    • 2-3 books
    • Mailing tube the poster came in
    • Clean, flat surface

      Lying the poster flat, with the good edge facing down. Get a lightly damp tea towel and lay it flat on top of the area you wish to remove the creases from. Apply a warm Iron over the top of the damp tea towel.

    Hi , any idea how to get a straight wavey line not a full on crease out of a art print. I am seeing that you iron them but these are expensive prints and I don't want to turn them into bonfire ash. You sound intelligent and like you know what your doing this method you are showing wouldn't work for the issue I have neither will a lot of weight pressed on them. Does the ironing method actually work well, any idea. Thanks attractive lady.

    • @kimknollart
      @kimknollart  3 года назад +1

      Try this: Turn your print face down on a clean surface so the backside is up. Using a spray bottle with distilled water in it, lightly spray the crease/dent. You don't want to spray too much that the water soaks through to the other side and ruins the print. Then lay something that's bigger than the size of your print on top of the print - usually something that will absorb the water like poster board, foam core board or mat board works great. Then pile a ton of heavy things on top of the area where you sprayed...I mean A LOT of heavy things to where there's 100 pounds on it. Let it sit like that for a few hours and it should have flattened out.

    • @stevenlupanko2983

      @@kimknollart water on a print sounds frightening but I will try it on a cheaper print first thanks. There is usually method in what sounds like madness. Cheers

    • @kimknollart
      @kimknollart  3 года назад +1

      @@stevenlupanko2983 Yes, good idea to try it on a cheaper print first :) I should have said it depends on what paper it was printed on too. Some fine art papers are more durable than others and can hold up to getting wet.

    • @HareDeLune
      @HareDeLune 3 года назад

      If a delicate touch is required, I would also advise to choose carefully the spray pattern used to apply the water.
      You will want to apply an even, fine mist to the entire surface. This should be done in one even pass to avoid water buildup. You will also want to apply from a distance of at least a foot above the surface for even coverage.
      Make sure there are no larger droplets in the spray that could cause potential damage.

    • @henryplumb7459
      @henryplumb7459 4 года назад +2

      My guess would be a similar principle, but weighted down more frequently, and possibly with a long flat object scrape it gently across the ripples to try flatten out. Sorry if this doesnt help much.

    • @AlexaMaz
      @AlexaMaz 4 года назад +1

      I’d recommend taking a lightly damp piece of paper towel and moistening the ripples, then use a clothing iron on a low heat setting. Make sure to keep a second piece of paper between the iron and poster tho so it’s not direct contact. Good luck!!

    Didn't work well for my case. I was shipped a 24X36 poster in about a 2 inch tube so as I started carefully tucking the poster under and rolling the opposite way- that caused bad creases in the bottom 3 inches of my poster unfortunately. I stopped and placed heavy books all over my poster on the table instead. Maybe my tube was too small for your method to work. Lesson learned.

    This does not take into account deformation laws. The tube has a smaller inside circumference than the outside. You are, effectively, exacting less force in the opposite direction when deformation laws require more force than was initially enacted upon the print inside the tube.

    32 years in art and I watch this video in horror. A number of creasing possibilities happened. This is fine for low value art....but this could make a $3000 heavy paper print lose hundreds of dollars of value. For high value prints, proper method depends on paper weight, diameter of tube, length of time in tube.
