Drain it with the petcock first to release the pressure and use a hose to drain into a container. Put some fuel on the o-ring to lubricate and don’t over tighten. Clean the housing and cap. Good informative video but definitely prime longer. My ram required like 5 or 10 cycles. The pump only runs the first few seconds to prevent damage so be patient. I have also read on other diesel forums to add some fuel to the canister however I think that might be on the unfiltered side and not a fan of that idea.
I just did this the 2nd time and heres what i observed on the priming. First time i primed it for a good 15 times, but it ended sounding just like yours. Second time i primed it for 30-40 times, and theres still a short cranking but a lot better. Ill try do it for more times next time to see if itll make a difference. Also ive read the interval on my owners manual and it noted the fuel filter and engine oil has a different internal time if you use B20 blend!
Really helpful video! It was much easier than I thought. I used a 1 1/8 6pt socket and it worked perfectly. Appreciate the great content. My start up took as long as yours 🤣.
My 2020 Wrangler Diesel Supplement says to lube the O-ring with clean engine oil. Yours sounded a little dry coming off, and when you installed it, maybe engine oil will make it smoother (not hating, just pointing it out). I’m getting ready to replace mine for the first time, so I’m doing a little research first. Thanks for the video, it’s nice to see what I am getting into before I do the job.
Just changed mine this weekend and this helped so much! I opened the petcock before I began unscrewing the housing and let it drain. Then as the housing got close to the end I opened the petcock once again to drain. Changed the filters and when I replaced the housing I noticed it slightly lock in place in the correct position upon tightening. I also cycled the pressing of the start button pretty slow. It took about 7 cycles and I could here pressure after the 7th cycle. Then when I actually started the vehicle it didn’t make any unusual sounds. Great video keep them coming. If you were to take the Jeep to Colorado to do the badge of honor trails what would you do to prep the Jeep if anything?
Good video. I needed to see how it came out so could make my new skids for my Diesel JULR. I'm putting an access hatch in the skid and only have 8k miles, so I didn't want to remove it!!!
Thanks for the video. I primed it 10 times, each time waiting for the fuel pump to be done, still had the same long start as yours. I’m wondering if it’s programmed to do that to purge after a change in fuel pressure.
This is totally worth doing it yourself every 10k miles. The dealers charge $120 just for the filter. It's crazy. Then they will change you 2 hours' worth of work. So about $350 + $120. You decide.
Precisely. I just did my oil and fuel filter again and for both of them it takes less than 30 mins including cleanup. Fuel filter swap is no lore than 10 mins including sips of beer.
FYI for oil and fuel filter Torque Specs -Fuel filter housing (18 Lbs.) (Note- Lube all 3 seals with diesel fuel when installing new one) (Note- tightened by hand until canister was sealed and properly indexed to skid plate access. Then torqued down properly) -Oil Filter Housing (18 LBS) (Note- Be sure to lube both o rings with diesel oil) -Oil Drain Bolt (29 LBS)
Thank you for the video. We are at only 3,000 miles on our JL diesel so we have some time. Always good to know where the filter is and how easy it is to change out.
Tyler my fuel filter is loose . Like it lets me push it up and down from the bracket . It only doesn’t fall through because of the skid plate. Do you know what it could be or part?
I don’t think he will reply but let me know if you still have t resolved the issue. I have the same Jeep and engine and just finished replacing my filter again.
I was just quoted $263.90 to replace fuel filter and drain water from the fuel filter assembly at a AutoNation Jeep in Golden, Co. These are crackhead prices... This is for a 2021 Wrangler with a Eco Diesel and 3600 miles on it.
This may seem like a really basic question, but how do you dispose of the fuel you drain in the bucket when doing the change? Can you just dispose it at an auto parts store like you can with drained oil from an oil change? Or do you use some other method?
Awesome vid man. Would like to start changing my own fuel filter going forward to save the several hundred clams. But one thing… didn’t you say wearing gloves would be a good idea?? I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t…;)
I have a 2021 Wrangler Sport Unlimited EcoDiesel. After watching this fuel filter replacement video I checked online for MOPAR diesel fuel filters and found P/N 68382328AB and ordered it. What I received was the whole housing assembly. I looked at a Wrangler forum thread and someone indicated their dealer said to get P/N 68436631AA, a Fuel/Water Separator. That looks more like the fuel filter that fits in the housing as shown on your video. Now I am curious to know if there is a fuel/water separator (ie a filter) in the assembly that I purchased. I am going to check with my dealer tomorrow. By the way, the assembly cost me $79.
If you don’t prime your fuel system enough and you try to crank it more then a couple times your battery will drain and you will have to charge it to get the jeep to come back on. That happened to me and I couldn’t figure out why the Jeep wasn’t even cranking anymore.
Thanks for the video, but with how temperamental this Bosch CP4.2 fuel pump is, particularly when there is air introduced, I'll rest the responsibility with the dealer to change out. I'd rather pay $450 than $6-10K for a new fuel system. Do your homework and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
whos to say that the people at the dealership know what they are doing. Quite honestly, something thats as easy as this is, Id rather do it myself knowing that it gets done correctly.
I don’t think I gave a reason, I think I was just being lazy. The viewers can see for themselves I made a mess and figure out the best course of action 🤣

