I Am from meghalaya northeast india so our traditional wedding is different from the mainland traditional wedding . And plus in the other parts of india the bride have to leave their home to stay with their husbands but here its the total opposite the groom have to leave their home to stay with their wife as here it is a matrelinial society and we don't change our surname nor the husband but their children will adopt their mother's surname. 😊❤️

Mainland is used when you are in Andaman & Nicobar or Lakshadweep Islands, technically speaking.
And Miss, in the so called 'mainland' there are particular communities that follow the same Matrilineal family structure which particularly was popular in the Dakshina present day Kerala and surrounding areas. But it got changed through British invasions when they messed with all sections of society.
Even the Himalayan Pahadi people in various Bharat's states and also in Nepal used to follow this system. In some Pahadi areas a woman can have multiple husbands as well due to various reasons. But their weddings are similar though.
I understand in Meghalaya you have traditional Shamanic and Dharmic wedding styles that revolves around nature, am i right?

The 5 day wedding is not just for celebration, it also consists of lot of traditional parts which also has health benefits.
For example, henna is a cooling agent, it cools the body down, that's why the henna ceremony is done.
There's also the ceremony where turmeric paste us applied on bride and groom, it helps in boosting the immunity of bride and groom as they've to go through 5 days of non stop, tiring wedding.
There's also a ceremony where parents of the bride wash the feet of their daughter (bride), takes blessings from her (symbolising that their daughter is the goddess of that house) and they take the foot print off the bride on a cotton cloth.
Each and every ceremony in Indian Hindu wedding symbolises something.

we are not obligated to pay while attending a wedding in India. It's a choice and most millenials mention it in their wedding invites to not bring any gift or money. Moreover, as per my knowledge, paying money is not at all common compared to as gifting household items that would be required to build the newly-wedded couple's home. But again, I am from the northeast of India and that's how it is for us. No one will question or demean you for turning up empty handed or with a simple present at the wedding

Traditions of wedding in INDIA are different from state to state...
So our MAHARASHTRA is known for very unique type of rituals, traditions and customs..
We celebrate weddings for a week.. Marathi wed are very "simple & beautiful". We have lot of pre-wedding ceremonies like "Sakhar Puda"(engagement), Halad Chadhavane (turmeric rituals) Then we send "Lagn Patrika's" (Wedding Cards) to all known relatives and friends and send online invitations also... We have almost 3000 peoples in our weddings..
Then Saying out loud the seven wedding vows, the couple together encircles the holy fire seven times while performing the Marathi marriage ritual of "Saptapadi." then also lot of other customs and rituals we have to do.. In our culture we don't have first night right after wedding day.. first, couple have to go to all our holy temples from various regions of state then they came back home. There are 20 to 30 different rituals & customs going here in our weddings so even i don't know some of them... So we don't think to much just enjoy weddings..
In HINDUS 4 to 5 different types of weddings only in our state...so weddings are very diverse & beautiful in our country.

The wedding style differs from region to region
In north India we have pre wedding ceremonies like mehndi, sangeet, haldi , wedding, reception etc...
In South India it's a bit different
We have Engagement, ganesh puja before starting the preparation for wedding, mehndi, ceremony to bathe
ethe bride and groom (Mangalasnanam) , Haldi , gauri puja, and the actual ritualistic marriage .... and then the reception...
In the 19th century a wedding lasts 16 days . After years it is reduced to 7 ..
We can perform it as per our wish we can celebrate from 3 to 7 days

Indian weddings are traditionally multi-day affairs, and involve many intricate ceremonies, such as the painting of the hands and feet of the bride called a mehndi. ... The pre-wedding includes all the preparations and a party the night before where each side of the family can meet each other and dance and have fun..
Indian wedding is not only celebration ....its like a emotion to us....😀🙂

i am an indian i can tell that in indian wedding we give invitation cards to people we want to invite and then their is a whole process of 7 or 10 days and the ralatives comes 1 month before the wedding and enjoy that period. then in the last thing the wedding(last step of wedding) 3000 to 6000 people comes and give some money or gifts like crockery sets, pressure cookers and all tese stuffs and they enjoy the wedding by eating different kind of food (indian wedding contains fast food and so much other items) and by dancing and then the parents of bride or groom welcomes their guests

Each states wedding ceremony is different. I myself got confused when I attended a Maharashtrian wedding as in northern India (specifically in uttar pradesh) the occasions are different.
