    I just recently broken out of hiding my mermaid side!! Just recently ordered a mahina monofin, after everyone has told me there’s no point to have one. Because I don’t really have anywhere to swim. But I answered with “I’ll wear it while watching tv”

    • @CourtneyMermaid

      Heck yeah!! Sometimes a mer has to do what a mer has to do! Plus you never know! Maybe one day you will find a great place to swim and then you will be prepared!

      I live in Colorado and there is really nowhere for me to swim unless it's summer time. I currently own 3 tails and several monofins. Sometimes I just wear it in bed or in the tub.

      That is like me. I want to get a mermaid tail but I live in the UK and there are not a lot of places that allow mermaid tails (or I don't know if they do). My mum always says "where would you use it?" I always want to say, I would just wear it in my room.

      @@-Earth-1610- you aren’t allowed, you might shatter the child’s dreams! But in all seriousness I take my tail off underwater, slip it into my swim bag and then get out, and if any children ask me why I’m not a mermaid I tell them that I changed into a human to visit a friend or something like that

    Watching this reminds me of the first time I attempted swimming in a mermaid tail. I went to my apartments pool really late at night in hopes that no one else would be there and I could try it for the first time without any awkward stares. But of course there was that ONE guy there, swimming by himself and he took one look and vacated 😆 Now I show up to the pool/beach and take over an entire section of the pool without caring who sees.

      I have the same feeling you felt before, and i really want to be a mermaid. I'm planning to order my first one. But I'm really shy so I'm scared that someone would see me in mermaid tail, luckily i have a really nice beach near me. And also i may be the first mermaid in my country and near countries also. That's nice to be the first one, but also scarier for me and there's no one to swim with in a mermaid tail so I'm not scared so much. I don't know what to do, so I'm watching this video.

    I went from being a fursuiter, covering myself up completely worrying that everyone is judging me, to being a mermaid. I’m super introverted, so I try to kinda hide my identity majority of the time, but with my parents nagging me that my tail will drown me (my full tail from fin is coming Wednesday hopefully) I’m a bit nervous. I’m a pretty strong swimmer, but my parents are still super worried about me.

    You guys make such a great team! I thoroughly enjoyed this video, not only because it's so full of great tips but also encouragement for new members of the mer-community and a lot of great stories about your own experiences. Sometimes I feel like the best thing mermaids and mermen can do is just to talk to each other and help each other realize that we're all in this amazing world TOGETHER and we grow stronger by sharing our stories instead of worrying what other people might think of it. Thanks Courtney and Faith! You guys BOTH rock!!!

    • @CourtneyMermaid

      Thank you for your encouraging words and for watching! It's really true. We as a community are stronger together than we are apart. I feel like sometimes people forget that. The best we can do, like you said, is communicate with others, sharing experiences and growing as a community.

    This collaboration was the best collab I have ever watched. The tips you two gave were spot on as well! My best in public moment was when people crowded out onto the little dock to see the mermaid and one guy shouted to me asking if I would show everyone how fast I could swim. I took off swimming as fast as I could and did a tail slap and everyone was loving it. Moments like that make me feel more confident for sure.

    The 1st time I went to the pool with my fin, I didn't feel relaxed. I thought "I am ridiculous", "it is so hard to swim", "people will laugh at me". Not at all: mermaid swim is very intuitive and natural, people were amazed to see a mermaid among them. I was welcome to swim there. Now I am a kind-of mascot.

    Boys like me love mermaids/mermen! So we know the difference. I have seen heaps of girls and even boys swimming around in mer tails, and I look at them because it's fascinating and you don't often see that in a public pool (or at least not where I live), some people (like me) have a weird resting face that looks like I could be judging someone, but I'm not, I'm just staring and thinking of how cool it is to be a mer. I'm getting my very first tail and monofin in a couple months as I am saving for one. I have done heaps of practice, and this video has helped. I understand people quite well, and if you sort of think of things like, everyone isn't so different from you in the way they look at people how stand out , then things will be easier, especially if you think positively about yourself. I can't wait to be a merman! It's just as okay for boys to wear tails as it is for girls, you just gotta listen to what both of these lovely ladies are saying, because they are totally right. 🧜🏻‍♂️🧜🏻‍♂️🧜🏻‍♂️🧜🏻‍♂️🧜🏻‍♂️🐡🐡

I only realized after getting my monofin that my public pool didn't allow those things, so I haven't been able to swim with my tail yet. I'm looking o buy paint for my tail very soon. I'm going with the permaset and I'm trying to figure out how much to buy. If I were to paint my tail all one color, how much should I buy? Is 1 liter enough?

