    Lyrics:
    Shake it up
    I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
    I hear in my mind
    All these voices
    I hear in my mind
    All of these words
    I hear in my mind
    All this music
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
    Well, it breaks my heart
Suppose I never ever met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
    Suppose you never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs
Just to break my own fall
    Just to break my fall
    Just to break my fall
    Just to break my fall
Break my fall, break my fall
All my friends say that of course it's
Gonna get better, gonna get better
    Better, better, better, better
    Better, better, better
    I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
    I hear in my mind
    All of these voices
    I hear in my mind
    All of these words
    I hear in mind
    All this music
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
    I hear in my mind
    All of these voices
    I hear in my mind
    All of these words
    I hear in my mind
    All of this music
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
    Breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart
    And it breaks my heart

Finally. After all these years, finally. I accidentally deleted all the songs from my iPod in 2008 and have been trying to remember this song ever since. All I could remember was uh, uh, uh uh. Which wasn't helpful in searching. Mentioned it to my fiancee tonight and sung that part to him and he immediately gave me her name. So good to finally know the song, and add it to my cell.

Pieces of my memory were obsessing over this song and I couldn’t remember it! I was not disappointed to have a listen again.

It was 2004. 23 years old me working at a car dealer. used to do 12 hour days, came home late one day, and sat down alone to eat my dinner and switched to VH1 or something and this video started playing. I was blown away as this was not the typical type of sound they played. I remember frantically running around to find a pen to write down the song and artist. went out the next day to buy the album, She was so fresh they didn't even have it in yet and had to order me a copy in. Begin to hope was such an amazing album.

I cannot describe in words how much this song means to me but I’ll try.
I listened to this song every night before bed when I was small, up till I was around 10-11 years old. I would beg to watch the music video (though I didn’t know it was called fidelity until a year ago - I just referred to it as Regina)
Now, as I’m getting close to 15 years old, I still listen to this song whenever I have trouble falling asleep. I age regress as a coping mechanism, and this song makes me feel immensely safe while in little space.
The odds of this being seen are very small, and it will likely get lost within the hundreds if not thousands of other comments thanking you, but I still feel the need to express how much you’ve done for me without even knowing.
Thank you. Thank you so so much. 💝

The song is pure genius the way she uses the lyrics and music to actually sing what the lyrics are conveying. As she sings “better” the pronunciation gets better with each repetition. Thats just one example and she does it throughout the song.

It’s been over a decade and I still haven’t grown tired of the artistry in this song and video. Most of it is in a room that is just black and white including the clothes of Regina and her significant other. This symbolizes her unwillingness to open up and let herself be vulnerable. But when she lets her locket (her heart) smash to the ground (open up, be vulnerable) there’s an outpouring of color and beauty. She is actually able to truly see her lover who she most likely saw as yet another guy who will eventually break her heart, which is probably why he was invisible throughout most of the video. But she finally allows herself to relish in her own joy and love.

Damn I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since I heard this album the first time. Also the year I graduated HS. When I hear this song it transports me back to my first summer after graduation and driving my buddies around in my white ‘97 Camry, going to the skatepark every day, and just having fun and trying to figure out who I was and what the world was really like. Thanks Regina for the soundtrack to my youth.

Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
    I hear in my mind
    All these voices
    I hear in my mind
    All of these words

    All this music

Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
    Suppose you never ever called

I'm so glad that even though I experienced a devestating break-up, I found and married someone who's absolutely incredible and loves me so much. This song still brings back good memories though. "I hear in my mind all all these voices. I hear in my mind all of these words. I hear in my mind all of this music, and it break my heart."
I feel like I finally just understood this. She can practically recite what everyone says to her about love and how she needs to let people in, and she has heard from songs and movies what love is supposed to be like, but she still struggles to let go and let people in and it breaks her heart that she can't stop being so guarded.
(You can gather some of that from the whole song, but those specific lines I didn't really get before.)

yes. But its okay, I kind of realize that life is like a painting, you can't erase the past, but you can paint over it until you complete your painting that is called life, it can turn into a master piece or can get destroyed with the future strokes. Some people are born with bigger canvases, allowing them to get away with mistakes or misfortunes. And some are born with a canvas too weak to last a day.

