Max Reger is one of the greatest Kings of the Organ. In my activity as a concert organist, I've always played a lot of Reger and Sigfrid Karg-Elert. It is a wonderful and very deep music.

very interesting to hear this piece played on a organ of this style. it works well, given this organ has so many different stops there is enough choice.
OMG What a formidable mixture of raffinment, virtuosic expressiveness and symphonic depth, wideth and grand gesture. For the very first time I hear here an 'organReger' really sublime. And inviting, not pushing off. Wow!

So genial, und wenn man sich am besten in die Lage des Komponisten versetzen möchte, muss man sich vor dem Konsum dieser Musik wohl besaufen :D. Ich finde im Ernst, dass Regers Musik dann sehr eingänglich ist :)
Quite a performance of a very demanding work!!! It truly is a worthy competitor to what Marc Jaquet did at the Jakobikirche in Lübeck (also available on RUclips - hitherto my reference recording of this work). Granted that the Fugue here is a tad too fast in my opinion (Jaquet's tempo feels just perfect), the whole is a very compelling performance. [Hardly any less magisterial is what Cor van Wageningen does with the Sauer-Orgel in the Berlin Lutheran Cathedral (Berliner Dom) - that particular organ-builder Wilhelm Sauer seems to have a unique affinity with Reger's organ music as evidenced with the Berliner Dom as well as the Thomaskirche in Leipzig and the (relatively-recently restored) Bremen Dom - and Mr. Wageningen also has not a little bit to say from a musical viewpoint (though at the very end, he seems too slow).] [ From what I could hear of Rosalinde Haas' performance (only the Fugue is currently available on RUclips), the sounds selected struck me as much too Baroque. Jaquet is definitely better; as to this one, the sound-palette selected is most convincing of the three known to this commenter as of 5 years ago (he'll have to reassess his opinion now...). However, Jaquet plays so beautifully as to prevail - just - over the Baroque leanings of the Lübeck organ. Now in Mr. Wageningen's Berlin recording plus Dewar's work here plus Jaquet's equally-fine work in Lübeck, one really has a trio (if Haas be included, then a quartet) of great recordings of this work to ponder - though anybody who really wants to be a real artist MUST do his own homework and think about what this piece means to him.] Now, let's find an equivalent performance on a good 'all-purpose' North American organ...

Warum nur wenige Organisten in Frankreich Orgelkompositionen von Reger spielen, erklärt sich ganz einfach: Die meisten Stücke sind sehr aufwendig und schwer zum Spielen. Nebst regerschen Musik gibt es aber auch ganz tolle französische Musik für Orgel, wie Werke von: Vierne, Dupre, Durufle und Messiaen u. a. ….
....spielen können. Aber in Frankreich sollten sich Organisten bewusst sein das gerade die dortigen Orgeln diese Werke mit am besten interpretieren können!
Wow such heavenly perfection of this colossal masterwork by Reger, on an appropriately colossal organ!! I can't tell if you used just the tubas, and or the chamades in your registration, but either way if not either of them, the registration you used still sounds perfect in my opinion.
@@AirchimeLTDproductions174 I believe I only used the chamades for the absolute climax at the very end (for the last four or five chords); what I didn’t use at all were the highest mixtures, which scream too much this music!

So hören die Tiefen der mehrstimmigen Musik eigentlich nie auf, sie scheinen sich gar nicht ganz ergründen zu wollen.
Ja, dem kann ich nur zustimmen, wirklich beeindruckend. Auch für mich ist Rosalinde Haas genial, und hier nun wieder ein ganz anderes Op. 127, aber eben auch ganz Reger!
Arguably Reger's most mature and richest organ work, though not necessarily the most difficult to learn or perform (that distinction probably goes to the Variations and Fugue opus 73 or the Phantasie and Fugue opus 57). Nonetheless, a superb choice for DMA students in lieu of the much-overplayed (and maybe technically harder) "Hallelujah Gott zu loben." Hopefully any who choose this will not end up flunking out and going instead for the quasi-doctoral D.Min. (which does not entitle the honorific "Doctor")
Die Orgel St. Eustache wurde von Van den Heuvel organs, Niederlande, gebaut und 1989 eingeweiht. Sie hat 101 Register, 8000 Pfeifen , 5 Manuale und Pedal .
Ein wenig steht für mich doch die Frage im Raum, weshalb nicht ein für Reger-opera adäquateres Instrument gewählt worden ist. Balazs Szabo wählt für op.135b die großartige Kuhn-Orgel, Sauer-Orgeln stehen auch zur Verfügung.......Diese Aufführung wirkt doch sehr brachial nach meinem Empfinden.
Ganz einfach, in Paris gibt es keine Sauer Orgel von geeignetem Format. Ich verstehe, dass die Musik nicht so am Ohr vorbeiströmt wie im Berliner Dom oder in St. Anton Zürich, aber ich sehe hier eher die Absicht, diese großartige Musik in Frankreich bekannter zu machen, stammt sie doch aus einer Zeit als die Länder stark verfeindet waren. Einige Stimmen sind tatsächlich gar nicht so weit entfernt von denen der Walcker Orgel in Annaberg-Buchholz. Vergleichen Sie gerne Mal die Aufnahme von dort. Statt des Cornetts wird dort zwar die Clarinette o.a. verwendet. Ich sehe dennoch eine klangliche Brücke, die die geographischen und politischen Grenzen verschwinden lässt.
Das muss es ja auch. Bei diesem Werk muss man die größten "Klopper" nehmen die es gibt. Und hier zeigt es sich einmal mehr das Orgeln , komplett französischen Klangbildes, dies am besten darbieten können. Okay, Inferno op 57 wäre auf diesem Instrument warscheinlich ein heilloses Durcheinander. Noch dramatischer wäre es wohl in der Notre Dame de Paris, die sich nun wirklich anhört, als bestünde sie nur aus Trompeten und spanischen Pfeifen, ........großartig! Ich hätte mir dieses Stück durchaus aber auch im Magdeburger Dom an der neuen Schuke vorstellen können.

I last heard this pipe organ in 1974. At that time it had a tinny sound but has since been upgraded or restored so it sound well-rounded now.
If 2020 had a soundtrack Max would have composed it
