Just bought the ryzen 5 4500 model with half terabyte of ssd. Its smooth, light, and fast. I'll be using it for college so it will be perfect. The lack luster webcam is livable as its just for zoom, bluenotes.
@@SoapboxPreacher777 The SSD type is PCIe. I used Kingston A2000. you can get it from amazon. Yes i can confirm that 20GB of ram is working without problem. but nobody needs that amount of RAM unless you are gamer or video editor.

Love the Video, I have this exact model of laptop myself and I was able to upgrade to a WD sn550 1tb nvme drive as well as a 16gb stick of corsair vengeance ddr4 2666mhz ram for a total of 20 gb works awesome.

I didn't learn much here. This is a low end laptop aimed at general use, such as college work etc. If you're gonna spend money upgrading or want to play games, just buy a better one.

I picked one up for my dad, to replace his aging Asus X551M with a 'blazing' dual-core Celeron N2815, 4 GB RAM, and a mechanical hard drive. I would have preferred to find one with a 4000 series Ryzen CPU, but the only ones for around the same price had a 2C/4T 4300U and 4 GB RAM which is not upgradable.

I went through the Windows display color calibration...just type that into the windows search bar. I also tweaked some display settings in the AMD Radeon Adrenalin software.
Hey, do you recommend that we set the display scaling to 100%? I heard it could diminish performance, but I’m not sure. edit: I forgot to mention, great video! I learned from this video how to benchmark new systems and debloat them properly, and I use this laptop to play fortnite; it works out pretty well!

My son has been using his for Zoom schooling. It's definitely not an amazing camera, but it's plenty good enough. The quality of video chatting is much more dependent on your connection.
I’m sorry I didn’t watch the entire video so you probably did answer these questions but, does it have a usb 3 port? I’ve read conflicting statements saying it doesn’t have one & it does have one but doesn’t charge. Also do you know if you could upgrade to more then 8gb or is 8gb the max? The one I bought has two USB 3 ports and one USB 2 port. A viewer reported in one of the comments that he replaced the one 4gb stick of ram with a 16gb stick for a working total of 20gb. Hope the laptop serves you well!

That's pretty nice but you probably would have been better off with something like a Latitude 5410... but that's just me. You can find these on the "used" marked and overstock for less then $500 complete with an i5, 16gb of ram, a beautiful 1080p display, 256gb Nvme ssd.. Mine even has Windows hello and the build quality without question is far superior, think hinge. I just bought one and gave my daughter my 7490, I can't say I've gone wrong. I spent about the same and I still got another 2.5 years left of a factory, pro support warranty. It's not that I think buying this Lenovo is a bad deal or anything, you just get more for your money. More expandability, more nice display, more nicer backlit keyboard.. at least in my configuration and built like a tiny tank. It was in my opinion a pretty good deal.

Really the only thing to do is uninstalling any bloatware that might be on it. Oh, and make sure you have the power settings set to favor max performance while plugged in. I use balanced for battery power.

That's pretty much it for the software side. I leave windows game mode on too and that just clears a lot of the background processes while in a game. It helps a little.

Thanks for the view! I didn't upgrade the RAM. But any 2400MHz 8GB stick should work fine. The motherboard may allow a faster speed, but I have not tested this. 8GB total RAM is plenty for my son for now.
Does AMD work better with dual ram? So upgrading the one stick of ram to 8 mess with the processor...? Honestly asking trying to learn how these AMD processors work verse intel
I upgraded my son's with an 8gb stick for 12gb. I saw slight increase in performance. At the low end it seems better to have higher capacity than faster speeds. Because at 8gb with only 6 available your ram maxes out fast
You're welcome. But, yes...in general you usually always will want you're ram to be dual channel over single channel...just doesn't matter if you don't have enough capacity to start with.
The one that I bought comes with a 1 year Depot warranty. Which covers carry-in repair, parts and labor, and also phone support. It does not cover accidental damage, on-site repair, or "premium care". You can go thru Lenovo and add 1 year for $15 or 2 years for $30. You can also add 1 year of accidental damage protection for $16.67.
My son uses his for programming with no problems. You could edit with it, but it wouldn't be a great experience. And the screen would be horrible for photo editing lol

