    Sean, it has a drop plate cause it is an MTH engine. This is one of the tooling sets Lionel got from them.

    Wow! This is my favorite locomotive that Lionel has done in recent years . I love the fact that it’s an Ex MTH model . Absolutely love MTH and roster a lot of MTH locomotives and rolling stock . This total fantasy scheme is absolutely beautiful. Your so right in the sense that the silver just makes all the exquisite detail just come right out . Wish my train fund was a little bigger if I would have already pulled the trigger in this . Really enjoyed your deep dive on this model . Love your work Guy . Thanks for the in depth look at this great model .

    Sean we can see so much of your layout since you made the changes removing the lift bridge. Looks really good. Great camera angles.

    Its an ex MTH tooling, that's why it has curtains & A drop plate

    The layout's lookin' good Sean!
    Right, I concur with your whistle sound choice, it sounds the best at least to me! If you want to know what a real Greenbrier whistle sounded like do a RUclips search for C&O 614's excursion runs in the 1990s. Assuming 614 had the original whistle on it that'll answer your question.
    I have to agree with you on 21" passenger cars. Even though they're scale-sized (1/48) they just don't look "right" to me, if you get my meaning. Shorter passenger cars such as 18" or shorter are much more esthetically pleasing, in my opinion anyway.
    Fun video, thanks for posting!

    Awesome set, as you said the cars go great with the locomotive. Have you thought of doing the trucks on the passenger cars in a silver? I think it would match the locomotive even more and probably make the cars stick out even more. Very sharp set

    Very nice. Those cars are gorgeous. You are right, though, they are just too long for most layouts. A ten car set with locomotives will be almost twenty feet long. I'll stick with my AMT passenger cars. At 14" and a bit lower-slung and better looking than the post-war Super Speedliners, they look excellent behind a set of F3's. They are a much better fit, even on a larger layout. BTW, I love the Lightning pick-up. I'm a Ford guy and I have a couple of SVT vehicles. Keep up the great videos.

    Looks good Sean! Great looking engine but I wish that the yellow wasn’t this mustard type yellow that they chose. But the silver on the train is spot on🚂

      HAHA, It's not yellow, its Chessie Orange. That was a real Chessie color before C&O moved to the yellow scheme.

    Nice purchase Sean. I do have 2 questions for you. Does this engine have an ash pan glow. I couldn't tell when you were running it and you didn't mention anything about it. Also, do they make a 2 car add-on set for those MTH passenger cars? asking for a friend. lol.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Год назад +1

      Those cars 20-6549 were made almost 23 years ago, but they list 2 separate cars in the catalog description of the set. A Sleeper/Diner and a Full Vista. Not sure if they were ever made because they were not in the catalog with the set. What's funny is the catalog shows the set with a yellow stripe, but it actually is orange. No ashpan glow but has firebox glow.

    Is the engine trying to stall on the switches? The video makes it look that way.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Год назад +1

      Good Eye! Yes, it sparks, and something is shorting on the switches, so it stalls for a sec and then takes off again. Another person on OGR forum had the same issue. I'll have to dig into it (another video!). I really want to keep this one, so I'll have to fix it since the shop I bought it from does not have any more. Lionel is 0/3 on the last 3 engines I bought. Not sure what's happening with them. It's almost like they are coming from a new factory that doesn't know how to make trains.

    • @GlennFresch
      @GlennFresch Год назад

      @@seanstraindepot much of what I get these days seems to have issues. Whether it’s tinplate from years ago or recent production of any type from any factory. Not just O gauge, but even European makers of large scale. Only my G gauge LGB never seems to have any issues. It’s made in Hungary, not China or Vietnam (actually some of it is from China). But even with LGB there is a year or two where a lot of trains had QC issues.

    Please stop pronouncing Lima as lee-mah. The city in Ohio where the Lima Locomotive Works was located is pronounced LY-mə (lime-uh), like the Lima Bean. I grew up in Ohio and every Buckeye winces when they hear that.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Год назад

      I did not know how it was pronounced, because no one ever told me. Thanks!

      I will take the word of the fellow from Ohio on rhe pronunciation of Lima. Frankly I was never sure of it and for a time I had relatives living in Ohio. I have a friend Hobby Shop owner and Lionel dealer who completely agrees with you about 21" v 18" v 15" cars. Even with very wide radius curves the shorter cars look much better when operating.
