Zander was a dick but those scenes made him more creepy and it be weird to show Carmen have a interest in him as a rebound thinking Johnny is dead. I liked in the theatrical for Zander. yeah Zander dies but he atleast tried get some redemption by helping Carmen get off the ship and protecting Carmen till the end and giving her a last final chance to survive with the knife.
Watched this with the wife the other week, it was the first time shes seen it. First thing she commented on was how Dizzy was better Carmen 😂 Glad I married her. 😂
This film is like three movies in one. There's the front story, the aliens, the battles, the love triangle: blockbuster fun. There's the dark story behind: a totalitarian society, where the *only* way to have a place in society and basic human rights like having children is by bearing arms. All the teachers are mutilated veterans. A dystopian nightmare. (The intersection of anti-alien propaganda ads, is reminiscent of American war propaganda in WWII. That included propaganda Disney shorts, The Three Stooges shorts, etc.) The "growing" the narrator talks about is actually the dehumanizing of the characters. As the movie advances, they become killing machines. The end of the romance at the end means they don't love anything anymore, they don't care. The psychic guy was nice and compassionate, he became a torturer. The scene in which he proclaims the brain bug is afraid poses a question: are the aliens attacking, or defending themselves? Finally, the breaking of the fourth wall hints at all that we watched was a piece of militaristic propaganda, aimed at making us insensitive to death and cruelty, willing to applaud never-ending massacres of aliens who are never given a chance to communicate and explain themselves. Very interesting movie.
@@AKUJIVALDO It isn't even a parody. To parody something, you have to understanding it. Verhoeven didn't understand the libertarian society of the Terran Federation. He heard a friend say "service guarantees citizenship" and his brain jumped to "tHaTs LiKe ThE nAzIs." Somehow.
Starship Troopers is one of those rare movies that subtly shows humanity to be the real villain and the bugs as the victims. Many did not get this. The continual references to 30's Germany, Rico's hometown of Buenos Aires being a haven for Nazi war criminals after WW2, the continual propaganda. This movie was a brilliant take on the unjustified warring nature of humans.
Wow. You know just as little of the source material as Verhoeven. You don't even realize that literally nothing in this movie references Nazi Germany outside the uniform stylings. Also, Rico's hometown in the book is Buenas Aires, and it is NOT because of its connection to Nazism.

This is one of those movies titled after a book, that the screen play writers used about half a chapter from the book to "flavor" the movie. Obviously, they didn't actually read it. As a sci-fi movie it is good! It is not, however, Starship Troopers as the nook was written. They kept names and some places but failed in even a close proximity to the book. Again, as a sci-fi movie it was good.
The movie would've been terrible with all the cheesy love triangle silliness. Good choice. The theatrical cut is a bit psycho and cold-blooded which is why it's so good.
To also make you hate Zander more, there's a panel in the official comic book adaption of the movie that also came out in 1997, where while on the bridge of the Roger Young, Zander tells Carmen that the military encourages marriage within their flight teams.
Watched this movie a couple days ago. It's way ahead of its time. Rico/Carmen respecting each other as friends and no cliche romance ending, but also how the Sky Marshal was replaced by a black woman; not to mention the strong diversity representing the infantry cast with no racial/cultural stereotypes that I could think of, which we would have easily seen in any other movie of this genre. Kinda shows how the downfall of democracy lead to a strong melting pot under one banner.
These have to be the oldest f ing 18 year olds in existence Both Carmen and Xander were real total bastards Johnny should've gone with dizzy in the first place
Dizzy was by far the better woman. Carmen was a snob that toyed around with men’s emotions for fun. Diz was real and straight forward about her feelings. And she was way hotter.
I actually like her and have since I first saw the movie at age 13. To me, Dizzy was always the crazy stalker who was obsessed with the IDEA of Johnny Rico, but was never actually intetested in Rico the person. She proves this when her parting words are not "I love you," but rather, "at least I got to have you." Carmen was smart, strong-willed, and knew what she wanted in her life. She also cared about Rico as a person enough to try and discourage him from enlisting, which she KNEW was just an attempt to impress her and her father. It always makes me smile hearing Dizzy say "at least I got to have you," knowing that Carmen had him first. #Ibanezisbestgirl

I liked in the theatrical they stay true to their word with the 3 of them that they will always be friends and it shows how much Johnny has grown from the beginning of the movie to the end.
The uniforms used in the movie are surplus East German Border Guard gear.
In the book, the surprise twist was that Johnny Rico was FILIPINO.
It's like the trick question the teacher asks you to find out if you REALLY read the book (Verhoeven didn't).
This was such a great movie
Barney Stinson had the best disguise in starship troopers
He was legen............................................. DARY
This is one movie I will always pine for sequels and closure. It had so much to offer and I wanted it all. Such a waste of a prospective franchise.
