Good on ya Viv! I whole heartedly go along with this lifestyle - been doing it for a couple of years myself. Been there with the mortgage, loans for repairs, HP for the car etc etc etc. Never ever ever again!! I'm the happiest I've ever been now and I'm fast approaching retirement. My future will be living on a full state pension, selling this 'n' that and crafting to sell at fairs etc. Only delving into my tiny savings pot when a crisis occurs. Not had a holiday in seven years, which my friends can't come to terms with as they holiday two or three times a year - I love my life now and wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, it's hard sometimes trying to juggle this and that with a limited amount of money, but hey, like you said IF YOU DON'T NEED IT DON'T BUY IT. Simple as that. So good on ya girl 💚. Take care and stay happy X
Hello Vivi! Thank you for addressing seniors out there. Last year, we moved from a newly renovated home in a high crime area/disastrous state, to a small town in a good state. It took just about everything we had. We’re in a multi-level fixer home. It needs bits & bobs done…nothing major. It’s made us realize, fairly quickly, what matters most. My husband is having difficulties letting things go. Sentimental attachments. I am opposite. I could toss it all tomorrow. As you could guess, our conversations can be “lively”. He is 72 & I am 66. We are actually happier & a lot less stressed here. I’ll be having a knee replacement done in late October, so I’m bumping up my health a bit now. I know this is lengthy, but you really are a motivator & give encouragement to many. America is a shambles, now. We’re all bracing for November. (And that’s all I’ll say about politics.) We tackle each day as it comes, & are thankful for what we have & what we can do. We’ve started a new garden this year, too. You’re an inspiration Vivi! Kindest regards for your health from WY, USA.
Good on you lovely for getting on and doing it all! I hope your surgery gives you a whole new lease of life! Wishing you well for it and a good steady recovery. 😊
Not only is is your advice practical and “ tried and true” but the POSITIVE vibe you impart as well as your overwhelming love of life ,because of how you live, is just as important , if not more so, in helping our mental state too . Always a constant lift and encouraging words . More folks should care for others as you do ! Thanks, Viv! Marilyn
Great videos Vivi I’m getting more and more frugal every day I was determined not to spend more money on food I’ve cut my food bill by at least half Take care xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
This has to be the most relevant video for me. I have always been extremely practical. To the point of feeling uncomfortable when spending too much on wants. I tend to spend a little too much on my needs at times. My friends could never understand that I am completely happy having less than. For me being comfortably dressed in my modest home with enough gardening to help feed myself is all I want. No "rat race" keeping up with the latest trends for me.
Great interview Vivi! I love your comments at the end about the vacations. As a homebody, I keep my home comfortable and I never feel the need to 'vacate' it for any period of time.
Hiya Vivi, I thought the 2 part chat/visit at your flat was fab! I’ve been a subscriber for a few years, however you have grown in #s & I’m sure this interview has answered a lot about your journey so far, to those who have just popped in. Welcome friends. I too received a few answers to my questions for you. Truly believe that those of us whom have been likeminded will fair a bit better. It’s the same across the pond, prices, politics etc. blessings luv Ontario Canada Thankyou 🐝🇨🇦
Wholeheartedly agree with you, Vivi. As a worrier I've learned that all I can do is make sure I've done what I can, then buckle my seat belt and ride out the rest. If we stick together and support each other we'll get through! Great video, as always! ☺
I agree. I have crunched my own numbers and I am so used to cutting back, going without and improvising that I will get through this without any real stress. Having also been extremely careful over the years and stashing emergency funds, I should never have a real financial crisis.
Thank you for the lovely video. I am frugal by nature, but sometimes I just get tired of the constant monitoring a small budget. Anyway, thank you for your inspiration and wisdom!
Oh, Vivi, I was a rare antique bookseller for a decade. Oh, it was difficult to make a living towards the end of my shop. I did adore it. I sold out all my stock to mostly Universities. I collected rare and antique books here in America. I traveled all over the eastern seaboard collecting. Most folks just gave them to me. I did adore the stories behind every book also. They are like folks to me. I felt like I was finding my books forever homes. They were like children in many ways.
I grew up in late 50 and 60's , so its just about returning to this way of life. I have been living pretty much along those lines anyway with a few extra's and treats . The treats will still happen but will be more modest and simpler still as enjoyable
I enjoyed these 2 vids very much. Lots of good advice. So many don't know how to be frugal, and you are an expert. I grew up in the 50s and what you are doing was a way of life for most of us. One that we just continued, and now it is coming in very handy. Keep encouraging the newer ones to this way of life. Your positive attitude will do a lot of good.
Hello Viví, only found your channel today, started off with your part 1 video re: your wage free life. Thanks for sharing your approach, I like that you have developed other streams of income, and as much as you acknowledge the challenges that come with it - it is working for you, and you seems happy too. I am paying way more attention to my money, looking at where I can cut back and save more. It really is about prioritising what is important and of value to you. Aside from paying my mortgage, and bills - I am debt free and have been for a good few years now. It is a very comfortable place to be, however I could still be doing more.
