    Stop scrolling if you play Tears of the Kingdom, because the Master Sword is BROKEN.
    And I don’t mean that in a good way, I mean it in a “it literally doesn’t function properly” way. Have you ever noticed that the first time you used your Master Sword, it lasted much longer? That’s because of how the fusion durability system works. The Master Sword has a durability of 40, and gains +25 when something is fused onto it. That’s a pretty hefty bonus, but you can’t keep fusing items onto a weapon to repair the weapon. It only works once!
    So here’s the problem: when the Master Sword runs out of energy, it goes into its dormant “recharging” state until it reaches 40. It then becomes usable again. So you would think, oh, just fuse something onto the weapon and it’ll go back to 65 again, right? Hahahaha no, of course it wouldn’t be that simple. Because they don’t reset the weapon properly to let you gain the +25 from fusing again. That +25 is forever lost, and cannot be regained. Don’t believe me? Break your Master Sword right now, and wait for it to recharge. Once you get it back, you’ll see the Master Sword didn’t get its full durability sparkle back.

      It is ridiculous that it's just as strong at the end as the opening scene when Zelda went through all that trouble to, not only repair, but further empower the master sword to outshine the gloom that easily broke it the first time. @@rareosts5752 Bro... From the hours I spent playing TOTK, from the start to Ganon.
      The Master Sword felt very pathetic against basic, and gloom-affected enemies.
      The damage on it feels waaaay too low, and fusing stuff to it felt like a waste because of how it quickly it breaks.
      Fusion, breaks the weapon as well VIA an unpatched bug...
      Once it breaks I'm stuck waiting 10:00 minutes, which wouldn't be so bad in BOTW.
      in TOTK it's the same but it due to how often it ended up breaking, it felt like I waited 10 hours for a headset to recharge only for it to die after 10 minutes of use time.
      My feelings toward the Master Sword went from:
      "Finally... I have the Master Sword! Oh boy! I can't wait to use this, I hope it'll serve me as a decent option to use against most enemies I come across, considering the sword after the Trials turned it into a fantastic, but op option! It should be more balanced here, I feel."

    The funny thing about the Master Sword is it's actually pretty good at being a Depths buster if you really do the numbers
    Since going at Gloomed enemies gives a 1.5× boost to base damage, if you have a Molduga Jaw fused to it and Bone Proficiency, it'll have a damage output of 138, or 207 if you have a Lv3 Attack Up effect from a meal
    For comparison, a Pristine, +10 Atk Up Royal Guard Claymore fused with a Molduga Jaw and Bone Prof. only dishes out 129 damage, and 194 with Lv3 Atk Up
    There are other things that can surpass that best case scenario of 207, of course, a Pristine Silver Longsword with the works [+10 Atk Up, Jaw, etc.] does 167, but get drenched and it flies up to 334, but if you want to be keeping that in the long term, you're going to be either constantly throwing down Splash Fruits or be constantly poking Sidon's Spirit for the funny bubble shield
    And the previous Royal Guard Claymore example gets up to 356 with Breaking Point in effect...but that also means it's about to break, and is probably better saved for when you mount a Lynel instead of proper combat
    Basically, if you're aiming to pick a lot of fights in the Depths, puttin' Fi to some work is pretty much one of your best options for it

    • @EonAegis
      @EonAegis  8 месяцев назад +7

      Unfortunately not entirely right! The Master Sword's bonus damage only applies to the base damage of the sword, so it only ever gives +15 to +30. It's not applied to the fused component at all! A better, cheap and readily available weapon would be Knight's Broadswords. While their base damage when rusted is obviously sucky, when it comes to the depths they're almost unmatched in versatility. You can walk around on 1 health while still taking hits due to how gloom damage works, and the low health doubler doubles both base and fuse attachment damage, so this obviously scales extremely well with any additional modifiers like attack up, bone proficiency and even +atk modifiers. Thanks to the Master Sword being bugged as well, the durability becomes very similar between the two, and you can carry several so there's no forced breaks.
      The Knight's Broadsword will start matching the Master Sword in the depths (45) at the following power levels:
      Rusted: Modifier / Fusion damage total of 31 (funnily enough, almost exactly Molduga Jaw)
      Pristine: Modifier / Fusion damage total of 9.
      Any modifier / fusion attachment combined value higher than this will rapidly cause the Master Sword to fall behind.

