks , Gus
Thanx Gus, how is your ride going?
@@CafeRacerGarage Hi Dan, lots of riding now that we got our freedom back, hope it will last ..?? 250 miles last saturday and 150 on sunday after an early start to work, half five , hope its not to cold there for it. Gus
Damn Dan! You killed it looks amazing!
Thank you Tinz I’m super happy with it too :)
Definitely single, I think it looks less cluttered. Nice work Dan
Dan I like either as far as the gauge set -up would go. but for this build single is definitely the way to go. Great videos as always!
Scott Minshall Thank you so much mate yes I think I agree with you 👍
It looks great with the single wouldn't change it
Nice one Dan back in time for Sunday brekkie , nice delicate bracket looks great . Looks tidy as a single might be a bit cluttered with twins . And yeah makes a mess when ya forget the gas at least you didn't blow a great big hole in it like I did lol oopsy ..cheers Dan
Haha 😂 the gas thing happens to me all the time because I always turn the gas off at the bottle whenever I walk away from the wilder. I had a small leak once I don’t drain the bottle no time, that was $100 down the drain. So I learnt my lesson haha 😂 i’m glad you’re still enjoying my videos with your breakfast.
Looking so good Dan, On the instruments it depends on the bike But for a simple cafe style bike like yours a single but with RPM on the dial & speed in the digital part. The view form the cockpit looks perfect.
Thanks Jim, so true and I’m still yet to ride it but I’m really happy with how it looks
Single !
Good job !
Single all day! Looks great!
Thanx cal 👍
Definitely single. Looks so clean 👌🏼
Thanx David :)
single looks epic, and it kind of fits the minimalist vibe of the Cafe Racer I reckon Dan
Thanks brother, let’s hope I don’t need to go in any tunnels due to the fact it’s a GPS speedo lol 😂
Single for sure. Nice Work
Thanks mate :)
The single is what I’ve been looking for.
Thank you Mike. It’s so cool 😎 you can’t go wrong
I'm looking to replace my duel gauges on my Thruxton 900 to a single and this gauge looks perfect.
I bought a 1971 Cb750 back in 1984 .Rode that ole girl for many years back in my teen years ...Last time it seen the road was in 1988 ..sat in the garage all these years ..My oldest Son asked me all the time " Dad ,when are you going to give me that old bike ??you never do anything with it !!" .Well I broke down and gave it to him and he trailered. It home to his house 100 mile south of where I live in Fla ..Had alot of Big Hopes for the old bike ..Told me " Dad I'm going to fix this ole girl up and get her back on the road .....Well my Son passed away .Back in December of 2015 ...My Brother and I trailered it back up to my house and I put it back in the shed ...One. Day when I get the money together I want to build it into a Bike in Memory of My Son Justin ....Rest In Peace Son .Until we meet Again
Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. I really hope it turns out amazing for his memory when you get to it. Where are you located?
Love it you teach me something new everytime I watch your videos but where can I get one of those gauges
Single gauge for a modern look which suits your bike. Good job with the mounting bracket.
Thank you 😊 yes I agree
@cafe racer garage i definitely go single looks alot more cleaner, but good job man.
Great job as always. I do
prefer a single element.
100% and thank you mate
The gauge looks awesome and I'd have to say single, prefer the clean look 👌
Thank you mate :)
Great video. I have a Café racer project also and I was looking for to do similar mount(s) for the speedo and rev gauge. Thanks!
@@LauriMajamaa no worries mate. I’m so glad that you got some ideas from this video.
Hi Dan, Luv your channel and very inspirational. Have you had to restore tacho face plates or know of anyone who supplies new tacho decals?
Single gauge Dan 👍💪
🔥
I like the dual setups, but that's just me.
We are all different and that’s what makes the bike building industry so amazing. 😉
Those jeans and the apron look fantastic. So does the single gauge and bracket.
Thank you so much Matt, I’m glad you like it :)
I like to use beeswax for cutting aluminum. It has the same affect, but it also makes it smell like honey. Also I like the simplicity of the single gauge, especially when you get get both RPM and speed on the same one.
I’ve never tried beeswax before. I guess it must still work the same. 👍
I have the same bike and I went with a single. I need the GPS speedo though. Right now I judge my speed by rpms and gears
I go for the single.
Cheers.
Thank you mate
looks great man. Single for me.
