In this video, we will be visiting Kawagoe, a town located in Saitama Prefecture, to the north of Tokyo, roughly 30 minutes by train from Ikebukuro. Kawagoe is a popular day trip destination thanks to its traditional city centre, where many older buildings give it an ambience that resembles that of what Tokyo used to look like in historic days.

I feel like I'm there, especially because you don't have obnoxious music and rapid jump cuts but instead have nice long shots so we can all study details in the frame and hear the street sounds. I went here last summer. It was so good.
It`s just so nice to see all these people wearing masks and being respectful of each other and their city. It`s rather clean and people aren`t as loud and awful as in many other places. I`d be harassed and surrounded by annoying kids trying to make funny faces at the camera, or held up by people threatening to call the police on me for filming in public if I`d be walking around my city like that. And despite the current pandemic, most would rather be infected than caught wearing a mask.

As I watch your videos, I notice that everything is clean and perfect. Is that due to constant care and maintenance, or was there a lot of sprucing up in the run-up to the Olympics?
Japan is quite clean in general. But those areas, the ones popular among tourists, are usually very well maintained.
Japanese people are highly educated and civilized. When Umberto Ecco went to Tokyo, he gave an interview to the Guardian and said he was stunned by the number of people reading books, newspaper, manga on the train. I live here in Switzerland, the streets are clean , we have "constant care and maintenance " but we don’t have the cleanliness of Japan and we will never have because Japanese Culture is very much in advance to The European culture.
