I work a lot with the Taiwanese. They don't want independence. They just want the current arrangement to stay as-is. They are in a comfortable spot right now. Free trade with the west and no serious threats from China (yet).

I went to Taiwan in 2019 and was very impressed with the place. It was very clean and the people were really nice. Their quality is very impressive.

They technically skip the 9mm, but who cares? Although, I do have a coworker that bought the Tekton wrenches up to 32mm (IIRC) and was upset they the 31mm….

Meh depends on what skipped. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my Kobalt tool set skipped the 14mm combination wrench. Like wtf???? Of the sizes to skip, wtaf???
They needed to go with professional grade Tools. Craftsman was the affordable professional grade tool. Name one mechanic that doesn’t have something craftsman..... so they need to do something like this if the craftsman name is to go forward, it has to remain an affordable professional grade tool. Period.

They have more than a lot of similarities to Facom tools, which are great quality. Been using them for years without issue. Now these are fairly priced and a 60$ tool does not have 40$ shipping and handling.
I use almost all craftsman tool as a professional school bus mechanic, been using them my whole life
I got some Craftsman tools that are over 20 years old but recently during the C thing, we had to buy two new tool boxes they are completely junk
I still have most of the Craftsman wrenches from my 1971 101 piece set.
This doesn’t feel like craftsman any longer. I was able to buy 99% of my craftsman tools directly from sears between 2017-18 and I must say I am happy I did. Got a lot of old stock usa made stuff and it’s way better than anything coming from Stanley

The warranty pisses me off. If my USA tool beaks it gets replaced by a China tool.
Try to find a Craftsman forged tool made in any other place than China. I'm not a China-hater. Taiwan makes quality products when you pay for proper tooling, spec the materials, use ISO certified manufacturers and not brokers, yadayada. Otherwise, it's made in mainland China and plated, packaged, and labeled Taiwan. Not Taipei. Made in USA with globally sourced parts. Pollution vs. manufacturing. Pick your poison.

I think the key to Craftsman's success lies with their ability to force their retailers to enforce a standard return policy that is 123 easy.
1 bring in the broken tool and lay it on the counter, 2 no questions asked, 3 the clerk hands you a replacement.
Not 1234 not worth my time. 1 register the purchase, 2 email a request for a return authorization # 3 mail off broken tool, 4 wait for possible denial of satisfactory result.
The success of Sears Craftsman tools was as much Sears customer service as the tools themselves.

Proto is a pita to get support for, i got a set with a 14mm instead of 7/16th and couldn't get the correct wrench, currently trying to get my s2000 box fixed the drawer lock broke after less then 3 months makes me want to switch to a husky i have sent pictures of the locking mechanism and it like flexes when i pull on the drawer with little force and pops open
Tried taking a swivel head 1/2 breaker in to Lowes for replace repair they turned me down. Wasn't purchased from Lowe's. Was glad they didn't after looking at their new Craftsman line. Ordered parts online and back in use.
IMO, Taiwan is on my list of countries that I'm equally comfortable buying from as the US. (Japan, Singapore, Canada, US, UK, Germany, Australia, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Israel, Taiwan, etc...) You pretty much know that you're getting decent quality when you're buying from those countries.
Looking thru various tool forums, the country of origin-COO sentiment and preference leans toward Taiwan tooling over China-produced.
In the end, it comes down to the Tooling manufacturer exhibiting and maintaining tight Quality Control during production. Apex Tool Grp-HQ USA has a factory branch in Taiwan (China as well) and produces Gearwrench, KD Tools, Allen, Crescent, Armstrong among it's various brands.

