I am the sinky, its just how I do haha. Surface dives and expelling a bit of air is generally how I "get down" as well as using heavier monofins. The Mahina isn't that floaty as far as I have found when its on me, just maybe a bit wider so it can be more awkward for people to use. Water resistance also has a lot to do with sinking. If you're trying to sink while in a horizontal position its going to be much harder than being in a vertical position. Those are my 2 cents!
I appreciate channel. There’s so much gatekeeping in the mermaid community and I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I can’t even do a photo shoot without the photographer telling me to empty my lungs before I go under which I’ve never done by the way, I have my own way of doing things where I keep a little bit of my air. It’s like it’s not a joy anymore everybody thinks they’re an expert. These tips actually work
I actually watched this video to try and help my little sister. A bit of background, we have very different body types, partially because she's 13 and I'm 20. I'm very curvy, in both the right and the wrong places, and I'm very, shall we say, buoyant. My little sister is a stick, and has no natural insulation or flotation on her whatsoever. She has an amazing dolphin kick, much better than mine, but while it's second nature for me when I dive down to the bottom, and I can stay there for a while, she's lucky if she can get deep enough that she's not splashing.
Body composition and tail composition also has a lot to do with your natural buoyancy. Nerdmaid is a very small person that helps too. I have noticed my buoyancy fluctuates with my muscle mass, since muscle is heavy.
This is true, I bought a mertailor fantasea fin too not only because it's pretty but because it cancels out the fact that my butt is a floatation device and I got tired of fighting it lol
I understand the suction effect that Nermaid described to you. It's easiest to notice if you stand up, feet to the bottom, and try to jump into a whaledive, but end up duckbutting because the monofin acts like a brake 😂.
Thank you, Courtney! I appreciate all your help in making my mermaid dreams become reality. I am going to try out these tips today in the pool using my Luna.
Thank you! I wish i saw this when i had tried out a tail. I can swim and stay underwater for 46 seconds but the tail would make me service much sooner then i wanted
When I use the mahina, it took awhile to first get used to it and stuff. But within about a few weeks I somehow managed to learn how to sink more with it, like it was natural so I didn’t really learn how to sink I just experimented with it until I learned how to sink more efficiently.
I’m kinda new to mermaiding I had my fist tail at 8 and got a new one recently know I got a Luna and I’m gonna make my own tail you inspired me so thank you for having a platform I love you
Im a very buoyant person so i got the mertailor fantasea fin works great to keep me from floating so i can actually work on my mermaiding tricks like kises and bubble rings
Good stuff! Yes, just keep pracitcing pracitcing practicing.... Someone once said water is the strongest stuff on earth, so no use fighting it. If we can get to the place where we are fluid and not thrashing about, we can control our movements better, sink and rise easier. Water kind of makes us tai chi mermaids...
I have experience with monofins and my friends are into mermaiding and i thought "holy crap, that looks like fun". So i heard that a fin fun tail is good for beginners because its pretty basic. Because as much as id love a big mertailor tail, i know myself and i need to get used to my legs being bound together while swimming and work with it. So im starting small and hopefully in about half a year or a year ill be used to it and have strengthened swimming skills (even if im more than proficient already). Im wayyyyyyy too anxious about something bad happening so im being overly cautious. Lol better safe than sorry. I love your videos!! And thank you for the safety tips!
I had a fin fun tail for yeeeeaaars before I got my mertailor fabric tail and big ol' 18lb fin lol I still love my fin fun it's a great beginning tail and it's pretty; as for you being nervous I'd say don't let it stress you too much- I actually enjoyed swimming more in the tail than I ever have with legs, it's not as constricting as it seems honestly thanks to the material they use and even with a finfun fin you can propel yourself pretty dang good lol
@@CourtneyMermaid oh wow, i wish i could but i just dont have the space for any projects like that, but now you've really inspired me. I love your content and hope to be as good a mermaid as you one day :)
My younger brother can hold his breath a long time. mostly from using drains as base during sharks and minnows. I don't got gills. I'm a mamalian mermaid. I breach like a shark and fall like a whale and that's probably not very graceful but damnit it's the best i can do. let me live
😭😭😭😭😭 I'm 95lbs at best in addition to just being a cursed amount of buoyant. It's almost like water is repelled at me trying to become one with it and tries to immediately rocket me back to the surface. I definitely need weights but first I need a diving class.
With me, I have had no problem sinking, if I exhale half of my air, I fall almost as fast as a brick does under water, so I think it's also got a lot to do with your diet and physique, like my brother, he just floats, even if he exhales all of his air, he still floats, so he just needs technique, if you float it isn't bad, there is so much things you can do that people like me cannot, so don't be ashamed, there is ways.
Heeeey its me again if u remember me lol id jist like to ask for some tips and tricks for a new fishy freak (lol i was called this when i was young be i was obsessed with fish and animals in general bit mainly fish)being a mermaid and what place is a good place to get a tail on a budget it be heplful thx and i hope to see more vids SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
Nerdmaid is a limpet????? Suction (lol)... also anyone with a natural blubber layer like me will be floaty... ergh. In scuba diving we learned to be neutrally buoyant... in a wetsuit... with weights... and a BC to inflate or deflate... but mainly you used your breath control... breathe in float up, breathe out sink. Definitely I sink with less than a whole lungful of air. I see this is about NOT using weights... but... A dive belt with light weights (enough to make you neutral) would work, but anyone here who is NOT a trained scuba or freediver should be wary of using weights: dive belts are designed to rip off in an instant, and meant to make you neutral not heavy. Let me tell you about the underwater tricycle race where I used 40 pounds in a swimming pool (in scuba gear). I could... not... surface... in... the... deep...end. I ditched the belt and hilariously dragged it back up the pool slope... do not do this at home. You should always be able to comfortably float at the surface.