    I feel like the master sword is undervalued, depending on what stage of investment in the game you are at anyways. It obviously becomes obsolete if you dig into what's under the hood of the weapons system. Making Links unofficial career meticulously farming the best weapons, with the best multipliers, best fuse materials. This does indeed make any weapon that's not one of the 6 or so weapons that provide the best multipliers look like crap. Especially when you just so happen to also be aware that octorocks upgrade both a weapons power, durability and provides a bonus boost on top of all of this. This late game stuff aside. On a first time, pure and vanilla run of the game, I think it's pretty solid. It is at worst a durability sponge that's power is at worst barely viable late game, and at best is a respectable 80+ damage. Considering the fact that even pristine weapons do break permanently (unless you know about octorocks somehow with out googling it) at some point. It's role as an "infinite" weapon makes it really valuable in my untainted, and casual perspective.
    That's the tl:dr, if your interested as to why, well, keep reading.
    It's pretty valuable in the depths, even compared to Claymores and their potential power. Having a dependable and consistent 80+ power weapon down there is nothing to scoff at. Solid A tier weapon in the depths for sure. Maybe I am overvaluing it's potency. But the role of a durability sponge, I'd say it's power is more than respectable, and even usable against even the toughest opponents down in the depths. Which is more than a lot of weapons in the game can actually say, so despite being still easily out classed despite the 50% boost given to it. I'd still say it's a low A, high B tier choice down there.
    I don't like it in the over world, it's obviously not the greatest thanks to a lack of multipliers. The only thing going for it is that if your inventory isn't that big yet, it may consistently be your second or third best weapon to pick from. If you do have an inventory close to max though, then it's very easy to collect a pile of weapons over time that more than outclass the master sword. The various broadsword multipliers make it so thanks to lynel parts, as well as parts over 30 fuse power just make a fool of the master sword. Thanks to some combos literally making 2 master swords on top of your weapons base damage. It just gets worse if you dedicate yourself to going after pristine variants. Which is just depressing since technically it is the second strongest 1 handed weapon if multipliers didn't exist. I'd go B if it's early game, C once you dig into how to farm weapons effectively. This also hasn't even considered that even bad Claymores are not only better in terms of raw damage than most broadswords. But that some Claymores even go a bit higher than the master sword itself, with great multipliers to boot. So you can create a broken horde cleaner that so far out classes the master sword, if you have enough of these weapons you just never consider the master sword at all. In this specific load out, It quite literally is only a durability absorber against weaker enemies, even if you fuse stuff to it and try to make the most of its capabilities (which you still should, it just doesn't live up to the title "blade of evils bane").
    Spears just suck. So the only one that is even worth talking about, the light scale trident, actually also technically outclasses both well over 90% of any spear/fusion combination, as well as the master sword itself. Lynel parts fused to it while wet brings a whopping 154 power to work with. Even taking into account the spear having a negative multiplier that I couldn't calculate at this moment. I remember it's minimal enough that there is absolutely no way this thing's power is lower than say, 124. Which is still well above the maximum fuse power of an overworld master sword, and still has a fairly wide clearing over a depths boosted max fuse power master sword. Thankfully, the only other spear that is in the same ball park as the master sword is the Gerudo spear as far as I know. So there are thankfully less weapons that actually out class it than you'd think. Of course, this is in a casual run of the game anyways.
    Casually, it's pretty solid. Solidly cut above about 75%-80% of the game imo. Didn't really complain about how lame it actually is once you dig into the nitty gritty's until the final hours of the game. Since you become fully aware of what type of power is actually capable of you farm the right weapons and materials. As well as somehow become aware of the fact that Octo rocks boost power/durability on your own somehow.

    • @EonAegis
      @EonAegis  9 месяцев назад +6

      Solid read! I think the main problem with it is simply that the rest of the game's weaponry tends to outpace it. It's really *only* better than the earlygame sticks and stones, mostly because you can be grabbing hold onto what is effectively late to endgame gear right as you get the paraglider. There are just simply way too many really good weapons that are in fixed spawns around the world, and the Master Sword just doesn't keep up with that. I stumbled onto the Lynel Arena place early and simply made an effort to beat them up whenever I needed new weapons and bows, so very early on, the game's balance was broken in half because I could just use one of my many Savage Lynel Bows.
      The durability of the Master Sword would make that power trade and the role of durability sponge so much better... but it's bugged and doesn't work correctly, so it gets locked at about the same durability as any other fused weapon, which just kinda makes it "as good as" any other weapon in terms of durability sponging.
      If the argument is that it stops holding up in the mid to late game, the problem becomes that the sword *is usually found in the mid to late game* unless you actively seek it out. In which case, the same argument could be made for the weapons that just do really, really well. And even then this is still comparing the weapons against their own weapon class. If you add bows into the mix, the Master Sword is only not a waste of an inventory slot because it comes with a free one.
      TL;DR: I wouldn't be so harsh on the damn thing if it actually had the intended durability, because as is it's kinda weak and being weak also means you run out of durability faster.

    The one thing I would change is I think that it's durability should not be depleted until the item it's fused to breaks. This way, as you long you keep your master sword "fed", you can continue to use it unabated. Personally, I think that's the best compromise between wanting it to be designed with the weapon durability in mind, while also feeling like a special weapon of consequence in terms of the story and gameplay.