I've got quite a bit of Carlyle tools coming out of Taiwan and have nothing but good things to say about them. It's not US made but it's solid quality coming from somewhere that's not China. Can be a bit pricey at times but I'm fine with the extra cost for the performance I've been getting out of them.
Over 30 yrs , tools I've had from Taiwan were/are almost ALWAYS excellent tools.
The big thing for me will be how Craftsman handles their warranty going forward. I've began buying Craftsman tools back in the 70s. If one broke, you brought it back and they gave you a new one. In the years leading up to the demise of Sears warranty replacement was horrible. I have started to buy some of the HF Icon tools. Fit and finish is nice and, while I have not had any break yet, others have said that HF just replaces any broken tools, no questions asked and no receipt needed. If Lowes etc honor the warranty like a true lifetime warranty, then maybe I will go back. Thank you for doing the video!
Lowes replaced a 20 year torque wrench of mine. No questions asked. And it was an upgrade
Lowe's did the same for me today. I replaced a 1/2 drive ratchet. They just had me go get a new one off the shelf, and took my old one. No paperwork. Nothing. Just a quick swap. The way it should be.
Lowes is the new sears for craftsman.
I’ve replaced a number or craftsman sockets and extensions and ratchets at both Lowe’s and ace hardware with no recipe and no questions asked, didn’t even verify that the part was broken. Just literally took me at my word for it. Got an upgrade in all of them too.

As a 47 year mechanic, I hate about all internal head, allen head screws, bolts etc, due to most having too shallow a hole and thus rounding out........some replacement screws are made with deeper holes, so these new style wrenches are on my list to get..........yeah 47 years at it and STILL buying mew tools!!!!
As an old school Craftsman USA fan and collector, this was informative and interesting. Great job. I like the nod to the old V series USA manufactured tools from back in the day.

I haven't been a fan of the new Craftsman, but I Kinda gotta secretly admit that I have looked at that Craftsman 3000 Series tool boxes at least 10 times. ......I am glad to see Craftsman name being brought back to respectability.
If they brought the new dewalt line under craftsman as well, it would put their name really up there
I will never buy craftsman again. My local Lowe's is very, very picky about the warranty. If the serial # on the broken tool doesnt match the serial # on the tool they sell then its a not happening and they direct to the number for craftsman. Even if the broken tool and new tool are identical in every way if the serial# don't match Lowe's wont warranty the tool out. I sold all my craftsman tools and bought Pittsburgh and Icon. Harbor Freight has no issue honoring their warranty.
Had a couple of rachets I got In a gun metal gray tool set both rachets were defective I returned them for warranty,they told me to go pick new ones out that matched what I was turning in.When I told them they had no gun metal gray rachets said they couldn't help me I'd have t pick one that was close,told them I bought that kit on finish only well they went in my garbage and gave the rest of the kit away,done with craftsman and Lowes craftsman tool warranty.just a note about 4 to 6 Mos later gun metal rachets in stock,our sears store was like this before they closed warrant out a rachet you got a rebuilt one told my wife sears is dying
Mr Subaru, Lowes ran a small sale on the craftsman V wrenches, so spurred and got the 12pcs SAE craftsman V wrench set. Why simple I have owned the Facom 440 wrench set in metric for a good number of years. So now I look at it as if I have them is both measurement units. Conpairing the two set the thing that jumps out is the Craftsman's are shinier than the Facom and the feel is different, the Facom's feel like they are coated in Aluminum were the Craftsman feel more like the chrome on the Milwaukee wrenches. I would all most bet the wrenches are made in the same factory,. One more thing the Craftsman V SAE wrench set run from 1/4 to 15/16 but skips 13/16, but does come with 11/32, a some what odd thing to me.
Until Craftsman tools are made in the USA I will continue to purchase the best performing tools for my money. I don't know about you but when I purchase tools I am willing to pay more for tools made in the USA as long as it is a high-quality tool. Thanks for providing this review of the V series tools.

The FACOM 440XL-wrenches look identical to those MAC Precision torque wrenches you mentioned.
If you're on a budget just buy Tekton. Great tools, great warranty. No brainier.