The only downside would be only having 8gb of RAM in photoshop and illustrator. Plus the screen wouldn't be great for those programs either. But, if you're on a tight budget, a laptop like this would be the best thing in this price range. If you have plenty of money, then finding something with more RAM and a better screen would be better.
Hey, please I need your opinion; I'm entering into the world of design and I need a laptop but I'm really low on cash (I'll be making use of softwares like Adobe Photoshop, Figma, Illustrator...) I've been browsing for some cheap but okay laptops and I have my interest on 2 laptops which are within my budget; this Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 (AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB, 2GB Dedicated VEGA 8 Graphics, 256SSD) and the HP Elitebook 745 G5 - MT44 (AMD Ryzen 3 Pro 2300U, 8GB, 1GB Dedicated Vega 6 Graphics, 256SSD, 1920X1080 FHD). Someone advised me to go for the HP 745 G5 with his reason being that the display is better, but I'm hesitant cause I am asking myself if the display is that much better than the Lenovo's to forgo the better processor. Which do you feel will be a better option?
I would go with the more powerful laptop, because even though the hp has a better display....it still isn't a good display. Also I wouldn't get the Lenovo if it's above $400 now. Because there should be newer generations available in the 400+ range.
I have the same laptop but it's heating when I play games (my charger is plugged in) . It's my first laptop so I don't know if I should be concerned about heating . I checked stats using msi after burner and the gpu temp was 60-65°C . Do you recommend buying a cooling pad ?
Dang, if only I had parents who got me something like that. They tried about 3 years ago, but it had a dreadfully slow A9-9425 APU and a 1TB HDD instead of an SSD. I ended up buying myself a new $330 Laptop about a year later, with an A12-9720P APU. Also you should look into the storage expansion and overall upgradability of the HP as well. It's probably a better buy if it has the IPS display since neither laptop will really game well.

Does the plastic have a matte feel or a glossy feel on the area where your hands sit? My current laptop (which is also a Lenovo, looks very similar to this one) has smooth/glossy feeling plastic and I kind of dislike it

Definitely not. 8gb is almost not enough. 4gb if RAM is not good at all. Also, that version probably has a weaker Intel CPU and isn't worth that much money!
Hi! I recently bought this pc but since I turned it on it is making like a clicking or typing sound in the inside of the computer. This sound stops for 5-10 secs and then it starts again. I'm worried because sounds like it is coming from the SSD unit. I already did a scan using Seagate and also the Lenovo's diagnostic and everything appears to be good. I'm going to buy the ryzen 5 3500u version but it comes only with a soldered 4 gb ram and additional slot. Will adding a 4gb ram stick to the slot make it run in dual channel mode?
There's likely to be slightly less battery life with the 15.6 just because of the bigger screen with more backlights, but probably not very noticeable.
I am planning to buy this one. But would it be good for running Adobe illustrator smoothly? It has the minimum requirements. But I donno much about techs I saw some RUclips videos that even if your laptop meets the requirements, the app still takes a lot of launching time. Should I buy it??
It wouldn't take a lot of launching time with this laptop because it has an NVMe SSD. The weakest link would be 8gb of RAM. So it would start out great, but as you do more and more in a project you'll run out of available RAM and it will start to bog down a bit.
I have a question, I have this laptop and everything is good with it, except the GPU. I would run GTA 5 but the vega 8 is not enough. And my question is that the is the GPU integrated or i can change it?

