    I welcome you aboard easyJet's 20 Year Anniversary aircraft, G-EZOX for a mid-haul flight to Arrecife, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. This is currently one of easyJet's farthest route from London Southend, particularly due to the performance capabilities of the aircraft. This is almost pushing the boundaries of which the A320 can takeoff, due to Southend's short runway (a mere 1856 metres in length) But how nice to fly on a milestone aircraft, which at the rear, is painted with thousands of small images shared by their customers whilst on holiday. Check out this link for more information :20years.easyje... .
    Well the airport is known for its stress-free experience due to its small size, but also a high expansion rate. Access to the airport is funnily enough made through a retail park, and surrounded by a dense residential area. On a good day, it could take you just 10/15 minutes to check-in and clear security, so its ideal for anyone who enjoys a quick airport experience.
    Enough about the airport, let's discuss the flight... We experienced a powerful, turbulent departure and a altitude restriction, shortly after departure, as we entered controlled airspace. The cloud base was fairly dense, so it took a fair amount of time before we broke out of the clouds. The routing took us across the Channel Islands, though the Brest region of France, and over the Bay of Biscay, before reaching Northern Spain. Then we moved across, through Portugal, towards Lisbon, and left via the west coast into the Atlantic. By this point, the turbulence certainly had an impact and it was on and off throughout the rest of the flight. Towering Cumulonimbus clouds (better known as TCUs) were reported in the Canary Islands which result in localised storms. You can see as we make the approach, the towering clouds build up in the vicinity.
    We did quite well to avoid these storms, and made a smooth approach/landing into Arrecife.
    easyJet offer a 'no-frills' service, as you may already know, so there is limited things that you can do on these longer flights. There is no inflight entertainment, although it has become rare that you would get IFE anymore on these short/midhaul flight. For the price nevertheless, which i believe was around £40, you get exactly what you pay for. So no complaints in the field. We departed on time, and arrived early.

    For a moment, I thought you meant the aircraft was 20 years old in 2018 but it was actually made on the 20th year of easyJet being in operation! Nice video!

    Very nice! I Iove EasyJet! Southend seems to be rather cosy :-) Sadly EasyJet is closing the base in HAM by the end of March :-(

      Rupert Hess It’s not for someone who enjoys the hustle and bustle of the larger airports haha. I know, it’s such a shame. I’m yet to actually visit Germany... thanks :D

    I have a question. I don’t know if you can answer this or not, but the pilot said our plane is a EasyJet NEO, it was a320, but when I looked at the plane it didn’t say NEO in it at all. Do you know why?

      Some of easy jets a320 neo are not painted in the neo livery.

    Fabulous video! Why is there such a difference in engine sound when climbing versus cruising as I thought take off is generally about 90% thrust and cruise is generally about 80% thrust. I know there are many factors affecting the amount of thrust but can't understand why climbing produces so much engine noise?

    • @conco010
      @conco010  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you. It’s due to the airspeed of the aircraft. During the initial climb after takeoff and the final descent to land, the aircraft is moving a lot more slowly through the air, so there is a lot less air friction occurring. That’s what causes the draft sound in the cabin during the cruise. It suppresses the sounds of the engines so they appear quieter in the cabin at that point of the flight. You are right however with the engine power, although a lot of the time you will find that the engines operate at a higher speed in the cruise than during takeoff, as longer runways can require as little as 75%. I hope this helps :D

      @@conco010 Airspeed does play a part, but it's not the main reason that an aircraft's engine noise diminishes with altitude. Don't forget that in cruise an A320 is probably doing only 240-260kts IAS. The growling sound generated by the CFM56 at high power is created by shockwaves propagating from the fan as it rotates at transonic speeds. As the aircraft climbs the air density decreases; molecules are spaced further apart and are therefore less efficient at transmitting sound waves.