Good luck walking into LOWES with a warranty problem. My experience is that if they don’t stock the exact part number you’re SOL. I own a lot of older craftsman stuff but I don’t think I’ll buy anymore after the last time I had a ratchet break. LOWES was no help and after a bunch of calls to craftsman I threw it out.
Its good to see some craftsman tools coming back. Of course they're part of the Stanley Black & Decker family and most likely it's a mimick of Mac Tools wrench set

Nice review. I was stubborn on buying anything Craftsman when they went to overseas manufacturing. But my son bought me the gunmetal long panel wrenches and they are really nice. When I saw the V series wrenches I was thinking of adding them to my toolbox. I definitely will now.
They look great and I love the case (for my job I work out of a tool bag so that matters a lot to me), however after switching to ratcheting box wrenches I could never switch back.
I thought they looked familiar, I have the Facom 440 wrenches. I had to replace most of my day to day kit quickly about 15 years ago when my van was broken into. I went with Facom as that was what I could get locally in a hurry. (I’m in the UK) Not sure if they were still made in France then, but it was before Stanley bought them out. I did grow to like the wrenches, and am still using them today, they’re tough enough but not up to Snap-on quality. (Much cheaper though!) Those screwdrivers and ratchets look very like Facom too. They are OK and again I’m still using them but bought Snap-on again when I could afford it. I much prefer Snap-on ratchets in particular. I’ve never seen Craftsman tools over here so I doubt we’ll see these either. In fact many brands you folks have don’t make it over here. It’s ages since I’ve seen a MAC van, there’s no Harbor Freight, no Matco, and sadly there’s very little British tool industry left either.

Interesting that they went with "V Series" rather than bring back the "Craftsman Pro" name.
Maybe they’re trying show it’s something new, rather than people think they’re being back the Pro series.
You probably already knew, but 'V Series' is a nod to the older manufactured USA made Craftsman tools coded with a 'V.' I think the throw back name is clever.
I have an abundance of old Craftsman wrenches that have served me well for over 20 years. If Ihad to buy a set today, I would NOT buy these, Tekton offers the same quality for less money. Right now these are $79 on Amazon but for $2 more you can get a 15 piece set of Tekton wrenches 8mm-22mm vs Craftsman's 12pieces 7,8,10-19mm. It'll cost you a lot more money to add those extra wrenches than $2.
I don’t think it’s going to sell well because people are still fixated on craftsman 30$ wrench sets and it’s not American made to pay more. Hopefully I’m wrong though hopefully craftsmen rebuilds themselves

Mate you can sealey ones but with 6 point box end and lock on feature for 56 euros
I could never go back to Craftsman tools. Sears had a big part in it but I’m happy with so many other alternatives where the warranty is just as good and honored without any issues.

Here in Germany Facom, Wera and KS- Tools - brandet bit ratchets are coming from the same assembly line somewhere in Taiwan. Handle shape is a little different but functional parts are identical and interchangable. Huge price difference. Quality is Ok.
LOVE THIS SET !!!! One skip is 9mm but still a perfect set . The size and feel of the wrenches are great. The case is a Major Plus........
Have many old craftsman tools form the 60's-70's. Most still going strong. Not a big fan of the "new" craftsman tools. Usually, when I need a replacement wrench/pliers/socket etc-I check out the local pawn shops, with their baskets of loose tools. I usually find old time craftsman stuff and get it cheap.
I have craftsman tools that I bought in 1975.