The whole lease idea is madness... worried someone can't pay their loan of in 80yrs 🤨. Any way you have a great attitude and thanks for keeping it real. It's also getting tight in Australia.
Good for being positive Vivi, worrying wont change anything. I think we will be keeping warm sitting round the slow cooker this winter!!! And candles, lots of candles!!!
Great videos Vivi, and Jane. I was a teenager in the 70’s and only “the Pilot’s kids” went abroad regularly. I spent my summers at the local beach. Every day. Summer job: I watered their garden while they were away and discovered GROWING FOOD! Thanks!
After a hard day's work and a long drive back listening to all the doom and gloom. How relaxing and inspiring it is to sit back and watch your videos. And yes books , gardening and frugality feeds the soul. . 🙏 Thank you Viv .
Really enjoyed this 2 part video interview. You embrace most of the lifestyle choices I have and then some! I’m still working (part time) and love my job. We paid off our mortgage a few years ago so my husband was able to leave his very stressful unhealthy job and go self employed again. He works the same days I do so we can spend our free time doing what we enjoy. We have saved enough for our retirement eventually and our children will be ok. Now it’s about making the most of our time. We recently moved and downsized having a major clear out in the process. Charity shop donations gifting items to friends as well as selling at auction and car boot sale. The proceeds are in an account for our granddaughter now. Our needs are very simple and as we live on the coast holidays abroad are not necessary! Life is to be lived. This winter I shall be using my heated throw instead of turning up the central heating and hot water bottles. I’m pretty much in my dream job now but didn’t find the opportunity until my late 50’s. I think advice I heard once still rings true, nothing has to be irreversible or forever so go with your heart and take a leap of faith. It may mean making adjustments along the way but it’s worth it for quality of life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips 🙏🏻🤗💐
Vivi, I really really loved this 2 part chat!!!The Q and A was neat, very different, and the questions were spot on. Altho I now live the low income/fixed income life now, there often are times I need inspiration, and feeling that I am not alone in this. And reminded.."DO I REALLY NEED IT?"Also, I love tips and advice. Your channel is a wonderful part of my life now, I can't thank you enough!
Went through summer for keeps for next year. Much is too big ( I am not happy about this!) and will be given to hubs sister( which makes me feel better!). I am going to treat myself to an orchid for my newly painted bath. It has been a slow two year disaster recovery. Did some general charity shop drops as well. Working through the chore list to be prepared for next month’s surgery.
Enjoyed the video. Definitely not the time to let a wage disappear, but good planning while you have money coming in will build up savings to give you more choices later 👍
Not for the faint-hearted for sure but so encouraging to listen to you and how you have encouraged me to live with in my means🌹❣️🥰 need to know the difference between my needs and wants😏
For most of us who grew up in a throw away consumer society where spending was encouraged to keep the economy going, not spending is definitely going against the grain. I agree with you on that point. Clever marketing keeps us thinking we want what we don’t need. I also believe that everyone should have a livable income to make life less of a struggle for so many. I am one of the lucky ones and I know it! I can definitely see you as an ace sportscaster Vivi! 🌟🙂
"More worried for other people than about myself" Yup! I knew the stairs were a problem. Artificial knees here understand. But I didn't consider the lease situation. That is really a reason to leave. I don't know if there is anywhere in Canada that has that type of living arrangement. I mean for mobiles yes but not for sticks & bricks.
@@WhatVivididnext In the cities, Condominiums are sold like that. People only own the apartment but usually, they are high-end luxury apartments (I used to think for snotty people, lol). My mum used to own one in Edmonton, Alberta. I don't think she liked living there much.
Hi Vivi, love your videos; yes I live in Italy and here the prices of gas , electricity and food have doubled since February 2022 and now they are about to triple; very scary situation. Keep well. And thank you for your inspiration.

I am a bit disapointed that I won't be classed as wierd and odd if others come over to the bright side 😜😂!! I also get upset about other people 😔.If life gets hard concentrate on the small but important stuff. Things like the way the wind blows the trees, the raindrops hit the window. Bring it all down to the here and now. Look after your communities whatever they look like 👍
Really enjoyed this video vivi. I was relieved to hear you're still paying your national insurance contributions, you didn't mention it on your financial breakdown, so I thought you had overlooked it. Love your video, also follow shoestring Jane, have now subscribed to you. As one nurse to another may I recommend that you look into joining professional regulators and sitting on their fitness to practice boards? I am on several and it’s highly rewarding and intellectually stimulating work. It pays about £310+ a day and you can get block bookings of a week or so in a row and take on as much or as little as you want. I also Locum as a remote working telephone triage and assessment nurse and earn a very good rate doing that. I assume form what you said you’ve since left the profession and the register. Obviously demand is sky high and supply very short so rates of pay are very high and people are being encouraged away form retirement with fully supported rejoining training. Even if you just did a couple of vaccination shifts (which aren’t as well paid as telephone triage) a month (whcib clearly are with us to stay) pay is £25-30 an hour for that work. Re fitness to practice panel roles You don’t have to be a registrant nurse for this work, many panels take ‘lay adjudicator’ members. However, your background in nursing will serve you well in terms of competitiveness. If you’d like to have a chat about any of those roles that I Do, I’m very happy to talk to you about them. Please just reply to the comment and we can exchange details to discuss further. Just a thought, you seem extremely happy with your work, but if you’re looking into any diversification to beat the cost of living crisis I’m happy to be a sounding board for any fellow nurse!
