I just bought a Chapin sprayer, however, it came with a warning that it can contain lead and DEHL. Is that true and would it be safe to water my vegetable garden with it? Thanks

99% of solutions you mix for use in a sprayer of any kind have a very short life once mixed, so there is no use in mixing more than you need and to keep stored in the sprayer weeks/months. Yes. it is more work to have to mix your solution every time you use a sprayer and then to clean it out after every use, but this is how you do it if you want your solutions to be most effective and if you want your equipment to last as long as possible.

What do you think about a STIHL pump sprayer? Would it be worth $71. I'm so frustrated because I've had so many bad pump sprayers. It is my understanding that if you want something to never break to buy a STIHL.

Never heard of D B Smith but checked them out as you were talking and I think I’ll order one to try! Thanks for introducing me to this brand. I have two Chapin and like them but both have stopped holding pressure even though I clean them and lubricate them. The kits to repair any sprayer cost almost as much as a sprayer! Seems like they want us to toss the old and buy new. I am going to try adding a valve to one if mine so I can add pressure that way instead. Have you done this to any if your sprayers?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  3 месяца назад

Honestly the Chapin turned out to be the best one in the long run. I still like the DB Smith but not as much as that Chapin.
I did a video on the fix for pressure loss but it was just about lubricating and replacing the seals. Those fixes have both always worked for me.

Love your review and advice. All the way Down Under, here in Australia. 4yrs later are you still using the same sprayers in the video, or have you upgraded? Would love to see a video comparing brand new to 1-2yr old sprayers. Cheers mate, keep up the good work with the videos you put out.
I can find the Ironton sprayer here but found the "Chapin" and "DB Smith" 1-gallon versions. Can't find Ironton here but have found the 'Chapin' 1gallon 20000 garden sprayer for roundabout 25$ USD (38$aud), The DB Smith Bleach/Chemical Sprayer 1gallon for 130$usd (195$aud). I Think I'm going to grab a Chapin.

I find that the 2 gal. sprayers you find that are made by Fountainhead Group and branded with either Roundup, Scotts or Ortho are very good quality for the price point ($25-30) and parts are not expensive. The downside is they have no pressure Release Valve. But they are solidly built, take less pumps to pressurize the tank and have good pressure for an inexpensive pump sprayer. However it is not rated for bleach, acids, sealers or any caustic substances.

Is there a seller that sells a flat 360 degree spray head? the typical spray head does not get to the underside/backside of the leaves and I have a terrible problem of leaf hopper on my grapes. the grapes grow against a fence so I can't get to the back side to spray for them. I saw a sprayer once that sprayed 360 deg, so you could stick the spray head behind the vines and it would spray all around the back side. Help!

I read lots of reviews on sprayers, almost all are made by same company and get mixed reviews. The Harbor Freight pump actually had better reviews! I bought one, have used it once now to spray deck sealer. Pumped up easily, had a nice wide funnel like top on it, and did not leak. Only thing I wish it had was a fan shaped spray, instead of a round stream. Price was only $14.99 for 2 gallon sprayer.

I have a 2 gal Decks & More pump sprayer and after about a year of use, it would no longer spray even under pressure. I sent the company an email through a contact form on their site and they sent out a replacement hose and handle without ever responding to me. I honestly thought they were just ignoring me or didn't get my message but I got it a couple weeks later. It works okay but I wouldn't recommend it or ever buy another. I recently bought a 1 gal from Southern States (not sure the brand but it was $10) and here we are a couple months later and water comes out through the top and sits in the funnel when under pressure because part of the pump broke that you tighten on top. That's why I'm here today, to find a better replacement. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!!

Hello. The number of pumps depends on how open the nozzle is and how much you are spraying out of it, so it is really hard to say. I have upgraded to the Chapin Pro 2 gallon which is much better. For a lawn, maybe a pull behind sprayer for a riding lawn mower would be best but I don't know how big your lawn is.

Practice out loud once before you video so that you are no trying to figure out what you are going to say while presenting. You had good information but you took way too long to present. One alternative is start out with the best top three or so then point out their attributes. Then list quickly the rest on order of performance. Practicing out loud ahead of time makes your content and you more credible. you could write down the order you are going to present and underneath each one list a couple of important points positive or negative. Think about them first, write them down in order, then practice out loud. Thanks.

I'm looking for a sprayer that can handle horticultural vinegar (at 30%), salt, and a bit of dish soap - for stubborn grass/weeds (trying to get away from Roundup and the like). Do you have a recommendation that can stand up to the above without corroding valves?

I use that same solution. The DB Smith handles it the best. Just rinse it out afterward.

They have a 2 gallon but the Chapin Pro 2 gallon is way better. Here is the link for that one: amzn.to/3GiaDYo. The Chapin screw top is way easier to manipulate, does not get stuck when using sticky substances, and has a much larger opening.

Back in 1988 I had bought a pressure wash franchise a year into it I fell into an opportunity where I needed a good heavy duty HVLP pump sprayer, "spray doctor" was by far the best. I could spray CWF all day long, clean it every time when finished and it lasted for years. Nothing has ever been better, not even close for the money, back then 18 $20 per unit. It was just built great. I'm thinking I must have pushed thousands of gallons of material through those Garden sprayers.

Thanks. I am moving into an apartment and am looking for a sprayer to clean my bike, water only. Do you think they would have enough force? A pressure washer has too much pressure, which damage bearings, removing the grease. Force required is like squeezing a water bottle really hard. Would a sprayer be able to do that? I clean my bikes once a week or two. I bike more than i drive and keep them in good condition, especially when muddy.

My concern is on the tips. Most 5 gallon backpack sprayers let you change the tips. I only need a 1 gallon for a lot of jobs though, and would prefer a fan tip. Most come with a circular spray tip that I can't replace with a teejet or comparable fan tip nozzle though.

the rubber o ring seal in the pump is usually the culprit. best to take the pump apart before you put it away for the season and put some petroleum jelly on the o ring and on the rubber part at the bottom of the pump as they do tend to dry out when not used regularly.
if you treat each sprayer with a little maintenance before putting them away for the winter they will last a lot longer.
