    Louise and her good guy husband have been doing this for years. I tripped over her and her spouse two years ago after purchasing a Ninja foodi with 2 lids. I watched one after one video. Background on me: I am a CPA, I had a grandmother that taught me how to cook at 8 years old; when I was 16 I ran hospital kitchens on weekends, after high school worked in resorts as a chef. So I am not new to the culinary arts. Louise by training a nurse has become indispensable for me as a coach with the Ninja Foodi. Beyond that her skills here, her extraordinary soul to interact with people is remarkable. As you might imagine, I became a fan. This is another recipe for which I sought guidance. I have worked with barley since my Lithuanian grandmother taught me how to make it in basic form on a stove top at 8 years old. I am 76. Do the math. But I had no clue and some concerns about using the Ninja Foodi. Thanks to Louise, I have a plan to do tis recipe now.

    The apple is a wonderful addition. I have used this trick for years in soups and just thought I was the only person that liked it. It develops the broth with a flavor that is so delicious yet no one is able to guess it. I have also used a few raisins mashed up and added when adding the broth vegetables. I love creating recipes and going out of the box with foods. Thank you for the wonderful videos. I just got my Foodi and I have not used my oven in weeks haha 😂. I am obsessed.

    I'm not surprised the apple adds a flavour zing. I always add an apple to my butternut squash soup. Apples add a lot to a savoury dish.

    I can't express enough as to how wonderful this soup is. I have to say, I was a little leery about the apple, but Louise has never steered me wrong. This soup was wonderful and I may make a second batch today and freeze it. For you non mushroom lovers, I left them out and it did not seem to affect the outcome of the soup.

    Looks wonderful. Another game changer for flavor for this is to add a tablespoon of Marmite. It adds a wonderful undertone of flavor.

    Hi, I make Beef Barley soup in my pressure cooker. My Mother taught me how we use Oxtails as the Beef and the bones with Beef on them make a wonderful broth. Do you use Pearl Barley? We use Pearl Barley its the best. I will try this version I absolutely love Beef Barley Soup!! Thanks for sharing!! 😀👋💛

    I LOVE barley & especially beef barley soup! Can't wait to try this. I do like some chew in my barley so this will be great in my 6 qt instapot! I always use the celery leaves especially in taste salad, if I can do myself from just eating them lol that's where the best flavor is. I'll have to try the apple, I'm sure it would be fantastic!

    I am going to try this but as a vegan omit the beef. I love the apple addition. I cook curry soup with apple in it and it comes out amazing. Well done!

    I only have canned mushrooms. You've mentioned before that fresh mushrooms are like a sponge. What happens if you use canned mushrooms? This soup looks great by the way!

      You can use canned mushrooms, I would drain them though. The texture is a little different, but they should be fine.

    Apple huh? I will try. Beef barley was my Dad’s favorite. I wish he was here to make it for him. It’s even hot soup weather in Fl. I think I may make without grain, then add riced cauliflower and reheat.Also, Walmart and Aldi’s carry small grass fed grass finished boneless chuck roast for7.99/# (when in stock)
    You ARE the best!❤️

      If you make it without the barley, decrease your liquid by at least 2-3 cups.

    That soups looks yummy! I'm curious about the apple. What does it impart to the soup? Is it like adding a pinch of sugar to tomato based foods, or a few grains of salt to a cup of coffee? Thank you Louise.

    That new pot looks so convenient. Say you like softer veggies, and just want to add bigger ones from the beginning, do you think with a natural release the barley would be cooked through enough without the second cook time?

    Hi. I just used your corned beef recipe and it was great. I always soaked my barley overnight for soup. Is this unnecessary when pressure cooking?

    Looks yummy. Apple is an interesting addition. And I wonder how much adjustment (besides mutton instead of beef) this would take to emulate the much-missed Scotch Broth soup. Do you have a Scotch Broth recipe?

    What is the list prices on the new pressure cooker? Is it a Slow Cooker and Pressure Cooker together? Awesome video thanks for sharing. You are the best.

      I paid 249$USD in the US for the OL601 which is the one she used in the video. It does pressure cook, slow cook, air fry, saute, bake, sous vide, yogurt, dehydrate, and some new functions that combine steam and air fry or steam and bake. She has some links to products in the video information. It's an investment but replaces so many products for me. I hope this helps.

      @@TheSaltedPepper Hi, I'm wondering how did you plug the foodi on a kitchen island? The sticker on the cord warnings says don't plug down the side of the island outlet also don't use an extension cord. Putting it on the side counter with wall outlet is impossible for me because the cabniets are blocking the top area. Would appreciate if you have any suggestions.

    • @mengqihe1874
      @mengqihe1874 2 года назад

      @The Aussie Family I read that it can be dangerous if steam drips down through the cords and leaked into the socket. Since the cord is so short and it doesn't form a U shape when I plug under the couter, it does seem a bit unsafe to me. Pluging on extensions seems will have the reason of accidentally yanking off the power and such, and not all extension cords can handle almost 1800 watts power. I think thay also suggest not to move the machine while cooking, the food can spill or if pressure is not sealed it can pop out in all directions? Even not the pressure release, just the normal steam coming out, it still goes up quite high on mine. I stay as far as I could when I release that valve.

    Wait olive oil... you should really not be using it for cooking...
    Polyunsaturated oils like that oxidze very easily... it's very unhealthly to heat them up like that... you should cook with saturated fats such as lard/tallow for example
    They don't break down as badly
    Of course olive oil/vegtable oils are a lot healthier (when eaten fresh in a salad for exanple) but you should never cook with them!
    Seriously....

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  2 года назад

      I cook with olive oil all the time, but you can certainly use something else if you prefer.

      @@TheSaltedPepper just a suggestion
      It's pretty unhealthy
      So unless there's a spesific reason such as taste It's better (and quite cheaper) to use other things)
