Your comment is not inappropiate at all. The Meiji Restoration transformed what was basically still a feudal medieval society into a fully industralized state in less than 50 years. It is a very impressive achievement without a doubt.

You are right. In any other court of law a judge who had a personal stake in the outcome of the case wouldn't be allowed to preside over it. It's a blatant conflict of interest.

Right especially since it puts the credibility of the entire trial at stake. Not smart to do that

The main reasons for the difference between the Nuremberg Trials and the treatment of Germany versus prosecution of Japan's crimes are the way the Japanese destroyed the records, but more so due to the need to keep the Emperor on the throne. They really understate that in this video, but it was understood that a huge portion of the Japanese military would have resisted any surrender, without the Emperor to order it and put his stamp of approval on the US occupation. Even beyond the military issue, US experts on Japan were nearly unanimous that huge sections of Japan would be ungovernable without the Emperor...and that the US might very well required to "pacify" the home islands by armed force. It is possible that after the pacification that the US would have removed the Emperor and made a wider effort to bring Japanese war criminals to justice, but any plans of that nature would have been discarded as soon as Japan became so vital as a base from which to defend South Korea. These are tough topics, so I applaud you for taking them on by reacting to them.🖖✌

Actually, Col. Delfin Jaranilla (the Filipino judge), excused himself from issues related to atrocities in his country.

Yeah we still owned the Philippines at the time.
A notable moment from that part of the Pacific Theatre would be the Bataan Death March, a systematic brutal treatment of mainly American and Filipino prisoners of war.
They joined the UN as a founding member about a month after Japan surrendered, and we gave them full independence on the Fourth of July the next year, 1946.
Edit: adding this on here. The Bataan Death March has a re-enactment as a show of defiance regularly in New Mexico and it’s been going for years. I don’t know if they’ve got something similar over in the Philippines though.

Also, fun fact: the Philippine flag flips upside down, with the red and blue swapping places, during wartime. You might see the flag looking a little different from 1941 to 1945, and that’s why.

At 7:05 the category of crime on the far left is the planing or initiation of war. The center is war crimes(like execution of POW)
In the German video the fourth category was a combination of the 3 could get you indighted.

Japan surrendered about 4 months later than Germany, so they had a lot more prep time

The best movie on the early occupation of Japan is "Emperor". Hirohito was punished, he went from "god" to mere "man". Yes, the US benefited from criminal data and imported criminals from both Germany and Japan. Of course both the Allies and Axis committed war crimes. Politics has nothing to do with morality.

I think Japans argument would work in their favor, if they didn't commit war crimes, kill incconent people and didn't use experimentation on Asians all across Asia.
If you want to claim you were attacked by western imperialism, that's fine. It's just doesn't work in your favor, because of all of the death and destruction you have committed because of your war.
I know Japan doesn't like to admit their war crimes and genocide in Asia. But when it comes down to that argument of western imperialism it just doesn't work. Just because western powers were colonizing Asia, doesn't give you an excuse to do it too. It's kinda like with Israel right now. They have been committing war crimes and Genocide on the Palestinian people for decades now. Why? Because they have been using Hamas as a tool to justify their war crimes and genocide to exterminate not only Hamas but also the Palestinian people as well. Two wrongs don't make it right. Just because you feel like you were attacked, doesn't give you an excuse to do the same thing as western powers were doing.
In fact if you wanted to protect Asia from Western powers, then you could've just protected them without death and destruction. You could've been the bigger man and said " Hey were better than this. We don't need an empire. We need to protect Asia from Western imperialism. So to do that, we need to fight against western powers and protect smaller Asian nations that are just trying to survive." That way, you would've been seen as the moral Asian nation that everyone in Asia can look up to and be inspired by. But no. Instead you just did exactly what western powers did. How unfortunate that is.
