- Apple’s second-generation AirPod Pros aren’t the stemless, earth-shattering buds I was hoping they would be. Instead, Apple took an already great product and added some simple upgrades to battery life, some minor case improvements, and added a new H2 chip for better audio quality and active noise cancellation. But the $249 earbuds are contending with fiercer competition than ever before. Over the last few months alone, we’ve seen excellent earbuds released by Samsung, Google, and Sony that all give the second-generation AirPods a run for their money. If you aren’t tied to the Apple ecosystem it is now safe to say there are better options available.

While most reviewers just side with the specs and explain features from the product ads, it's refreshing to see someone actually test things out and give an unbiased opinion.
Thats because specs and graphs can tell you how a headphone sounds lol. Saying stuff like "The mids are crispy" means nothing
@@Robstrap yeah but this is a step further. Sometimes the specs tell only half the story.
@@Robstrap one review of one pair of headphones saying “the mids are crispy” is useless yeah, but if you follow a reviewer and check out their videos on other competing products, you get a sense of their taste and then comments on sound quality do have value, by comparison.
@@Robstrap it gives normal ppl a point of reference, which goes wayyyy further than hearing about specs. 'the mids are crispy' is easily understandable for the average person

There is so much technical and visual creativity in this review, I just loved watching it even if I'm not that much interested about these earbuds.
Honestly the FindMy support should be praised more. It’s SO EASY to lose one of the buds, or the case. Finding them is effortless now!

Fax, gladly i never fully lost my previous airpods but I did misplace em a few times and go crazy tearing everything apart to find em
Sure, the APP 2 looks good and all - But Becca’s evolution as a Verge reviewer is the gem of this video! Love the direction she’s moving in. Would not be surprised to see her go off on her own at some point! Well done, great video as always!

Active transparency lowers the loud noises just a little but enough. It doesn’t completely dump the noise (like you might expect) but kind of ”adjusting” it so its effect is hard to detect but in my experience it works.
Every time Becca posts a review, I have to comment because it is so impressive how good she really is. I put her up there among the best reviewers on RUclips. Just amazing content that engaging and fun to watch. She is a gem..

One thing that I have found Apple AirPods (Pro or otherwise) work better than anyone else is being able to switch from using the phone to the iPhone easily. With most other earbuds, they tend to stay locked to the last device it was connected to, so I would need to manually disconnect it on that device (MBP) before the iPhone can connect. AirPods just seamlessly switch to the new device

Listening to this using the AP3's I could definitely hear the difference between the mics on the APP1 and APP2. It's fuller on the APP2 - which if you're on a lot of calls, having sound closer to the wired Ear Pods is really welcome. Thanks for the review.

A very thorough real world review. Thanks. But I agree with most other reviewers that the audio improvement is more dramatic. Maybe it’s very individual with ears. But I had to crank the old ones to hear the detail in music. These I can keep at 30-40% and enjoy even more clarity.
To me I have noticed the adaptive transparency kicking in. It’s somewhat subtle, but we live where several rural ambulances make their final turn toward a hospital. They often suddenly turn on sirens right behind our house as they approach the intersection. It startles me if I’m deep in thought. These sirens and other loud sounds in our home are subdued just enough to reduce that affect.
The call quality test would really be dependent on carrier and signal strength even more than audio source so that part gets really subjective.
To me, Bose make incredible speakers but I don’t love their headphones. I think with this update Apple now has their own unique sound that I like better. But I’m sure the competition will heat up from here.
So this video is a good honest review and these are my honest thoughts in reply.

I like the review. I just have to wonder if you turned off spatial audio and how the EQ is set in Spotify when you were comparing V1 to V2? Or if you have Spotify set to play high quality or download the playlist in high quality. I notice a much fuller sound in the bass and highs myself. But I know special audio can take away from the sound.
A lot of factors to coincided when listening and comparing.

Apple Watch series 4 and AirPods Pro are two devices that no matter how many upgrades seem to happen, they do their job perfectly well and don't justify an upgrade.

