context: old movies of the studio era (i.e. Golden Age) were like operas & more recently musicals (in the Broadway manner), they took around 2-3 hours, hence the need for intermissions
(in the case of operas (e.g. "Bridgerton" season 1), people were much more interested in socialising, preening/showing off, business transactions, gambling, gossiping/intrigues, & šęжūął liaisons, rather than actually watching and/or listening to the music)
I like to substitute the sodas and ice cream with beer. I genuinely think they're stand-ins for alcohol in most scenes... So Grunkle Stan is just drunk.
There's even a scene where Dipper and Grunkle Stan have "soda cans" littered all around them after upsetting Wendy by exposing Robbie. It makes more sense as beer.
@@user-ix1rp9ff3p I always did wonder about some older movies that I've seem having joke intermission screens that lasted about 30 seconds or so (main examples I can think of are Kung-pow enter the fist, and Monty python's holy grail) and the classic "let's all go to the lobby" song. It was always a bit confusing to see those when I'd never actually seen an intermission in a movie before, or at least never seen one that was long enough for anyone to even get out of their chair before it was over.

This kind of thing is why whenever I introduce this show to someone I always get them to watch it through again a couple months later so we can nerd out over all the insane foreshadowing and pause every 12 seconds to pog at the million hidden bills

Having seen the polish version I realize that a lot of those jokes were much better there than the English ones.
For example "the most distracting object"
English version Stan said: "I can't even remember what I was talking about"
While in the polish version Stan basically said: "I can't even remember what Junk I was trying to sell to you."

1:34 i remember the VERY NIGHT this episode aired, and this tv part fucking, had, me, rolling. I thanked god we had dish and i could record and rewind the show. i sat there, on the airing night, fucking losing my mind laughing so hard because of the old guys name, and it pretty much cemented my love for this show. I kept up with it all the way to the end and legitimately fucking sobbed the night weirdmaggedon 3 aired. I will forever love this show, and i still wish all the time it was still going, but at the same time, im so much more thankful that it ended on a very high note, and will be remembered as one of the great shows of my generation, i would even go so far as to compare it with spongebob, regular show, and adventure time as a legendary cartoon.
There's no Disney Channel from where I come from but the moment I found this show and watched the first episode, I already counted the days it was gonna take to finish the series cause I loved it so much & when it ended I thought that no other animated show could compete with the smart writing & emotional story-telling like Gravity Falls did. It truly is LEGENDARY

I definitely have plans to expose the children in my family (my nieces, my nephew whos going to be born this year, and one day my kids!) to gravity falls, and all the other cartoons from not just my generation, but also last gen, like Flapjack, Dexters lab, Chowder, Kids Next Door, etc (if you havent seen these cartoons before, i highly recommend them)
@@idkissausername1667 The shows you mentioned are definitely a part of my childhood as well (but i never saw Kids next door) & one day when I have kids I would like to show them Over the Garden Wall, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Avatar: TLA, Invader Zim & maybe even Hazbin Hotel. Those shows inspired me to try the animation field and to improve my story-telling and writing skills. It would be amazing to show it to them in the future.
