Rewatching the conversation between Furina and Arlecchino after having finished Masquerade of the Guilty... damn, it hits different.

And she did saved the Fontaine in the end just as she have said. Just not in the way she thought, but still, fontaine is saved.

Furina wasn't just begging for her life when Arlecchino attacked her. She was also begging for the lives of the people of Fontaine because if she died, the nation dies with her.....

Arlecchino fun fact: She’s actually the SECOND Arlecchino in existence. She was an orphan from the house. The first Alecchino was a very cruel and abusive woman. The one we know fought her and overthrew her. She then took the title and took over the House of the Hearth.
If you were like me and thought that she was manipulating the kids of the House of the Hearth, she’s not! Although she still raise them as child soldiers, she truly do care for their health and safety. It was only under her that the children of the house were able to bond as found family.

There were hints that she has a different personality who is the actual Archon, and the Gnosis' whereabout was related to the Oratrice (even though the truth as revealed in Act 5 is a bit different). It's not hard at all to sympathize for Furina and give her a bit of faith; bwaap was just cruel.

@@Oscarus4250 even before act 5, players can already see that something was off about her. There were so many hints suggesting that Furina had a masterplan and was pretending to be carefree in the face of calamity.
Even now I’m still laughing at the fact that Fontaine Archon quest for 4.0 and 4.1 cutscenes ended with a cliffhanger with Childe.
Went to Fontaine for a vacation and he somehow ended up convicted for a crime he wasn’t directly involved in, and now he suddenly finds himself at the primordial sea with the main culprit for the rising sea levels.
Bro literally can’t catch a break. The one time he takes a vacation and he gets banished to the shadow realm fighting off a giant narwhal

I gotta admit,
I was skeptical of whether not I'd like Arlecchino (I know people were excited for her just based on her design but I like knowing their personality first and foremost) but so far she is _so much more_ put together and interesting compared to all the rest of the Harbingers we've met so far.
I can totally see how she might become playable in the near future. She's has such a clear direction and her connection to the HoH kids gives her this really strong, sympathetic motivation that feels surprisingly genuine. I didn't think she was going to be someone who truly cared about the kids in the orphanage, but if anything she seems *aggressively protective* of them, which would give her a strong personal mission if she ends up removing herself from the Fatui in some way a la Wanderer.
nah its all fake, she just sees the advantage of molding children into agents/assassins. She's protective because they are her assets and they will do everything she says as long as she acts as if she cares for them. After all who would give up their child soldiers after spending so long training them, thats just wasted resources.
Do not overlook she would have killed furina if she had the gnosis on her (in fact leaving her alive is basically adding to Furinas 500 years of torment, as if she needed the trauma of an attempted murder added to all of that). Hoyo thinks they can just tell us we should like the fatui whenever they want but they seem to forget that the horrible shit they've done doesn't just go away. Its absurd that an organization that allows itself to profit off civil war, turn people into human experiments/fuel, and regularly kills and kidnaps people should in any way be seen as "reasonable". They've done far too much harm to the world that a few good apples among them doesn't really make the group as a whole trustworthy (even the supposed good ones hoyo wants us to like, are still acting with ulterior motives.... and i shouldnt have to repeat this: [get the gnosis by any means, casualties are irrelevant]
Wanderer only left because he was lied to his whole life and wants revenge against the person that warped his perception of the world. I should also emphasize that he fully accepted he is a terrible person and cant take back what he did and refuses to call himself redeemable because he knows he never will be. That's why he works so well, because he doesn't pretend that his change in perspective magically fixed his mistakes. His efforts are more genuine because he accepts what he is and made his choice while carrying his sins.
Arlechinno could care less about right and wrong, she does as she see's fit and makes herself look like a good person so she gets what she wants. She's good at making it seem like her interests are in peoples favor but thats just her playing the long game so that others will easily give up what she wants for herself. Make friends with the enemy, solve the nations problems, all easy ways to earn favors so when the time comes they'll just hand it over.
AGAIN:
SHE. WAS. COMMITED. TO. KILLING. A. NATIONS. ARCHON. IF. IT. MEANT. GETTING. THE. GNOSIS.
and just to push it even harder, she did this, unprompted... no witnesses.
If she really cared so much about saving everyone why would she kill their god before the crisis was solved. I dont wanna hear crap that she would have solved the problem herself because daddy archie is so amazing and smart. She would have nothing to go on, either dooming the nation or leaving because again, she never cared to begin with. I'm amazed she's so talented at decieving people she's even duped the audience.
And despite all this people will simp because hoyo said so.