    • @CourtneyMermaid
      @CourtneyMermaid  6 лет назад +5

      If you are only doing one solid colour you might be able to get away with it depending on your size. For me, I'm a tall girl, I use more paint than the average mer. I always prefer to be safe rather than sorry which is why I tend to buy extra to have on hand especially if I am mixing colours. It doesn't hurt you know? Then if you need to touch something up down the road you can. Again, I cannot say for use that 1 litre will be enough if you are just doing one solid colour. My guess is yes, but I don't want to tell you that and then have you run out. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

    • @CourtneyMermaid
      @CourtneyMermaid  6 лет назад +3

      I would recommend following your dreams as well as the points Faith and I talk about in this video. People are, more often than not, just worried about themselves and how they appear to others. So, like I said, though you may get some "weird looks" people really are more worried about what other people think than what they think about you. As long as you swim smart and safe and stay focused on yourself in your own head you will be fine!

    I love mermaiding, but it’s a bit harder now.
    The one pool that didn’t care about mermaid tails that was like 2 blocks from my house closed, so now I’m stuck with the pool that doesn’t even let you have a kick board, and forces you to jump off the diving board to the LEFT, not the RIGHT. Literally if you jump off on the right side, the lifeguards will walk al the way over and start going on a rant about how you can only jump to the left side.
    Yes, they are stupid.

    (sorry for spam comments, I'm so new to everything and I really enjoy your videos)
    Reminded me of today, when I took my little guppy to the beach. we havent got our tails yet but I usually swim in leggings, especially now that Ive lost a lot of weight, Ive gotten self conscious of those "flappy bits that I'm still working on" , but a tad more body confident in the way that I'm not wearing T-shirts over my bathing suits too.
    well today I saw a curvier girl wearing a tshirt and I thought "she doesn't need that on, she looks great"
    Then looked at myself and thought "wow. oof"
    I told her that if she took off her shirt, I'd take off my leggings. that she looked great.
    I hope I see her again when I have my tail. :)

    I got so nervous at this family coming up to me while I was still wiggling into the tail that I swam away with my shirt still on! ^w^; LOL after that I realized why some mermaids are more secretive getting into their tails!

    This was so cool! When I've been in my tail, I did attract attention but usually in a good way. If a kid is around I never break my mersona! They want to believe in the magic and so I respect that. I have a lot of folks ask questions but not in a bad way. Besides, I'm 53 (yeah that's me in the pic but I have my own mersona and I won't copy Ariel at my age. fine if anyone else wants to) and the questions people ask are usually very intelligent or generally fascinating. Usually, they want to swim with me and that's fine. I don't get nervous about it probably because at 53 I just plain stopped caring. I don't like men who try to pick me up. That's not cool figuratively or literally and it usually gets on my nerves especially when I'm working with kids. The fun thing about being nearly an AARP member is we really just don't care what people think anymore if we're in a tail. I did volunteer for a senior swim once and as a former nurse, you'd think nothing would weird me out. WARNING: men who are skinny, gray and really hairy in places where they shouldn't be, should NEVER wear a speedo! Especially a GOLD speedo! It's just not something you can un-see ever again! Ths is coming from a nurse who worked at a minor emergency center where just about everything came in to the office. EEEEEWWWW!!! Sorry, but if people can braid body hair that is over growing in odd places, I pray they reconsider putting mermaids, mermen and merlings through any of this. It is just so, so, very wrong!

    There are only certain pools in my area your allowed to wear full tails in, mostly the ones that don’t have deep ends. Some of the other pools let older people wear fabric ones without mono fins but it’s not as fun😔

    Thankyou so so much for this video - it helped me so much (particularly point 6!) when I was first getting started with mermaiding early last year and getting anxious about telling people about it! Now I quite regularly share mermaiding stuff to various places and don't really bother about what other people think! :)

    Most people are like OMG UR SO COOL when I'm swimming. There are always gonna be those people who are like, Oh, it's SO FAKE, but all you have to do is turn around, say, "what, did you think it was real? " then dive, splash them with your fluke, and swim away underwater.
    Also, captions turned the words faith on the bass into face on the face

    So... I know you probibly won't read this, but it'd be really helpful if you could help me. I've always wanted to be a mermaid, and once i discovered monofins i was SUPER exided. 4 years later, i FINally(pun intended) got one! I'm super exides to wear it. But, i was born with a disablility that made my ankle be bigger and not able to have itss full range. My fin works, but i'm kinda nervious to go to the pool. I need to practice the emergancy relese, but im pretty good at swimming ontherwise. My family thinks its wierd and say that ill drown. I know i won't, because ive practiced. What do i tell them? They might take it away from me if i even struggle in the slightest bit. Any advice?
    Thanks!

  • @emilywilson6692
    @emilywilson6692 5 лет назад +2

    What advice would you give to someone whose afraid of mermaiding in a pool because recently I called a pool asking if they allowed a mermaid tail and they said yes. But 2 days later while I was swimming someone saw me and told a manager who called the lifeguard on duty to tell me that it was not allowed due to safety reasons. So now I’m afraid because I felt horrible for basically getting in trouble for being misinformed and feeling like people might judge me for not caring about the rules when that is not the case.

      Emily this is an absolutely excellent question that I have personally dealt with on more than one unfortunate occasion. I hope you don't mind, but I would like to actually answer this in a video because I get this question a lot and I feel like it deserves some extra attention. Thank you for commenting! ♥