Thank you mate 🙂
Single gauge 100%. I had the same problem and ended up switching gauges entirely and the bracket needed to be dropped down. I feel your pain 😂 she’s looking good tho!
Thank you mate. We just need to keep fabricating till we are happy with the look :)
Single gauge mate , looks wicked . I wouldn’t mind a gauge like that for my build , are they available to buy ? And at what cost ?
Single definitely. I removed my tach unless I need to test or calibrate just to maintain the single look
I like having a tach. That single unit is pretty rad with the combo. Stick with that. Where did you get it?
Ive got the cognito moto version of this speedo. Goes alright. Love how you changed the logo to your own.
I mounted the selector switch in the triple tree. Where are you going to install the GPS receiver? I got lazy and just let the magnet from it hold onto the top triple nut.
I'm actually making a video on a bunch of brackets like this on, Im putting the sensor on the backbone just in front of the tank where there is a gap.
@@CafeRacerGarage Yeh nice. Just don't make it permanent until you know it will pick up the signal in that position. They don't like really cloudy days and tunnels. But that's to be expected.

Hi Dan, may I know how you did on the petcock? I noticed that the petcock was vacuum petcock.
What brand of speedometer did you go with? And do you have a certain brand you prefer? I'm building a cafe racer of my own and I'm looking for recommendations of a quality Speedo, but I'd like to stick with the old-school look too. Thanks in advance!
Interetsed on knowing that speedo brand 👍
You could turn that into a carbon fiber mold... would look pretty rad!
I did dual large speedo and small offset tach on my cb750.
That would of looked awesome 😎
Wish I could get a set up like this for my 81 GS1100E. I think a single looks better when there is a cowl or front fairing.
Very true :)
What a pretty looking cockpit. How thick the aluminium that you use? I use a random 1 mm steel to mount my original speedo and it's not stiff enough, bouncing around when i'm riding. Maybe you could give an advice?
I'd do a single, but one with everything. One that have at least a speedometer, a tachometer, and an odometer.
The one I’m using is 3mm thick and definitely doesn’t seem flex much at all.
hey mate, great videos as always, what is the brand of the speedo, is it a GPS one? cheers
Speed hut yes it's GPS
You look like making a braket so easy. Can you make on for me? No joke
Great work Dan. I am going single. I can hear my revs. Where did you get the custom gauge mate?
Thank you mate yes it definitely is a very cool looking speedo by itself. Seed hut mate 🙂
What’s the tool you use at 1:07 to cut the hole? Some kind of hand laser cutter?
I’m curious where you got the guage from I need 1. 🙂
Мечта 👍👍👍👍👍
On a somewhat "minimalist" style bike I think single is the way to go, as gar as guages..
Single looks great! But perhaps 2 small would look neat? What alloy tig are you running? And what about the belt grinder? Cheers mate.
Very true. The Tig Is a Ac/dc 205 Cigweld available in Australia and NZ and the belt grinder is made in Australia by 84 Engineering
Awesome cheers. I purchased the 3in1 cigweld you use since watching your videos. Its been great as a mig. Haven't tried the tig yet. And for a moment thought you were using it to tig the ally! Haha. Ill have a look at the belt grinder aswell. Looks good. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Single is much cleaner looking. But for the greater visibility of the information go with double.
Thank you ken :)
Motoscope mini all the way for me
Very nice gear 😁
Single for sure. Just found your channel. I'm "cafe"ing a Ducati Bevel square case. I'm green as!...this will be my 1st build. Can I ask, where you got the speedo gauge? 👍
That’s awesome brother you’re in the right place to learn some new skills 😁
This one came from a place called speed hut
Thought you were going to tell us about the speedometer? Sometimes it’s hard to find good aftermarket parts that aren’t Chinese crap.
Single, a much cleaner look
excellent job, where can I buy that guage? Thanx
On this bike? Single. Minimalistic style, Scandinavian!
I think Dan...I'm a bit concerned about your bracket. Not that I try to "beat you" at your game. That piece you welded on (thank you for sharing mistakes!) where those two "legs" meet up at the bend, that's a week point. Those two corners may broke in time by vibration. A better solution would be rounded corners and the cutout a few mm further down making the bend go all the way through the bracket. Difficult to explain! Does it makes sense? When that said, a very well made film, high quality, learning and entertaining at the same time. Thank you!