Oh that's very interesting, thank you. Yes, I am very happy in this life but it might be useful to know more about the fitness to practice boards as with cost rising so scarily I may need another string to my bow!
The cost of living here in the US is going up astronomically too. I have a small container vegetable garden to help with produce which is nice because I'm vegetarian. I've stocked up on food for several years now so I've been able to side step some of the rising food expenses. The world has gone crazy.
U love your work, yay! Being debt free and owning your home is imperative isn't it, so that you can be secure no matter what lifestyle you choose. My son owns a unit but there aren’t leases here in Aus, he does pay corporate body fees for property repairs. I prefer my detached home with a big yard!
Thank you Caroline. I was so sorry to hear from Richard and Paul that your mum has recently died. I'm glad the you were able to be with her. XXXX Huge hugs to you and your sisters. XXX
When I worked for Sirdar/Phildar knitting samples, we were paid per gram weight of the yarn knitted.... If we knitted 2 ply items the pay was more than say knitting chunky or Aran... but it didn't matter how complex the pattern was and there was always a deadline. I was lucky I was a quick knitter and could polish off an aran in a few days... but 2 ply baby shawls with lacy patterns... OMG the time... it wasn't worth it. shhhhhhh... I have been an eccentric for years.... and now all my weird and wonderful ideas like flushing the loo with bathwater, and turning the fridge thermostat to low overnight when the door isn't getting opened ( saves power) all seem to be mainstream! Who is the crackpot now !!!😂😆
Yay for being crackpots!!!! I take my hat off to anyone who knits......such a beautiful skill and, my goodness, you must all have the patience of saints! So many hours in each garment. I adore hand-knitted things. 😊
I have thought about your dream job when you first announced your giving up your garden. Here goes....watching a elderly person nearby while the family has a night out. While there you are sitting in a big over stuffed chair sewing or mending .

Ugh, yes, it's a mad, mad world.......I'm so glad you have the space to grow some of your own!
Brilliant tips Vivi and thank you Jane 🌸
Cheers lovely. 😊
U love your work, yay! Being debt free and owning your home is imperative isn't it, so that you can be secure no matter what lifestyle you choose. My son owns a unit but there aren’t leases here in Aus, he does pay corporate body fees for property repairs. I prefer my detached home with a big yard!
Yay for a lovely detached place. 😊
good video
Thank you Caroline. I was so sorry to hear from Richard and Paul that your mum has recently died. I'm glad the you were able to be with her. XXXX Huge hugs to you and your sisters. XXX
@@WhatVivididnext thank you
Great video, so much so that I'm watching for the Second Time! I just caught something, no doubt you thought of this, But, Just In Case
Thank you lovely. No, I won't be able to withdraw any of that money unfortunately.
👍👍👍
Thank you lovely.
Wise words!, did you make your Ed cover?
Thank you lovely. The gorgeous crochet throw was made by my cousin.....I love it. 😊
These two videos have helped me understand what you meant by living without a wage. If you have a shop, I can’t find it. Can you post the link?
Link is above in the info.
Thank you Carolyn. Yes, as Grumpy Poo said, the link for the shop is in the 'read more' bit under the video title. 😊
Yay! I found it! Can’t get anything this month (No spend month) but…Christmas is coming! Will you ship to Birmingham in the UK?
@@carolynm9798 Yes, of course, thank you. 😀
If i were manager i would hire you! BTW where will your cat live???
Aww, thank you Charlyn! I don't have a cat.......the cats that visit me in the garden live in the nearby houses. 😊
I have thought about your dream job when you first announced your giving up your garden. Here goes....watching a elderly person nearby while the family has a night out. While there you are sitting in a big over stuffed chair sewing or mending .
Absolutely......but that's the sort of thing I do/have done as a volunteer. 😀
And oh yes....they share there garden harvest with you ! PERFECT ! ! ! 🤗
❤❤❤
Thank you lovely. 😊
We need to support women's sports which is under threat by you know what.. x
I'm a huge supporter. 😀

Thank you lovely. 😊
I have a question. Do you miss or wish you could attend more performances to get your thespian fix?
Hmmmmm......not really......it's lovely to go occasionally but I don't really miss it between times. 😊
That’s bed cover?
😉
Hah it looks like a wee witch on a broomstick in your hall 🤣😂
Hahaha....now I will see that too! 😉