Unfortunately it's no as simple as going to lows for an exchange. I suggest doing a search on people trying to return craftsman to lows. I love the old craftsman tools and own many of them it's unfortunate what has happened to Sears.
Depends what store you go to and how you talk to them. I swapped a pair of craftsmen vice grips that was older then I am (by twice probaly) and they did it. They had no idea what to do at first but they got me a new tool swapped for warranty in about 15 20 minutes. Now I kinda wish I woulda just found a new spring and fixed that USA pair..but I honestly just wanted to see if lowes would warranty it. That said the manager didnt give me that warm and welcome feeling during the process..kinda got the feeling they were threating me like a theif😄
A lot of the older guys like to say that craftsman is trash now that most of the tools aren’t made in the usa but honestly they’re still pretty good. I’ve been using all of their hand tools for about a year and the sockets and ratcheting wrench’s are very good. The only things I have broken so far are the ratchets and adapters (used an impact on non impact adapters lol) and with a lifetime warranty I just go in and swap it and it’s good
I used craftsman pro wrenches for 4 years in a heavy diesel shop before I upgraded to Mac. I only did that because I needed tools for home.
Nah. The US made sockets and ratchets are so much better in craftsman.
When I used to work for a French Company, that was all we used for tools were the Facom Tools. You are right, these Craftsman look very similar!
Yep, I ordered the Facom’s, paid more and they look identical. Now I’m happy I returned them as warrantying them would of been a nightmare if ever needed. I just picked up the Craftsman (thanks to your review Mr.Subaru) and can exchange at a local Lowes if need be, I’m excited.

Mr. Subaru: did you ever do a vid on the (dim) headlight problem that seems to affect man, many Subarus? Our 2009 Outback suffers as well. Seems to be many blogs/discussions on line, but nothing definitive that we have found. Thanks for all your vids.

I wish that manufactures would quit with the raised lettering. For those who actually wipe down their tools after use the raised lettering etc just makes it harder to clean without adding anything to the tool.
Identical to the Mac set which are really nice wrenches. I reckon I'll buy these at some point down the road.

Only time can tell. I gotta put them in my hand for MY final analysis. Something has to happen cause the offering at Lowes blows. As far as horrible freight goes all Craftsman has to do is come to market with better quality tools, and the Icon buyers will move back to Craftsman.
I have the Mac and got my stool pushed in when i purchased them.....They are stepping up their game to keep up with Harbor Freight.
I have craftsman tools I purchased back in the 70s. Still going strong. I also have new craftsman tools and the new tools are just as good or better than the old ones. Why people put down new craftsman as junk I will never know.

Most of my hand tools are old Craftsman and Carlyle with a smattering of Pittsburgh, ICON, and Tekton sets, and a sprinkling of other names. I think of making more Craftsman purchases for nostalgia sakes, but I can’t being myself to do it. There is an apparent attempt to maintain some resemblance across the S/B&D tool family with small detail changes. I’m not all on board with S/B&D though.

Not buying anything from Craftsman. I was a strong supporter of the Craftsman brand (US made). Have a big set of old craftsman tools from the mid 90s. Purchased some power tools and found out that every new series they changed the batteries and stopped supporting their old series. This left me with tools I can’t get replacement batteries, I have to take the old batteries apart and replace the batteries. That’s all the money I will ever spend on Craftsman and their brand.
Taiwan is a great place for tools. China, not so much.
These might be what I get for my work wrench set. These look real good. I've wanted the MAC ones for a while but the Craftsman are more my budget.
They look like the Mac ones. The Mac wrenches are awesome oh my opinion. I was doing an alignment on a rusty Camry and the rear toe adjustment was solid. I was doing pull ups on the Mac wrench trying to loosen the jam nut
Tekton makes some tje best professional grade wrenches for the price.
Go with the Craftsman. The Mac Precision Torque set isn’t US made either. The Craftsman set is almost the same but for a much better price.
Do you want long or short wrenches? The Mac are long handle
Much rather buy the V-Series then icon. Have the metric and standard wrenches and hex sockets ordered. Estimated to be here Wednesday. Pretty excited.