I'd go for 12gb. The extra capacity will give more performance than dual channel at the low end level. I put an 8gb stick with the 4gb in my son's laptop and it performed better with 12gb single channel.
Hi there. I bought this laptop last Friday and I'm looking to expand its NVME memory at least to 500GB. I saw that you recommended 2242 and 2260 memory sticks to put in this laptop but I've been unable to find those at Amazon or eBay. I saw one of the comments that somebody actually used a WD SN550 to upgrade the 256 NVME this laptop comes with, but the WD is 2280, is it possible to put a 2280 NVME in this laptop, what you think?
I looks to be possible to fit one in there but there isn't a screw hole for 2280. Soooo, maybe if you treat it gently? lol. Otherwise this is the cheapest 512GB 2242 NVMe drive I'm seeing right now. @@SoapboxPreacher777 I opened up mine recently to change the ram and I saw another screw hole 40cms far from the one that the NVME is screwed. I didn't make the NVME change so far however I've concluded as well that it could be a slight chance that a 2280 NVME could fit in this computer, moving the screw that is holding the original NVME to fit the new 2280. In any case, I'll share with you guys my experience when I've done it either if it is possible or not to fit this type of memory to it.

Yes one stick can be upgraded. Lenovo says to 8gb for a total of 12...but multiple users say a 16gb stick works for a total of 20. I have not personally tried it.

That would be expensive. It's very easy to do. It needs to be DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM. Just a single stick, because only one is removable in this laptop. The laptop doesn't support higher than 2666mhz speed. Faster RAM will still work, it just won't be faster than 2666, so don't spend the extra money.

Yes. Just as most laptops, the battery is bypassed while plugged in after it is fully charged. Eventually the battery will decay regardless. The laptop has great battery life to start out though.
I have the Lenovo ideapad s340 with the 3500U ryzen 5 with amd Radeon Vega 8. Will this run better and will it be capable of playing Minecraft with shaders?
Should run the same. As long as your RAM is roughly the same. If the s340 has faster memory (the ideapad 3 RAM is 2666MHz) then you would likely get a few more FPS. And yes, it should be capable of playing Minecraft with shaders.
Because the Vega 8 graphics uses 2gb of the RAM as video memory. Vega 8 benefits more the faster the memory. But it's a small jump from 2400 to 2666 so it's doubtful you'd see a real difference. Other factors likely resulted in the higher price tag. The s340 probably has a better screen.
@@no1bro120202 Mine was 600 Something. And my Core i-5 version has four cores and 8 threads. It has 1 1ghz Normal speed with Boost up to 3.5. with a 128gb ssd with a 1tb hard drive.With intel integrated Graphics. And 8 gbs of ram.
I'm not sure what the Intel version costed him, but the main differences between the Intel and AMD CPUs in these laptops are that you get more performance per dollar with the AMD CPUs and the AMD CPUs have much better integrated graphics.
I used the Windows 10 color calibration. Go to display settings, advanced display settings, color calibration. You can also try playing with the display settings in the Radeon software.
can this laptop handle games like (fortnite, gta 5, wwe 2k20, etc...) also would you be able to use advance video editing software such as premiere pro, and sony vegas pro.

Yeah I wouldn't get that. It wouldn't perform very well. This laptop is a lot more powerful in everything other than gaming. And even then an RX 460 isn't very good.

In order to create an offline account, you just have to disable your internet connection, go one screen back and then forward again, and voila!

The battery is pretty good. My son doesn't even take his charger to school. You'll get between 6&8 hours with basic use.

The display scaling just makes the windows and text and stuff bigger. Shouldn't affect game performance. And thanks!

My son has been using his for Zoom schooling. It's definitely not an amazing camera, but it's plenty good enough. The quality of video chatting is much more dependent on your connection.

I’ve read conflicting statements saying it doesn’t have one & it does have one but doesn’t charge. Also do you know if you could upgrade to more then 8gb or is 8gb the max? The one I bought has two USB 3 ports and one USB 2 port. A viewer reported in one of the comments that he replaced the one 4gb stick of ram with a 16gb stick for a working total of 20gb. Hope the laptop serves you well!

That's pretty nice but you probably would have been better off with something like a Latitude 5410... but that's just me. You can find these on the "used" marked and overstock for less then $500 complete with an i5, 16gb of ram, a beautiful 1080p display, 256gb Nvme ssd.. Mine even has Windows hello and the build quality without question is far superior, think hinge. I just bought one and gave my daughter my 7490, I can't say I've gone wrong. I spent about the same and I still got another 2.5 years left of a factory, pro support warranty. It's not that I think buying this Lenovo is a bad deal or anything, you just get more for your money. More expandability, more nice display, more nicer backlit keyboard.. at least in my configuration and built like a tiny tank. It was in my opinion a pretty good deal.