Carmen in the book was no one's girl and treated all the boys with equal sweetness.
we're all Johny and that's why we love this movie
I love how happy and loving carmen was with a 6inch hole in her shoulder
this was like my 40K movie when i used to collect lol
It will take another generation to get Starship Troopers right on video.
Watched this with the wife the other week, it was the first time shes seen it.
First thing she commented on was how Dizzy was better Carmen 😂
Glad I married her. 😂
Good thing Dizzy got to be with Rico, otherwise her life would've been a raw deal 🤣
Funny I actually rewatched this movie just a few days ago. 😂
Same here!
That included propaganda Disney shorts, The Three Stooges shorts, etc.)
The "growing" the narrator talks about is actually the dehumanizing of the characters.
Except it is nothing but a parody of real book. Because "director" didn't like it as being "militaristic"... Ya reetrad, it is a book about war!
@@AKUJIVALDO Didn't know there were "real books" and "not-real books"...
@@AKUJIVALDO
It isn't even a parody.
Go away now. There was nothing subtle about the idiotic story.
Not to mention that Casper van Dien looks like he's coming directly out of the wet dream of a nazi geneticist.
It is dumbass "director" trying to make parody out of nice science fiction book.
He mostly failed.
It's amazing how much you can change a story and people think they know the base material that isn't anything close to what they watched.
Wow. You know just as little of the source material as Verhoeven. You don't even realize that literally nothing in this movie references Nazi Germany outside the uniform stylings. Also, Rico's hometown in the book is Buenas Aires, and it is NOT because of its connection to Nazism.
Removing those Xander scenes was a good call.
Why lol
@@aliamin2159 cause it didnt add to the story really, and added un needed conflict, this was mostly a cheesy action flick, it didnt need to show that Xander was a jerk, we already got that.
@@stuartspiker732 lol yeah that makes sense, didnt fit with the rest of the movie. Probably should’ve included the deleted scenes with carmen in the beginning though.
Zander slid into Carmen's DM's before Rico's body was even "cold" Lol
Carmen was the main villain making him wait and hooking up with that guy dizz is the true hero ❤❤❤ and I would have left her ass with the bug lol
I think it was pretty smart of them to cut the extra stuff between Xander and Carmen. They already implied there's tension there.
These scenes being removed should be considered crimes and whomever is responsible should be considered treason to the federation and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of Terran law. It adds SO much depth to the characters imo
Such a campy flick--but I love it.
Dam smart decision axing those scenes.
If Rico was supposed to be dumb, does that mean his dad bought his way into Harvard?
Mom cheated with Chad citizen instead of having child with nerd? LOL
I really loved this movie. The sequels didn't gave it justice. I hope they make a sequel reboot.
The movie would've been terrible with all the cheesy love triangle silliness. Good choice. The theatrical cut is a bit psycho and cold-blooded which is why it's so good.
Rico…you know what to do!
Zander got over Carmen and fell for Buffy 😆
they should release the deleted scenes, this would make the movie worth watching again
I tryed to like this movie so hard... to no avail.
The deleted scenes are on RUclips
and on the disk with the film there are them.I'm sure this guy knows it, but isn't his goal to "shine" in front of us, the ignorant!.. 😅
Kinda shows how the downfall of democracy lead to a strong melting pot under one banner.
holy carp.. those scenes would have made the movie so much better.
I didn't even know that "Starship Troopers" existed. Or maybe, I just forgot.
You are in for a treat, it is a fun movie to watch. 👍
@looper - Is there a link to the video available that the dialogue of the now older cast members was taken off of?
The deleted scenes would have given so much depth to the brain-dead version we got in the theater.
These have to be the oldest f ing 18 year olds in existence
Both Carmen and Xander were real total bastards
Johnny should've gone with dizzy in the first place
I still have a crush on Dizzy! ❤
Dizzy was by far the better woman. Carmen was a snob that toyed around with men’s emotions for fun. Diz was real and straight forward about her feelings. And she was way hotter.
@@AngusT.McCrakennaw, Carmen was better looking, but Dizzy was a keeper.
@@AKUJIVALDO I respectfully disagree. Diz was better looking.
@@AngusT.McCraken
Carmen has better ta ta’s
I wonder how many people realise the humans are the villains in this film?
Teat audiences HATED Carmen. Hence the cuts.
Test audiences might have hated her, but I guarantee that the teat audience liked her a lot!
Denise was outstanding at that time ...
I love this movie BUT it is definitely one movie that requires a remake closer to the book.
Nah. The book is too poltical to be interesting.
Fun fact: The actor that played Zander also played "Jeff" from Saved by the Bell, who Kelly dumped Zack for. He is THAT guy
Denise in her primes tops most of what we have in 2024 bro... damn
Would you like to know more?
Some Cinemas in Australia showed the uncut version.
I love this movie.
We need a good reboot 😔