Hi John, I totally understand what you’re saying and you’re 100% right. Maybe on the second version I can make those changes 👍 Thanks again for your wise input
@@CafeRacerGarage I hope I don't sound like a back seat driver! I thank you for sharing.
@@johnDukemaster Not at all, I like the feedback :)
Hey Dan! Where did you get the single guage? I'd love to get one like that for my own, I haven't found many styles that I like
its a speedhut gauge
@@Kevin-kk2rx Thank you!
How can I share some photos of my build using the same gauge but also using a slightly different approach? Cheers.
Mrletoy you can find me on Instagram and personal msg me if you want.
@cafe.racer.garage.07
Sigle!
A silly question from someone who knows jack about metalwork, if u won't mind...
The welding of the gauge that u did, why couldn't you make the entire piece just one piece and bend it into the final shape with the elevated portion too, all in one? ...I'm just curious!
I love your work and I'm mad jealous about the metal work knowledge that you possess. Thanks for being an inspiration. I hope to be starting of my practical learning soon somehow. I live in India, I don't know who to trust to teach me, so youtube it is, haha! (theory first).
johnybrokeit You are 100% right you could’ve done this with one piece but if you remember from the video I was originally not going to have the stepdown so I added that later and needed to weld it or make myself a whole new piece.
You could easily make the same thing with just a vice and a hammer. And something to cut the aluminium with. There’s no such thing as a stupid question. we all have skills in different areas and I’m happy to help :)
@@CafeRacerGarage o yes, thanks for reminding me about the stepdown bit.
And thank you for your kind words.
You won't believe it, i have really long hair now, to the middle of my back.. it was a deal i made with a buddy, that i wouldn't chop it off till i finished this project i was working on. It is a yamaha RX 135cc motorcycle that i wanted to rebuild myself into a brat style bike. I got the painting and everything done but a brackets i got stuck with for over 2 years now hahahahaha. The bike parts are sprawled all over my front room (in a very organized manner of course) in my 4th floor apartment.. 3 of my buddies helped me drag it up here.
The circular connection of the chassis behind the seat that u guys usually weld on to the frame, i wanted to just make a separate pipe piece that bolted on to the rear shocks top screws and "looked" like they were welded to the frame. This is so i could bring the bike back to stock (just in case) and have a clean frame without having ever cut it.
i'll get it done soon, can't wait to get rid of this long hair. Chicks like the curls, but long hair i reckon should be only for girls, man. Unless u look like a warrior from the 300 movie haha. Cheers! And thank you for your reply.
How is the viewing angle of the gauge while you’re seated? Seems a little flat.
Ryan Ainsworth great question, it’s such a large gauge it’s totally visible as your head is right above it 👍
Single and I don't even own a Bike yet. But if I did I would only want a Single
What is your day job, Dan? I would love to learn your skills but I'm just a desk jockey
Thank you mate. I’ve had lots of jobs over the years to learn new skills in each one, I still have much to learn but we all start somewhere so my advice is to just have a go.
is this the 4 1/2" speed hut dual gauge?
Yes that’s it :)
Please make detailed video on your headlight
This headlight started as a bit of an experiment.
You have the same intro as Thornton hundred motorcycles? Should have kept the old intro;)
Dual Dials for me.
Nice Dan!! What speedo company made that custom for you?
I've sent you the direct link in patreon brother :)
Hi Dan would you be kind enough to send me that link too, love to have my logo on my dial too! Single does it for me, looks great, cheers Rich
Killer Customs speedhut mate 👍
Cafe Racer Garage thank you my friend!!! Awesome!!!
what break is that you are using?
R6 front end and stock rear brakes mate :)
@@CafeRacerGarage haha sorry i meant metal brake. what you are using to make your bends
Singel
Can I ask what is the exact model of the odometer
This one was custom-made from speedhut this one was custom-made from speedhut
looks so nice, that i get shivers 🥶. single for me also
Haha thanx mate
Dual
I'd go for a single or a small LED screen just to show speed.
Simplistic is always good. 😁
@@CafeRacerGarage I just want to say that I appreciate that you go and read the comments and reply to so many people, it really raises the quality of your channel.
Single all day
Hi Dan, I'm a single kind of guy.
Haha 😂 well said 👍
def single
Single, definitely...

What is the actual guage i dont think u told us where its from
Braden Giblett speed hut is the brand mate :)
@@CafeRacerGarage thanks mate love seeing an aussie channel doing well, hope to see you and the bike on the road oneday.
