I'm freaking out. I love Regina. And when she whistles and clucks at the end of this song, I know why. She is a gift to me. I understand. I know why. Well, not really, but it's an incredible feeling to me.

Hard to believe she speaks Russian ...she'd have you convinced she was born somewhere in Brooklyn. Her voice has such intonation, nuance and clarity...as if from the gods.
Having the name Maria, I always get sick of people singing songs with my name in it, but never this one :) I love it

I love the way she flips the R in Maria.
Each time I listen to this song, I cannot even get out of my chair afterward. She melts me with her soothing voice that just penetrates into my deepest parts. I listen to so many other artists and I am so impressed by their huge talent. But every time I return back to listen to Regina I realize how great she really is. Just like Prince wrote and Sinéad O'Connor made popular, the words "Nothing Compares to You" might as well have been written about Regina.

She whispers to me secrets when we sneak out to the rooftops at night. She sees' into my fiction of a happy home and writes stories and whispers them to me so I can hold on.

Haha her intonations is actually the thing that makes you convinced that she was born in Russia. When she sings in Russian it immediately gets clear that she was born in Moscow and not somewhere in US, because she makes such intonations while singing in Russian which only a Russian person can make, non-Russian will never be able to sing that way in Russian. I'm not even speaking about the absence of the accent ( she doesn't have it while singing in Russian), but her Russian intonations matter

I actually find her voice quite elegant and beautiful, not to mention immaculate. mary herself would shed a tear at regina's beautiful voice, i'm sure. even though regina is jewish. this is a beautiful song!

It's weird how many non americans there are in NYC, though. There are so many accents in there. You can see it everywhere, even when you choose a language for buying a ticket in the subway it's not "english" \ "other languages" but tons of language buttons and English is just one of them.
They should change the "office" in the lyrics to "aw-ffice". She is so cute!

(not regina).. i can remember very little about it, but i remember finding it a wonderful song.. i forgot the title and i can't find it anywhere.. her voice has very much vibration and she sings a lot of strange words.. can anybody please tell me the name of the song?

Beyonce's song is based on Schubert's Ave Maria. I am not sure if Spektor's is based on any of the classical compositions by this title. I can't hear it, but I'm strictly an amateurish musician.

sorry to drag this- but I was just thinking, maybe she did the new yorker thing on the word "office" because of the whole image of new yorkers working in offices? (like in every possible movie about new york. A river of people in suits). Because it's really different, she doesn't always use this accent.
Also I wanted to apologise, I didn't mean to hint anything mean about new york. I'm proud to have some of my family in there for the last 11 generations. So no offence :)