OMG
literally was texting a friend about how i can't sink well and you posted this! thank you so much
I laughed aloud when you said don't use a monofin that floats. Whelp, I've failed that, my monofin is very buoyant.

My body is a very soft and curvy body. I float waaay too well😆

Omg I have been wanting to know how to do this thank you for helping me
Great video! I usually let out a little air to become neutrally buoyant or I keep moving quickly enough to keep myself down ♥️♥️♥️
This is great advice! Thanks Courtney!
Thank you for this video
6:33 that's a beautiful orca tail!!
I love your channel it's so inspiring! Keep up the great videos!! :)
Hey but how can I hold my breath for longer???🤣 Just kidding! I’m a free diver in training😂😂❤️ Love your videos!
HAHA! You very nearly had me! I was ready to unleash my mermaid wrath LOL!!

It also helps if your not 90% ice cream like me.
Merman Chatfish that’s a big mood
THANK YOUUUUUU!!!! I REALLY NEEDED THISSSS!!!!!!!
Thank you, mam! I float hardcore. I can be completely still, tail straight down, and I just float there. No treading water needed. Lol
Very helpful thank you
11th like 4th comment! Your amazing!❤️

Where do you get your tails from?
Love your vids
I make all of my mermaid tails myself. Thank you!
What If ur pool Is ground and not tile please explain??
The same principles apply.
Take handfuls of sand and grasp like a crab

Does the lightness apply to monofins used in FinFun, SunTails, and 2Tails monofins? Since those aren’t made of the same materials as Mahinas.
Mermaid Katie Those aren’t fins I use often, if ever so I wouldn’t be able to tell you for sure.
Those monofins are all floaty
Hi! Im wondering where you get your tails? I have a monofin but i cant find where to get good quality tails for the luna fin.
I make my tails myself. :)

Starting Level 0 hope i level up to 1 this year😅😂 your video helped me
Does it work in the sea?
Do finfun tail monofins float?
I was just about to ask this! Did you ever get an answer?

This is why I like to swim as a two tailed mermaid, there is a lot less trouble.
Does the finis shooter float? I haven't been able to get in the pool ye
I won't know until I have opportunity to try it. ;)

I don’t swim with a buddy but I do swim with super vision is that good enough
1:40 Did you mean to say hydrodynamic? 🧜♀️
YAS! HAHA! I never thought of that but you hit the nail on the head!

Do people with disabilities do mermaiding? For example I have epilepsy would I be okay to try mermaiding if I want
Yes, there are people with disabilities (including myself) who enjoy mermaiding but I would recommend talking to your healthcare provider first. ❤️
What tail do u use 😂I need to know loo
Happy 566 I make all my own tails. ;)
Courtney Mermaid ooooo your rlly good at making them I just got a fun fun one and I’m excited to use that one but yours is sooo cool 😯😊

Do you know anything about being a trans merman?