Really the only thing to do is uninstalling any bloatware that might be on it. Oh, and make sure you have the power settings set to favor max performance while plugged in. I use balanced for battery power.

That's pretty much it for the software side. I leave windows game mode on too and that just clears a lot of the background processes while in a game. It helps a little.

Thanks for the view! I didn't upgrade the RAM. But any 2400MHz 8GB stick should work fine. The motherboard may allow a faster speed, but I have not tested this. 8GB total RAM is plenty for my son for now.

I upgraded my son's with an 8gb stick for 12gb. I saw slight increase in performance. At the low end it seems better to have higher capacity than faster speeds. Because at 8gb with only 6 available your ram maxes out fast

The one that I bought comes with a 1 year Depot warranty. Which covers carry-in repair, parts and labor, and also phone support. It does not cover accidental damage, on-site repair, or "premium care". You can go thru Lenovo and add 1 year for $15 or 2 years for $30. You can also add 1 year of accidental damage protection for $16.67.

The only downside would be only having 8gb of RAM in photoshop and illustrator. Plus the screen wouldn't be great for those programs either. But, if you're on a tight budget, a laptop like this would be the best thing in this price range. If you have plenty of money, then finding something with more RAM and a better screen would be better.

Hey, please I need your opinion; I'm entering into the world of design and I need a laptop but I'm really low on cash (I'll be making use of softwares like Adobe Photoshop, Figma, Illustrator...) I've been browsing for some cheap but okay laptops and I have my interest on 2 laptops which are within my budget; this Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 (AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB, 2GB Dedicated VEGA 8 Graphics, 256SSD) and the HP Elitebook 745 G5 - MT44 (AMD Ryzen 3 Pro 2300U, 8GB, 1GB Dedicated Vega 6 Graphics, 256SSD, 1920X1080 FHD). Someone advised me to go for the HP 745 G5 with his reason being that the display is better, but I'm hesitant cause I am asking myself if the display is that much better than the Lenovo's to forgo the better processor. Which do you feel will be a better option?
I would go with the more powerful laptop, because even though the hp has a better display....it still isn't a good display. Also I wouldn't get the Lenovo if it's above $400 now. Because there should be newer generations available in the 400+ range.

I have the same laptop but it's heating when I play games (my charger is plugged in) . It's my first laptop so I don't know if I should be concerned about heating . I checked stats using msi after burner and the gpu temp was 60-65°C .

Dang, if only I had parents who got me something like that. They tried about 3 years ago, but it had a dreadfully slow A9-9425 APU and a 1TB HDD instead of an SSD. I ended up buying myself a new $330 Laptop about a year later, with an A12-9720P APU. Lately I've been keeping my eye on an ASUS Vivobook 14 with the same APU in this video, but I can't quite afford it just yet..

Hey man, can you please help me out in choosing a better laptop? Im confused between the below two:
1) Lenovo ideapad 3, Ryzen 5 3500U - 256 GB SSD - $400
2) Hp 14 - i5 - 1035G1, 256GB SSD - $430
The Ideapad is more powerful but the hp has a better screen...so depends on how important the display brightness and colors are to you.
Well, actually the CPUs are pretty close to the same performance, but the integrated graphics are better on the AMD
Also you should look into the storage expansion and overall upgradability of the HP as well. It's probably a better buy if it has the IPS display since neither laptop will really game well.

Hi! I recently bought this pc but since I turned it on it is making like a clicking or typing sound in the inside of the computer. This sound stops for 5-10 secs and then it starts again. I'm worried because sounds like it is coming from the SSD unit. I already did a scan using Seagate and also the Lenovo's diagnostic and everything appears to be good. You may have a model with a mechanical hard drive. If so those sounds can be normal.

There's likely to be slightly less battery life with the 15.6 just because of the bigger screen with more backlights, but probably not very noticeable.

