  • Lisa Niemi Swayze, the widow of beloved actor Patrick Swayze, reflects on their loving marriage her work with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and moving on with new love. “It doesn’t conflict with the love I still have for Patrick. Just because somebody’s gone doesn’t mean you fall out of love,” she says.

My husband was diagnosed and given 6 months the longest. 8 years later he died from pancreatic cancer. He was being treated at Dana Farber in Boston Ma and they had specialists come in from other parts of the world because he was still alive. He was the sweetest man and helped everyone. We were lucky to have his funeral a week before covid hit and over 300 people came to his funeral. 3 years have past and it is like it happened just last week. When we had his funeral on a Sat and on Monday everything closed down. I went home to an empty house after the funeral and spent the next 2 years alone only talking to people on the phone. I feel it made me stronger and not relying on others.

I did the same after my husband died - from another disease. I'm an extrovert but I seemed to lose that after he passed. I wish I knew you, we traveled the same road for two years in our homes all alone but both of us needed that to emerge stronger. I am now back to "normal." Pretty much.

My 48 year old cousin was in the hospital with COVID last December. While there, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer that had already spread to his liver. Less than 2 weeks later, he was gone. Prior to his hospital stay, the only symptom he had was a stomachache at Thanksgiving which he, of course, chalked up to overeating. It was only while in hospital when his abdomen began to fill with fluid that he was diagnosed and went downhill quickly. My poor aunt and uncle were still trying to wrap their heads around losing their older son unexpectedly in an accident, they then learned their second son was terminally ill. Such horrific disease. Its great to see Lisa continuing to raise awareness.

Never forget the first time I saw him as the oldest brother ‘Darry’ to ‘Pony Boy’ in S.E. Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’ 🌟 What a breakthrough role for him and what a great cast 💖 I read all three of the books as a youngster, so it was awesome to see those poignant coming of age themes brought to life to well by the late Mr. Swayze, Tom Cruise, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, Leif Garrett, Rob Lowe , Ralph Macchio et al ~ Yet it was his role as Orry Main in ‘North and South’ adapted from the John Jakes novels, however, that was his most powerful role in my opinion.

Beverly, My heart breaks for you. back in 2011 , My Mom was diagnosed stage 4 and her oncologist said she had maybe 3 months. And he told her that if she was his mother , he advised against any treatment. As she would be miserable for 2 months. So she didn't take the treatment. And she was very happy for 2 and a half months. And the last 2 weeks after that she got great care from hospice when it got bad.

PanCan is the organization I always post for donations for my birthday on FB. I lost my mother in 1982 to the awful disease, 6 months after diagnosis. Her brother, my uncle, passed away a few years later from the same thing. There’s so so much work to be done to find better diagnostics and treatment for this insidious killer.

There has got to be something done to be able to get early detection for this cancer that is a death sentence. I found out on Valentine's Day that my mother had pancreatic cancer and she passed away a month later. It was already to late when we found out for anything to be done. So I want to thank everyone out there who gives and donates their time to pancreatic cancer research this is needed so badly. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

Patrick, despite not winning an Oscar, did win the hearts of millions of people... and that is worth more than any award, that is the greatest gift an artist can have, the love of people. He has it, that's why he will never be forgotten and his performances will always be remembered, RIP.