Thanks for the info. I love saving money and doing this stuff myself. It helps offset the expense of owning a diesel.
I just did this process on my ecodiesel gladiator. Suuuuuuer easy! Thank you
This video is gold! Thank you so much! Jeep wave!

Love the videos brother,…. Very informative! Just bought a 2022 ecodiesel and love it.
Awesome! Glad we can help!

Great video and instructions! Much more confident going into it now.

Yeah, I really like that idea actually. I’ll try that next time. Good catch and glad you enjoyed the video!

nah I wouldn't, just run it!
thanks brother for the information. greetings from El Salvador

250 here in Oregon, great video

My dealer quoted me $450 to change the Fuel filters on my 2015 Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel ! I laughed at him
Ditto, after watching this video I am definately doing this myself!
FYI for oil and fuel filter
Torque Specs

Great video, thank you! Do you know the size of the drain valve for fitting a hose?
I think a 1/4” ID hose can slip on it
Thank you for the video. We are at only 3,000 miles on our JL diesel so we have some time. Always good to know where the filter is and how easy it is to change out.
You have a long ways to go!
Thanks man very helpful first Diesel engine. Question they told me to replace every 15k and there’s two filters I should change?
15k seems obsessive, I think the manual says 50k. On the wrangler and gladiator there’s only one. On our older grand Cherokee there’s two.
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
That is so much easier than on my BMW diesel.
Tyler my fuel filter is loose . Like it lets me push it up and down from the bracket . It only doesn’t fall through because of the skid plate. Do you know what it could be or part?

Golden is where I bought my diesel gladiator. Fort Collins jeep is just as high in cost. It's insane

Just dump it in with the old oil. It’s practically oil lol
Subbed. Great video, thanks!
Appreciate the channel.
Awesome vid man. Would like to start changing my own fuel filter going forward to save the several hundred clams. But one thing… didn’t you say wearing gloves would be a good idea?? I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t…;)
1st time doing it on my wife’s diesel Jeep, it only has 1 filter correct?
I have a Ram Diesel and my truck has 2. I don’t see one under the hood
Yeah just one
Great video, yours has a key???
🤔

Geno's garage sell the wrench to fit that for the RAM's.
If you use the drain on there, before you crack the filter, you don't end up wearing it all.
New drinking game, take a shot every time he says Ummm.
I am not responsible for how poorly that ends hahaha
Love the shirt!
Thanks for sharing.
Good job. Ignore the haters. ;)
Can i use this filter on a 2021 JL Wrangler ecodiesel? The link says 2019-2020
I do believe but I am not positive
I changed my fuel water separator and fuel filter and it still takes 5× to start and says water in fuel filter water in fuel tank 2020 Rubicon 53k
I change mine every other oil change 10,000 miles in between fuel filter changes
good video thanks-

The fuel filter was $84 plus tax at the dealership
You’re supposed to change the fuel filter within 10 minutes of running the engine that’s probably why you had a rough start
White lithium grease is much better for o rings
What about holding the gas pedal to the floor and cranking the motor
I appreciate your video & descriptions for the most part. The lighting, however, was terrible. Wish that was better.
Right right and right
Fuel filter OEM Amazon $35.00

So - he didn't "do his homework?"
He did it just fine, thanks.

You should have drained it before removing the housing, your reasoning for not doing so makes no sense as you just spilled fuel everywhere. 🤔
I don’t think I gave a reason, I think I was just being lazy. The viewers can see for themselves I made a mess and figure out the best course of action 🤣