  • @michaelsleeman2443
    @michaelsleeman2443 9 месяцев назад +7

    Just a reminder to everyone about how it's weaker in TotK than in BotW: it's the only weapon that can reflect gloom energy blasts from Ganondorf (I'm assuming that they didn't put anything special in for the Amiibos or a glitch or something else, because that's the extent of my knowledge and i don't think other weapons could reflect, IDK, but unless I'm wrong, the Master Sword is the only one with that exclusive mechanic). Before it powered up, it couldn't do that, but now that it has that ability.
    Also the Master Sword not being the strongest sword in a Zelda game is nothing new. Biggoron Sword from Ocarina of Time was a reward for a sidequest that was stronger than the Master Sword. Heck, there were stronger weapons in BotW than the Master Sword fully powered, there's very few instances in the Zelda series where the base Master Sword is the Strongest sword in the game, it either gets upgraded, or gets a stronger replacement. Sometimes it's even optional, like, again, BotW.
    Outside of the bugged durability and strategies for weapon/ armor buff synergy, it's not a bad weapon, heck 30-60 base damage is still pretty good, plus whatever you decide to fuse to the blade. Also considering that it does come back, you could just have a free weapon that does 30 points of damage if you just need something to use instead of a very valuable weapon, and ten minutes isn't much time between the exploration and, you know, other weapons.
    Best weapon? No. Solid weapon with utility, significance, reliability, and grants an edge in difficult areas basically for free? Yeah. It's not everything, but I'm not asking for the most broken weapon, just something to get through the final boss, and it can do that well enough.

    • @EonAegis
      @EonAegis  9 месяцев назад +5

      I think for me it's just the fact that it *does* have the bugged durability. It just makes it a weapon I use to smack rocks. Master Pickaxe.
      Mostly because it's fine in terms of pure numbers, but then other weapons have multipliers. and then those become problems in the power scaling because the Master Sword is something you get mid to late game, when it's already massively outclassed. The Master Sword being outclassed is nothing new, but it's never outclassed by the time you get it, and that's moreso the issue for the weapon - It never gets its chance to shine. If it didn't have the bug, it actually would be much more special since it's over 2/3rds of its durability being gone, and it would be an increase of 25-30 compared to most RUSTED weapons in the game.
      Especially in the transition between ToTK and BotW, in BotW it was decently powerful. Outclassed, but good durability and always came back. With weapon power now mostly coming from the fuse, nearly every weapon is the same. The base of the Master Sword only adds like 15 at most, with no multipliers - and the weapon slot is no longer a free return because your weapons are married to your material inventory moreso than your weapon slots, and literally every enemy drops weaponry. It has its perks, but since the majority of its perks are carry-over from Breath of the Wild, these perks end up falling flat in Tears of the Kingdom. Again, mostly because it's best niche is hampered by a bug that they haven't fixed despite it having been found somewhat closely after release day.

    • @michaelsleeman2443
      @michaelsleeman2443 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@EonAegis I agree with your reasoning, and should they fix the bug then the Master Sword would be a much more viable weapon than what it is currently. I was just saying that it does have good use as a weapon even if it wasn't the most powerful fusion base in the game (even though admittedly, it's more optimal uses are more niche than the sheer attack stat back in BotW). Plus I wanted to defend how the lore of the Master Sword is upheld in gameplay, as it does have unique properties that make it useful.
      I still want to use a fully powered Master Sword like in BotW post Master Trials all the time.

Idk I havent tried the latter), complete Wild set, or any complete Legend set . Beam range is dependent on health . Any fused gains x2 dmg against miasma sub class . 40 durability but regains durability instantly if fighting demon dragon Gannon. If fighting him without the sword you get a cutscene in which the light dragon flies in bringing it to you . Additionally it glows much brighter blue against miasma and makes a notably different, much louder sound when drawn out against miasma subs .

    • @EonAegis
      @EonAegis  10 месяцев назад +4

      On its own, it holds up really well. The problem is in fusing, where most easily accessible items either catch up to or eclipse the master sword by simply hitting their bonus requirements. Take a knights broadsword for example - it's bonus will double it's damage, can have modifiers and fuse damage also gets doubled. When pristine or on a particularly good durability reroll, the knights broadsword has better durability as well due to the master sword suffering from a bug.
      The 45 and 60s are nice but one is only available in the depths, while the other is an edge case scenario.
      Our earlier example, the knights broadsword, is very easily abused in the depths as it only checks health, not gloom corruption, meaning that if you go down into the depths at 1 health, you can still take hits from monsters just fine since those deal damage in gloom corruption. So in a scenario in which the master sword is supposed to shine through, it still loses easily.

Like, despite what the story says, maybe in order to tap its absolute full potential, Link is required to revisit locations significant to the Hero of Time and attune himself to the sword, making it more potent, last longer, or hell, maybe at max just make it unbreakable and/or really high damage…
    Heck, in previous games, it could even deal *_double damage_* and fire projectiles so long as Link was at full health.
