- I've been altering Precious Moments figurines into new characters using clay and paint. Sometimes this process involves removing pieces from the figurine. Many of you have asked how I remove them by cutting, grinding, or trimming the porcelain, so I'm here to answer that question.
I'll show you the two different types of pieces you might want to remove, and my three techniques for cutting porcelain, including the tools I use.
NOTE: PLEASE WEAR PROPER PPE WHEN CUTTING PORCELAIN:
- Safety goggles or glasses: amzn.to/4cgsn6x
- Cut-resistent gloves: amzn.to/3TEMVOC
- Respirator mask adequate for filtering bisque dust amzn.to/43lP2u5
ALSO REMEMBER: the cut/broken edges of porcelain can be very sharp!

A facebook group got me wanting to alter my mom's old ones but I have no idea where to start, your videos are so helpful!
Hi! “Altered Moments”, right? That’s our Facebook group and we’re glad it brought you here too! Glad the videos are helpful. Stay tuned, more to come!
She's at it again! Great tips!
Thanks so much, glad it was helpful!
Just what I needed! I'm looking forward to altering a piece that would require me to remove a cast bonnet (Calendar girl-December). Because of the way it wraps around the head, would you recommend combining both methods? The diamond wheel plus sanding? Thanks in advance!
That sounds like a great approach. Use the wheel to take off big chunks, but if you get nervous working close to the head, switch to the grinding stone so you get a smoother finish without nicks. Would love to see your finished piece -- make sure you post in our Facebook group!
Do you alter garden statues? I have one that I want to restore or alter.
I haven’t tried that before but sounds like a fun way for you to give it new life!
I just got the THE LORD IS YOUR LIGHT TO HAPPINESS but the girls candle broke off, Could you please tell me what kind of glue I should use to attach it back on?
Thank you :)
I use E6000 for most gluing but super glue works well too!