Personally, I don't think we have enough information on her internal thoughts to *confirm* one way or the other that she does or does not care about the kids; I *am* saying that, if she does end up leaving the Fatui, the kids and how she feels about them will likely be a strong driving reason.
I also never said she was a _good_ person? Like no shit the Fatui are evil, it's one of the reasons I'm flabbergasted at the idea that DOTTORE of all people is theorized to be playable one day, as I have no earthly clue how they could redeem him to a point where it'd be believable that the Traveler would let him within a mile of any of his friends.
And personally, I think it's not completely unbelievable that she'd want to kill Furina _and_ still think she's saving Fontaine? Everything about the worldbuilding so far has confirmed that the situation was getting worse, and no one knew the Archon's plan; it makes sense that some people would develop frustration and even anger that it felt like nothing was being done and that the Archon didn't actually care about them. We know better now, but for that point in the story, it's fairly cogent.
And do not mistake me for someone who *loves* Arlecchino. All I said is that she is more interesting than I expected her to be, and I am excited to see where her story goes.
If you want to screech like a banshee at simps, go find a different target, because it's not me.
@@michaelr3077 People forget that Childe and Scara call her "crazy" and "wolf in sheep clothing". She basically uses children in the orphanage (Stockholm syndrome anyone?) and she was ready to kill Furina - we don't know how many innocent people she has killed so far. Really, I'm fed up with Hoyo making us like Fatui. They are a terroristic organisation for me and we should be able to hunt down like dogs all of them, including harbingers.

The best part of this was DEFINITELY the secret investigatipn getting undermined by the revelation Wriothesly had been several steps ahead of them all along. Seeing Lyney, who we had a hard time accepting after he lied last time, genuinely panicking over his missing siblings and us freaking out along with him until we were on his side seeing the duke as an enemy for a bit, it was so stressful!!

The Fontaine story overall was great but the first half of the archon quest in Meropide was absolutely hellish filler that had pretty much no point. Reminds me of that part of the Liyue archon quest.
Hell, even the Fontaine act 5 quest started out with filler. The Fontaine arc was definitely a step down overall from Sumeru imo
To be fair, the entirety of the fortress is complete bullshit lore-wise and story-wise. Childe shouldn't even be there to begin with according to Fontaine's own laws.
Edit: As I'm watching this, the entirety of the Act within the fortress is mediocre at best in terms of actual writing. I get the feeling the writers were giving a list of info and events that were required to take place, shown the fortress itself, and were told to make something work. I can't say I would do any better in such a timeframe, but it was definitely a match made in hell.

So as far as i am aware, todays Fontaine is in general 3 nations and we have 3 representative for each
Furina, of course, is Representative of the entire nation
But Neuvilette would represent France
Navia represents Italy
Wriothesley represents Britain
Its kinda funny to see two biggest enemies in history being meshed into one nation (Britain and France)
Haven’t done the new story quest yet and heard it’s amazing, so watching this is a good refresher before doing it

Am i the only one SUPER confused by the fact the rumours Childe's lackeys spread actually stuck? The guy who told us about the first one even said hes been in Meropide for 16 years but he talked about something that cant have started being talked about more than a few months ago like it was an old legend that everyone believed and acted to avoid the same fate like an unspoken rule. The actual cause of the wierdness has to have been going on longer than Childe has been around, so why are these people whove been here for so long forgetting that the story of someone dissapearing at lunch or being unmatched in the ring started veery very recently in comparison??
Seriously, what is the timeline here, Childe cant have been in Meropide for THAT long but hes apparently been missing for several months, and the rumours had to get spread thoroughly enough to scare people away before he could leave, right?

After revisiting this after act 5 has come out, a lot of strange details are fully explained. Neuvilette directly telling us that he is the dragon sovereign is the most fitting way for him tbh, and it will be important in act 5.

Looking back at the events of the Archon quest I would say I was just only a little disappointed of how certain things went such as how to me there was a implication that there would be some kind of revolution of some sorts or at least a underground organization working against the government, that and I thought one of the main problems for Fontaine would be something about a energy crisis but in the end I was actually perfectly okay and happy of how everything turned out especially on what the story sought to explore mainly about the dealings with Celestia and all against Focalor and by extenstion with Furina's struggle. But I felt like some more things could be explored but I guess you can only do so much in a limited time frame for the Archon quest as a whole

Guys I have just realized, the way harbringers take gnosis is usually via reaching into Archon's chest and taking it out. We were this close 🤏 from Furina ending up impaled on Arlechino' arm...
And when she was begging for Arle not to kill her, she was not doing it just for her sake, but also for all of Fontaine 💔

Rewatching this, I just realise how subtle mihoyo wrote Arlecchino, the 'guest' in that country, being more in control than Furina, who is an archon and also the one RULING the country she visited
Arlecchino really just allowing the HOST to ate the confectionary, finishing their tea party like she's the one owning the entire place, and most of all, calling Furina incompetent in overcoming and preparing for the prophecy

Outside of just standing there and looking pretty, what did Clorinde ACTUALLY do to help keep back the Primordial Sea Water? Like Wriothesley I get since his Vision is Cryo which obviously he was using to freeze the water but what about Clorinde? Her vision is Electro and her main weapon seems to be a gun, so what the heck did she ACTUALLY do to help? Like what was her plan of contribution? I feel like Wriothesley did all the work until Neuvillette got there. The only thing note worthy that she did was shoot the control lever for the doors to close them in time but outside of that she just sorta stood there and I feel like unless she for some reason has Cryo bullets then she couldn't have done anything else afterwards.
She's there for moral support. Guhh.. 🙄
