In 2010 a production company built this fortified Viking village in south east Iceland for a movie. But unfortunately after building they never ended up using it. Several Icelandic Turf style buildings and even a ship was left to the harsh and unpredictable elements this country experiences. But unlike most movie sets this place was built to last! Everything is still standing after many years! And anyone can come and visit! So join us today and let’s see what’s left!

Not much wood for construction there. Likely had to truck it in by land or via water . Let's your mind wander...love those mountain slopes. Not much volcanic/seismic activity in that region maybe?

That’s not a “village” , but a farm. The longhouse is not a “town hall”, but the actual house where the people would eat, sleep and work in if it had ever been a real place. Some of the more valuable and important animals would also been eating and sleeping in there during the night and bad weather. The small house in the middle would have been a smoke house and the one to the side a granary and store house.

We drank water from a stream on one of the glaciers near where we lived in AK once. Most of the city water in Juneau, Ak, was glacier water.

What month were you there? The sun doesn't get very high in the sky so far north, especially in the winter. I lived in AK at Latitude 58, and it never got totally dark in the summer and we only had about 5-6 hours of sunlight in the winter, but Iceland is like Latitude 63 to 66! Wow.

They got around back then. She was taken from Dublin and sold to Olaf in Russia then they moved to Iceland.
