Chopping with friends, great way to spend a day. I’ve been itching to get out lately but we have so much snow here right now. I worry about frozen wood and loosening axe heads.
dog was left at home. Owens foot is fine now, was merely a smaller cut no bone or tendon damage luckily. I wasn't sure how much id like the 3lb axe because when I got it, it looked a little stubby but it cuts well. Was a good day out except for a Basque axe Simon said he wanted busted pretty bad on wood none of the other axes had problems cutting. Let me know if you have any problems with yours. Suffice to say I'm really done with that maker
@@benscottwoodchopper not put my one through its paces but seems ok. Clamped up the handle for a couple of days to take out a slight bend. Once shooting season is over I will give it some work. Couple of wind blown hung up ash that need to come down I should have got you to autograph the handle.ha ha ha.
@@chunk3322 I dont think it should have any issue but if it does I'll sort it out. Used the straight bit quite a lot but yesterday Simon had a swing with it and the heel broke off a coin sized piece. Maybe he's just unlucky but it was no knot or hit on the ground
@@benscottwoodchopper it's a tool, no worries on your end mate. If it fails it fails. It will mainly get used on bigger stuff that o am standing on, so will be green wind blown stuff. All good. Shame that the quality has dropped.
Hi Ben how do you rate the Prandi brand of axes. I was thinking of buying the Alder wedged 2kg splitting axe but can get the Prandi equivalent cheaper here in Ireland. Thanks really enjoy your videos.
Nice video, great to see you guys chopping together. After this and your video on PPE I have only two questions remaining: 1. Seeing how the Müller Biber performs here, do you recommend getting the 1000g head or more like a 1200g? I want to limb medium sized spruce/fir/beech (bigger than coppice, but not real old big trees) and I am 180cm tall. 2. I really want some chain maille for safety, but from here (Germany) there seem to be only extremely expensive options for buying it. And so far on the Internet I have only been able to find some trustworthy looking ones by Tuatahi or Mailletec. So I would have to add considerable shipping/customs on top of that to the price. Do you know of any options in Europe?
teh Biber canada 1000 is the perfect axe for most smaller trees, get one to start with and then if you need bigger get a hultafors hy10 1.5kg. I bought my chain mail from the USA from bill simcox dualdogwalker@yahoo.com
Been so long since i had a chance to do this sort of thing that rather than focus on filming I just filmed a bit and had fun. I think simon might have some more good footage so make sure you check his channel in the coming days
I like these ASMR videos, but I find the contrast and luminosity a bit too sharp (and blue). Could you maybe set the camera to take a slightly more mellow picture? Went in the woods this afternoon, with a billhook I made, a vintage 700g French axe I badly hung and the head came off (but it's the stupid eye design, you know, the one that looks like a Francisca), and a Daprile accetta a due taglie. Pretty happy with the accetta and billhook, but I think I'll just slip-through-handle that MF moronisca. Grilled a pair of cabbage sausages on the fire with the setting sun playing hide and seek between the trees. Enjoyed a soft orange and purple twilight with the mountains of Auvergne fading in a purple mist. It was nice.
Just watching again, cheers.
It's always nice to see the three of you chopping, feels like watching a buddy movie.
the sound of your guys chopping is fantastic!
Good to see you three gettin out again, old school work crew style👍
Good job guys !!! Seems like a great day out with great friends !! And boy did those axes chop 👍
Some serious chopping going on! Great to see you guys. Very enjoyable.
Looks like a great day out!

heeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy! good to see everyone still chopping
Looks like a good time in the woods.😊
Excellent session men.....
Great way to end it with Owen saying, “Have a swing with that. I think it cuts like shi” 🤣
These guys are living the dream
Awesome video 🤙
I just got a 4lb Sandvik at a flea market , is it a good wieght? Or too heavy?
3lb is a nice weight. A good all rounder. Good for forestry and carpentry work. Where was the dogs? How's Owen's foot?

Havent owned a prandi but ive heard they are fine. If the geometry is the same it should work the same

actually not the worst hangover chopping, thought it was going to be awful haha.
That it? 7 odd minutes of the glimmer twins out in the wood? There's got to be at least another hour of you lads out there!
Still, nice axe Ben!

Whats the objective in this area ?
Harvesting coppice
What size handle is on the first axe
26" or 67cm. a little bit too short for most work but kinda nice with this light head
What was the reason that those trees had to be taken down?
its a coppice woodland
@@benscottwoodchopper
ok . Good.
How sharp do you keep your axes?
16 to 20 degrees flat with microbevel