Rebecca, darling, why don't you do a reaction video on one of Regina's many fine songs, such as those on her "Live in London" album, a superlative live performance, e.g, "On the Radio", "Hotel Song", "Us", "Fidelity", "Eet", etc. Regina is actually not that well known outside of Narnia aficionados ("The Call"), and using your large RUclips viewership to share her outstanding talents (what a voice!!) would be a welcome addition to your many great reviews. People compare her to Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and even Joni Mitchell, but she stands solidly on her own, any influences notwithstanding.

So, nobody asked but I want to share my story with this song...
6 years ago or so, I fell in love with the movie _500 Days of Summer_ . It wasn't popular in my country in those times and I randomly discovered it, this movie was special for me somehow because nobody talked about it (then, it turned well-known around the world with Netflix). It was one of the best movies I had seen: the characters, the plot, the acting and of course, the soundtrack were fantastic. I loved _Sweet Resolution_ , _There is a light that never goes out_ , and the two Regina's songs _Hero_ and _Us_ .
I felt that Regina's voice was so pure. I wanted to know more of her work and then I discovered _Fidelity_ .
Talking more about the movie, I related to Summer. She was broke after her parents got divorced and she didn't believe in "real love". I was like her, my parents almost got divorced when I was 12 and I felt connected to this song when I first listened to it. I had stopped believing in love and I even had a necklace of a black heart since I was a kid! After this song, I started using it permanently. I had never said "I love you" to anyone before my exboyfriend because I didn't believe in love, in marriage or anything like it. This was my favourite song and I'm glad that I don't feel like that scared and insecure person anymore.
I'm not afraid of loving, I still hear those voices, but now I am not afraid of them. I've decided to be vulnerable again. It doesn't matter if you get hurt again while loving, it is part of living and if you're not loving then you're not living right.

Ouvia muito na infância (aos 7 anos de idade), achava que era uma simples história de amor. Hoje em dia vejo o quão forte é essa letra, o clipe e o sentimento que ela transmite.. Nostálgica demais

Was obsessed with this song for a few months in high school. Drove my friends crazy listening to it and singing it all the time. I can’t believe it’s been almost 14 years since then.

I sang this song for my senior spotlight performance at school when I was 18. 6 years later, at 24, I realized I'm a lesbian. Now when I watch this video and look back on those 6 intervening years, I see the contrast between the forced relationships I once had with ideas of men who loved ideas of me, and my relationship with my partner now, which is so human and full of color. I wish I could go back and tell the girl that chose to sing this song that she would love somebody fully someday. Keep singing love songs everyone--you may find what you've been missing...

I've never related to a comment more. I recently came out to myself and have been listening to this song in exactly the same way i think you have. it feels nice to have someone else articulate.
p.s don't listen to the idiot straight boy in the comments.

@Ben Turner So like where is this dimension you live in where homophobia has never existed and one youtube comment is an all encompassing identity, and how can I travel there

@Ben Turner I dunno, maybe experiencing shame and self consciousness was good for something. Otherwise I might've ended up lecturing strangers on the internet about how to magically vaporize their emotional baggage.

@Ben Turner I appreciate you saying that, to apologize takes courage. Some people get something from others' personal stories and some people don't, you're not obligated to, and I appreciate your recognition that one short sentimental little narrative doesn't tell you who I am, any more than your comments could tell us who you are. Stay safe yourself

one of the teachers at daycare would play this for us and we would even tell her to put it on. I spent YEARS looking for it only remembering "and it breaks my heart..." 😭 glad I found it again. Thanks Rachel! 🤍
