The origin of pointed arches, Iwans and Hemispherical domes lies in the Arsacid Parthian dynasty of Iran, and later the Sasanian Persian dynasty of Iran that succeeded the Parthians made huge improvements to it. Many remaining structures from the Sasanian era are in the Middle East, like the Arch of Ctesiphon (Iwan-e Khosrow), Ardashir Palace, Sarvestan Palace, and Adur Gushnasp Fire Temple.
Only recently discovered your channel. I love all your stuff and have learned a lot already. I have taken an interest in architecture because I am trying to create a 3D scene that depicts a promising vision of the future. While I was thinking about how buildings could look in the future, obviously I went on a bit of a journey, from sci-fi architectural concepts of the 70s and onwards, to thinking about good urban design, then sustainable materials, solarpunk aestehtics and so on. After a while I realized that a desirable future would include architecture people actually like to look at, so the old styles and traditional looking materials would feature prominently. Your channel is helping me appreciate them. I think we need a new eclectic style, a way to depict modern, sustainable architecture that looks as beautiful and enduring as these old buildings, instead of continuing to build glass, steel and concrete boxes that we all know will not last. Train stations, schools, midrise housing blocks, assembly halls / leisure centres that are meant to last 1000 years, with modern approaches to passive solar heating, on-site electricity generation built in, while also looking tasteful. It's a real challenge thinking it through, but your videos are helping.
Great to see you back and so glad you're keeping busy. I was just thinking of you a few days ago because I wanted to buy more of your s6 stuff. I'll check out etsy.
Outstanding - again! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and drawing talent on beautiful structures with historic explanations of details.