Having seen the MKBHD review, these sound far more interesting now that they have been reviewed than Apple undersold them to be in the event. Quite rare though, with most gadgets it’s hype but not much of an improvement.
Actually most times apple does undersell cause they have no time to get into specifics but I’m keeping my 13 pro max

I love them. I've always been an over-ear headphone guy and never owned any apple products. But I recently bought an iPad pro for university and thought id give the new airpods pro a try since they just came out, I had a discount and they would fill a gap in my available peripherals. I was honestly blown away by their quality and the QOL benefits they gave me in my industry (I work in a studio space, making practical effects pieces for films and am also a game designer). They are definitely expensive, but if you, like me need a pair of wireless earbuds and are already accustomed to good sound quality from your audio devices, then this will be a great addition to your EDC.

Great review! Did you notice if your pair the transparency mode disconnects on its own if you are not using it? So you will have to go to the settings and check mark Heapdphones accommodation, transparency on. Thanks.

I was so into my gen1 AirPods and haven’t really upgraded but when I visited Apple, the AirPod max and AirPod pro blew my mind.
Would appreciate it if you can test out the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 as well especially for the ANC!

I use mine every day for work calls as well as music and youtube and I have to say I noticed HUGE improvement in the ANC and good improvement in audio quality. Great improvement in mic quality. All things worth the net 100 dollars you're out if you sell your old ones when you wear them as much as I do but ofc YMMV and not everyone has been protecting their ears long enough to notice audio quality differences or even the difference between streaming and lossless etc.
That little sound that reminds you to charge them is gonna save me so many quiet train rides with dead pods lol

The Airpod Pros 2 Adaptive transparency can be so amazing. The one situation where I tried it was using an impact drill while changing tires. I was blown away by how much it reduced the sound. Every time I change tires over from winder to summer or summer to winter I use my AP2's. In terms of pure ANC I also have the Bose quiet comfort earbuds 2 and those are so much better. The amount of noise they reduce compared to the AP2 is amazing. Bose is the current King of ANC.
Personally I use both pairs of earbuds. They are both great. I'm in the apple eco system and love how easy the AP2's connect to each device. When I need the best ANC I reach for the Bose quiet comfort ear buds 2.

To anyone reading the comments, if you guys haven't tried the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pros yet. you should. The single most comfortable pair of wireless earbuds I've used, great ANC, battery life, and a wonderful depth of customization tools within the app. Nothing I've tried thus far, (and I've tried most from Sony, Bose, Samsung and Google) has come remotely close to the _sound_ _quality_ of the soundcores.
Not an ad or anything, but just love em, and like Becca said, there truly is an ocean of options for wireless buds, and wanted to give my 2 cents. (I believe they are always on sale, too! which helps.)
I’m replacing my soundcore liberty air 2 pros. Sad to see these go, these earbuds have been amazing

As someone who uses Airpods in mostly transparency mode to either listen to music when walking on generally quiet streets around neighborhood, or while doing conference calls - I absolutely love the 2nd gen Airpods Pro for its excellent transparency which is much better than the already good Airpods Pro 1st gen. The sound quality being better in bass dept is a bonus for me.

I am partially hearing impaired and I use the AirPods Pro to reduce noise that typically triggers days of tinnitus. Doors slamming or super loud noises that would typically clip audio will come through much lower. I can’t hear all tones but for some reason my AirPods Pro compress the audio and deliver it closer to my damaged ear drum. I get my Gen 2 today and I can’t wait for the quality of life improvements. 😊

Can we please add the WF-1000XM4s to the list? The battery and sound is crazy on the WF-1000XM4s but how does the anc compare? Initially I was enamored with the AirPods and their tight integration but the Sony buds have changed my mind for good
would have preferred the volume controls on the longer side of the stem but nonetheless its a very welcome addition. Becca and Conroy from cnet are some of my favorite earbud reviews in addition to game sky, el jefe and ceointhemaking

Volume is a great addition for the stem use. But mute mic would be great for me, more useful then hanging up the call

Upgrading from the AirPods 2 and these are better in every aspect plus more. First time to experience noise cancellation, needed longer battery life, better fit for my ears, and biggest for me find my, since I had many close calls losing my case