It wouldn't take a lot of launching time with this laptop because it has an NVMe SSD. The weakest link would be 8gb of RAM. So it would start out great, but as you do more and more in a project you'll run out of available RAM and it will start to bog down a bit.

Yeah you can change a lot on the Legion like a little overclocking and stuff, but the Ideapad 3 is pretty much locked down.

I'd go for 12gb. The extra capacity will give more performance than dual channel at the low end level. I put an 8gb stick with the 4gb in my son's laptop and it performed better with 12gb single channel.

Hi there. I bought this laptop last Friday and I'm looking to expand its NVME memory at least to 500GB. I saw that you recommended 2242 and 2260 memory sticks to put in this laptop but I've been unable to find those at Amazon or eBay. I saw one of the comments that somebody actually used a WD SN550 to upgrade the 256 NVME this laptop comes with, but the WD is 2280, is it possible to put a 2280 NVME in this laptop, what you think?
I looks to be possible to fit one in there but there isn't a screw hole for 2280. Soooo, maybe if you treat it gently? lol. Otherwise this is the cheapest 512GB 2242 NVMe drive I'm seeing right now. @@SoapboxPreacher777 I opened up mine recently to change the ram and I saw another screw hole 40cms far from the one that the NVME is screwed. I didn't make the NVME change so far however I've concluded as well that it could be a slight chance that a 2280 NVME could fit in this computer, moving the screw that is holding the original NVME to fit the new 2280. In any case, I'll share with you guys my experience when I've done it either if it is possible or not to fit this type of memory to it.

Yes one stick can be upgraded. Lenovo says to 8gb for a total of 12...but multiple users say a 16gb stick works for a total of 20. I have not personally tried it.
Oh and in the video you can see me take the 4gb stick out and put it back in. Upgrading is as simple as that, but with a new stick of course lol.

That would be expensive. It's very easy to do. It needs to be DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM. Just a single stick, because only one is removable in this laptop. The laptop doesn't support higher than 2666mhz speed. Faster RAM will still work, it just won't be faster than 2666, so don't spend the extra money.

Yes. Just as most laptops, the battery is bypassed while plugged in after it is fully charged. Eventually the battery will decay regardless. The laptop has great battery life to start out though.

Should run the same. As long as your RAM is roughly the same. If the s340 has faster memory (the ideapad 3 RAM is 2666MHz) then you would likely get a few more FPS. And yes, it should be capable of playing Minecraft with shaders.

Because the Vega 8 graphics uses 2gb of the RAM as video memory. Vega 8 benefits more the faster the memory. But it's a small jump from 2400 to 2666 so it's doubtful you'd see a real difference. Other factors likely resulted in the higher price tag. The s340 probably has a better screen.

@@no1bro120202 Mine was 600 Something. And my Core i-5 version has four cores and 8 threads. It has 1 1ghz Normal speed with Boost up to 3.5. with a 128gb ssd with a 1tb hard drive.With intel integrated Graphics. And 8 gbs of ram.
I'm not sure what the Intel version costed him, but the main differences between the Intel and AMD CPUs in these laptops are that you get more performance per dollar with the AMD CPUs and the AMD CPUs have much better integrated graphics.

I used the Windows 10 color calibration. Go to display settings, advanced display settings, color calibration. You can also try playing with the display settings in the Radeon software.

Yes. One stick can be upgraded with an 8gb stick or 16gb. I just might stay on a video of that when I get home from work!
can this laptop handle games like (fortnite, gta 5, wwe 2k20, etc...) also would you be able to use advance video editing software such as premiere pro, and sony vegas pro.
Yes to all that. It won't be a great experience, but it can get the job done on a tight budget.

Yeah I wouldn't get that. It wouldn't perform very well. This laptop is a lot more powerful in everything other than gaming. And even then an RX 460 isn't very good.

Like watching videos? Probably around 5 hours with the power saver settings

No I didn't experience that. It's around 6gb available but that's because the graphics uses 2gb for vram.

You can change the m.2 SSD for a better one. But you cannot add a second drive.
