How I Used QR Code Labels to Identify Stored Stuff

  • Here's a system that I use to create and print QR Code labels, and use my phone to figure out what I have stored in my plastic bins / containers. I know some of the containers are see-thru, but that's not the point, lol. :P
I resurrectionized my old label printer, to create the QR labels. I used my existing Google account to create the Google Sheet that I keep all of my inventory online and I used a QR app on my phone, to read the QR labels. I hope this system can help you also, in keeping track of where all your stuff is located.
If you have a different system that works for you, please feel free to share and/or comment!

Didn't expect to find a video of what im trying to do but using evernote instead of spreadsheet. Lol.
I got here coz im just searching for a good inkjet label printer. (yes.. Inkjet not thermal). Coz thermal sucks for long term labeling.
Good to see someone already done the same thing i was doing lol

Brother DK tapes last for long time. I have some printed four years ago. They turn yellow a bit but are still readable. So, you might just need to refresh some labels once a couple of years, but that would probably be well over five years period.
Of course, direct sunlight destroys them. But that applies to ink too.

Is there a way to do the reverse? Like if I was looking for an item, can I see what box is it in? Can you add pictures?

unsure if this is somehing that has been mentioned before but the p touch editor if you use he bar code feature then it will create the qr code for you so you can streamline this workkflow , but good video I will adapt to use something like this

Keep an eye on these thermo labels, they are fading over time, especially when exposed to sunlight.

Hello from New York City! Want to try this myself but there are technical problems with my label printer which can only print 12mm (0.5 inch) inches wide labels. Just wondering how to make super small QR codes that would fit on a Dymo LabelManager PNP label printer that can only print 12mm wide labels. The minimum QR size is a 1cm square. By any chance, do you know how many characters or how much data a 1cm square QR code can store? How short would a URL have to be to fit on the 1cm square QR code? Your inventory management idea described in this video is very impressive. Thank you for informative video. Have a good day.
