I know of groups who believe apostles still exist today, but will not give anyone that title because of how the term has been abused. There are certainly people who use that title to claim to be more than they really are, even deceiving themselves.

I still believe in the 5 fold ministry sure, I've met prophets and some apostles and definitely not all who claim to be are I'm sure. But they have a purpose as the bible says, to equip the saints for the work of ministry so they are very much needed according to God.

Yes, the apostolic gift is still in operation, but it looks different now, and it has been repurposed. I would say that missionaries and to a lesser capacity Bishops are the people that operate in this role in today's Church

Well it was definitely Mathias who became one of the twelve over Paul. Paul was a "self proclaimed" apostle because he did not fit the criteria.
He did not claim he met the "resurrected Jesus" he claimed he met the "Angel of Yahweh" who had to knock him off his horse and told him personally that Jesus was Him in order for Paul to believe.
Because he was one of the people persecuting those who believed Yesh/Jesus was the Angel of Yahweh in the flesh.
Letting us know he was in no way going to believe Yeshuas ministry while in the flesh, completely rejected it and would only believe it if Yahweh Himself came and told him face to face.
As a Pharisee he believed in the "Angel, resurrection, and the Spirit of Yahweh/Shaddai"
Yesh/Jesus warned those who were with Him not believe anyone who said they were taught in private by Him because they were with Him from the beginning.
So He would not come in the flesh hand pick 12 apostles who walked and talked with him personally for years just to give the "real gospel" to a random unbeliever who rejected His teachings and denied his divinity in the flesh.
And even though we see that Yeshua/Jesus rewarded some of His apostles that "Believed" He was Yahweh יהוה by letting them see He was the Angel of Yahweh in the flesh on the Mount of transfiguration, we are now led to believe it was not much of a reward if He revealed He was the Angel Yahweh to one who rejected Him in the flesh completely.
Yesh/Jesus promoted Isaiah 6. All parables around the "seeds, trees, fruits, leaven, etc." are about Isaiah 6.
If we believe Yahweh would appear to an unbeliever to personally convince him He was Jesus, it defies the word of the Lord.
It contradicts the Tanakh and the words of Yesh/Jesus (which are the same) and denies the very reason Jesus spoke in Parables.
He spoke in parables purposely to "confuse" unbelievers about the word to fullfill the "ongoing" prophecy of Isaiah 6.
Anyone who would deny The Word of Yah יה would be given confusion over the "Torah/Tanakh/Word" and even the little understanding they do have will be taken from them. (Prosperity prechers think thats about money).
Pauls Epistles are the only writings that say The Elohim is not the "author of confusion" purposely to go aginst Tanakh/Torah (OT) that says He definitely will use confusion on unbelievers.
This is done because the grounds for him being an "Apostle" is based on Yahweh giving "more understanding" to an unbeliever than those who believed in Him from the beginning.
Even in the book of proverbs it is written in Chapter 28 verse 9 that anyone who turns their ears from the hearing of the Torah even their prayers shall be an Abomination.

There are only 12 apostles. When Judas betrayed Yeshua ,there were 11 for a short time. Then, the apostles
( with Yeshua's help )picked his replacement . There are only 12 seats for 12 apostles. Paul was not an apostle chose by Yeshua. He never walk with him or was given instructions by him. Yeshua warned them about false teachers. And that if someone said hes in the desert, or the wilderness not to believe them. That when he came back all would see him .Question: How is it that Paul saw him on his way to Damascus?

Perhaps Paul used the word Apostle a bit loosely, sometimes seeming a little jealous of those who were Apostles & lived with Jesus. I believe he was the only one who called others outside of the originals as Apostles. Though a convert & a very intelligent Pharisee, we must remember that Paul was only a man, just as you & I. The Holy Spirit may lead us to say & do things, but that doesn't mean that we're perfect & all knowing. We can still have bad traits & say things that aren't quite right.

@Travel Through The Lens that passage has much debate, and each of those gifts for the church today has to be weighted on Scripture, but as for apostles, there were apostles but not anymore. And as for prophets, that's hard to say because according to the Bible there are no new prophecies, Scripture is the final writing.

    John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
    (disciple) G3101 μαθητής mathētēs math-ay-tes'
From G3129; a learner, that is, pupil: - disciple.
_Apostles means someone who is sent._

From G649; a delegate; specifically an ambassador of the Gospel; officially a commissioner of Christ (“apostle”), (with miraculous powers): - apostle, messenger, he that is sent.

@0:25 - Nope! Not every believer of Jesus is a disciple. By definition, a disciple is someone who is accepting the DISCIPLINE of a Christian lifestyle. This doesn't describe MOST professing Christians even in America, let alone in other countries. Jesus was very clear in saying that those who refuse to pick up their cross and PAY THE COST of following Him are not worthy of being His disciple. Many of those who believed in Him deserted Him (John 6:66), turned away, etc. AND NEVER RETURNED. Just like today.
@3:21 - The five-fold ministry is still alive and well today! Which means that there are apostles today and one of them is writing this comment. Apostle Paul is NOT an "exception to the rule", but an example that the "being with Jesus" qualification includes learning DIRECTLY FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT (who teaches everything that JESUS SAYS (John 14), not from people (Galatians 1-2). Duh. This kind of false teaching is why people find out the hard way that someone has apostolic authority TODAY when they try to come against us. The only thing that you said that is correct is that this is a matter of authority, which comes from God, not people (see Romans 13). Authority comes from completing trials and tribulations with JESUS (acing tests!)! Clearly, you don't have the authority from God to teach on this subject because you don't have knowledge of this...and yet you are. I pray that God has mercy on you for misleading people (false teaching is a serious matter!).
JESUS: “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine." (Matthew 10:37-38 NLT)
The Cost of Being a Disciple (Luke 14)
25 A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else-your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. 27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. 30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’
31 “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him? 32 And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. 33 So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.
34 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? 35 Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!”
Ephesians 4:11-16 - Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
