  • In this episode I get a chance to let my inner electronic nerd out and build some cool automations to the already super impressive MAT filter skid from Fresh By Design.
    By using some PVC motorised ball valves (from baccarastore.com.au/)
    and some delay relay timers (from Ebay: www.ebay.com.au/itm/355190778246)
    I was able to automate the skimmer neck and cup cleaning functions on this gorgeous sump to make the best, even better.
    Question is, what to automate next???

    Awesome video Sam. Love the techie stuff - more like this please! Also love those MAT skid systems - it would be great if they could scale them down just a little to make them more suitable for the average reefer. As for using Apex - I don't know why anyone in Australia would use them given the obvious disdain and contempt they have for Aussie Reefers.

    That’s a super cool idea and now has me thinking how can I use some lawn irrigation gear to do the same thing. More content like this mate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      glad you enjoyed it! Just make sure you're using motorised ball valves not solenoids to get the full flow :)

    That is the coolest looking building in skimmer/sump i have ever seen! Looks very custom and very pricey! lol

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  5 месяцев назад

      It's actually very affordable considering it's size and build quality! Much cheaper than making the same size equipment out of home spec aquarium gear :)

    That was cool to watch Sam....I'm keen on getting familiar with those valves.....there will come a time [ that I'm dreading lol ] where I have to get in a tight spot to access one of my valves on my system....having something like this will be a big asset....I too appreciate off the shelf stuff....but I find more fun in making my mistakes lol

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  5 месяцев назад +1

      Glad you enjoyed it mate! They’re handy valves for sure, allow full flow but will switch off without power (whilst consuming next to no power while on)
      Always like making things and learning from mistakes over buying someone else’s mistake!

    Very nice, i do have a controller but this is very clever regardless. These modules are pretty cheap and interesting. Time to find some plastic nozzles and add RO wash down function to the skimmer!

    Very nice unit and your modification looks awesome! Do the automated ball valves have any inner workings, (hardware, parts) that could possibly rust??

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  5 месяцев назад +1

      These ball valves are completely PVC internals. You can buy cheaper ones that are not completely pvc, but obviously that is not what we wanted here :)

    You do know they make aquarium controllers ie.. Apex that could do this all for you. And be controlled remotely if needed.

      yeah I do and I also know that they don't make them for the Australian market, are super over priced and don't work as well as this stand alone device :)
