A lot of smart sockets that sell for more money than this model don’t have the power usage measurement feature. I think this measurement of watts volts and amps at the price they sell for is amazing.
Don't do this again or I will block and report you. Ok so you clearly work for this company. I don't do this on this channel so please refrain from adding a sales pitch to my video. To everyone that may see this comment, if you have a question and want an honest unbiased opinion, just ask me.
Gadget Inspector I’m sorry if I said anything that offended you. Looking back on what I wrote it does sound a bit like an advertisement. I didn’t think that being positive like that would come across the way that you interpreted it. I’ve been a home automation enthusiast for 30 years and bought tech from dozens of different companies. But I’ve never ever worked for anyone in this field. My day job is with computers, not hardware. That all said, I do have a question for you and a request. Since this video was made, a different company has released a product with nearly identical features at half the price. Have you seen or used this competing product? Would you be willing to do a review of it and compare it with the product in this video? I’m not able to say the name of this product here because you explicitly asked me not to promote anything on this channel so I’m respecting that request.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking for a smart plug to attach to an elderly patient's cooktop. I need to program the plug so that if it is supplying power for over X minutes, shut off for maybe a half hour. Do you know if i can do that with the Sonoff s31?
Two of these smart sockets can fit into a standard duplex outlet - one into the top outlet and the other into the bottom outlet. This is difficult to see since the power strip used in this video has the outlets turned 90 degrees from the standard orientation.

Gadget Inspector Lol! You think I work for this company? No, I don’t. In fact, there is a different company now selling a nearly identical product for half the price of this one. This is true. Why would I tell you about this other product if I was an employee of Sonoff? FYI I’m not stating the other product name or company name here because you asked me not to promote anything on this channel and I respect your request.
Great video and it shows how easy it is to set up. However there is a lot of limitations in the built in software provided out of the box. For advanced users this smart socket is supported by a different software called Tasmota which enables more advanced interoperability with other products. Specifically it supports MQTT which is a standard that lets products from multiple vendors all work together.
telj1 you are correct! You don’t need to buy a google home device to use the google Assistant. Additionally, people like me who have only an iPhone can still download the google Assistant app from the App Store and use it to control these devices too! I use my voice to talk into my iPhone running the google Assistant app to control these devices and it seems to work just fine. So I find it unnecessary to buy additional hardware for voice controls.
I have one of these. It connected right up the first time I connected it to my router wife network. But then I later decided I didn't want it on my main network and wanted it on the guest network. After all, there is no reason for it to have access to all of the components on my network. So I tried to add it to the guest wifi and it would never connect. But it will connect all day to my main wifi. I have never been able to figure out why.
I know it is 3 years later, but just in case someone else is watching. Check if your guest network allows clients to connect with each other. Sometimes this feature is blocked in firewall for security. Also, check id your dns settings are the same on both, you might have restrictions that are not allowing the app to complete the operation.
i have pruchased 5 unit , no one can connected with the router,,, always showing no network,, but when i test the network it is OK..mybe u can give me ur hand
Why is pairing with the phone/router so hard? Instructions sheet doesn't give step by step . . . and if it did, it'd probably be too small of a type face to read. I have to use magnifying glass. I have one device connected and it works marvelously; but it took several hours of trying over several days before it finally decided to behave. Now I have an S31 on off switch and I'm going through the same ordeal again. Same router, same iPhone, same wifi link, same password. I'm simply trying to add a 2nd device (the switch). GRRRRR. It never pairs. I have the switch within one foot of the router same router. Pairing times out in 2 minutes. (starts saying 3 minutes but times out when it gets to 1 minute). This just simply shouldn't be so hard.
And I finally have a positive result. I had to do "compatible pairing" first, I think. I put it into the fast blink mode, went to my iPhone wifi settings and found the wifi for the device. Entered password 12345678 and it paired. Then, went back to eWelink and it paired to the router within seconds. A decent step by step instruction sheet sure would help. Also, a legend for what each of the indicator lights mean and the different pattern definitions would help a lot, too. They're smart people, why can't they figure out how these units and the instructions more user friendly? Seems that they go out of their way to make them difficult, starting with the postage stamp instructions with type so small that a magnifying glass is required.
ROFL… ditto!!! But i got it going. Another caveat is the S31 requires WiFi registration with a 2.4Ghz access point. Another hidden fact: since it is designed originally first the European market, it tolerates 240VAC so i use them to stop charging my electric motorcycles.

GREAT REVIEW!!.
👍👍👍
Yeah, it's pretty cool bro.

So only benefit is that you can turn on the lamp without getting up from the couch?
Can the ground prong be removed?
Great review. Fyi: if you have an android tablet or phone, you pretty much have a google home. Or at least the ability of the smart home functions.
Ahh, ok.

Nice device for sure and video
It's very cool once you get a few of these setup around the house.