I’ve always loved the precision torques but never had a reliable Mac guy so I went with flank drives. I have been thinking about a decent set of sae wrenches and I never thought I’d buy anything else from craftsman but would definitely look at these
From what I remember of Craftsman from the 1970's, they were never "Professional" grade tools and were intended to be good enough for homeowners. They were expected to break when put through their paces, but that was okay because they were backed by the once retail giant Sears lifetime warranty. It is good that Craftsman is trying to reinvent itself using different designs, but scale matters as does form and function. These are simply Not Long Enough to be useful, wrenches are their core are just fancy levers.
The Craftsman name means nothing if it isn't made in USA. There are already a lot of decent low cost choices made overseas.
Craftsman hasn't always been USA made. They've been manufactured by literally 10+ different manufacturers over the years.

Lifetime warranty? Remember kiddos, that means the life of the brand. Kinda like when I bought my first truck. I thought I would be smart about it and make my POS busted up GMC free to fix for life. I rebuilt the entire thing with "lifetime warranty" parts.
I'm still kickin', the truck still chugging away 350,000 miles later. Just not seeing any Chiefs Auto supply for replacement parts.
Autozone took over Chief auto parts back in the late 90's..I was working for Chiefs in Fort Worth Texas when the Autozone reps and managers came in and took over..there were 2 original Chief A-parts stores operating after Autozone moved in for maybe several years..may have been franchise owner type stores independant of the bigger chain..they were a good retail parts store..we still used actual books and telephone before the computer genertion came in and so-called modernized everything.

I'm seriously considering getting these for my tool bag, I run the Wright grip 2.0's for metric and Proto ASD for SAE. But for $75 for a decent set of wrenches, you can warranty them at Lowe's. That's a Win. The nearest Harbor Freight is over an hour away. I would like to see their ratchets rebuildable and the same Anti-slip design for the wrenches.
lowes is not easy to warranty./ i perfer tekton, send a picture and two days later a new tool.

Interesting to see those wrenches. I bought an 11” Craftsman ratchet and its design made me think of Captain Caveman’s club. Weird design. Added it to the collection anyway.
Do you feel like store bought brands are closing the gap on tool truck? Seems like the quality is extremely good and the warranty might be easier to take advantage of if you live by the big stores
As long as they have the lifetime warranty, does it really matter?
I mean think about it. Get what you need, and two of somethings (most likely to break) from harbor freight. It’s still cheaper.
If something breaks, get out your back up and swap the broken one on the way home, you’re still in business.

Craftsman is a killer of nothing. People can't seem to walk into a store to get their warranties. They have to jump through too many hoops just to get their warranties honored. Unlike just walking into a Harbor Freight store and having no hassle replacement. I would no longer buy a Craftsman tool unless I was in a pinch and just needed something quickly in a touch situation. I saw at the end of your video that a person can walk into Lowe's and get their warranty honored, but I have seen too many people saying they had problems doing that. That was over a year ago, so maybe things have changed, but until I see a lot of people verifying that the warranty issue has been fixed, I won't be buying Craftsman. Thanks for the video and cheers.
I have just got a set of these just under sealey name here in the uk mine are 6 point lock on ones that can undo 85% rounded off bolts

If you work on cars mostly, Craftman is more than enough.
But if you are doing high-pressure jobs over 1000 , Mac is the best 👌
What a difference from the made in China Craftsman wrenches also sold at Lowes. I wonder if they are discontinuing the legacy wrenches from the Sears days?
Good looking set I think I will pick up the sae. Great vid as always! But it isn’t a true no skip, they left out a 9mm… don’t think I have ever used a 9mm though for anything besides ammo 😂
got my new swivel head 3/8 extended handle ratchet, it's doin' just fine in the same drawer as the snap-mac ratchets that came before it!
Craftsman Tools need to be manufactured in the US, I have an assortment of name brand tools, Craftsman, Snap On, Mac, Matco, GearWrench just to name of few and I also have Harbor Freight tools as well, forgot my Stanley tools a lot of I bought at swap meets, some off the truck, some from pawn shops, and yard sales when I ask if they have hand tools for sale, sometimes from just guys trying to get rid of tools to make room for new ones
Good price! Might be an Icon killer for shorter wrenches.
