    I've been playing Ivan's games for over 10 years -- it's great to see him getting these hardback editions and getting the exposure the games deserve!

    I've been playing solo RPGs lately but what really bugged me about them was a lack of miniatures support. This seems to be a perfect alternative, and I'm super excited to dive into it.

    Great to see a 5Leagues campaign! Just a heads up, if Ranulf rolls a "dead" result, he gets Plot Armor as the Avatar, and has a random die chance to shrug off the wounds instead. IIRC, it's mentioned in the Avatar section of character creation. If that doesn't work, you can give him Silvertree Leaf or blow a Story Point for a reroll.

    I love this game. My brother and I played it all summer long last year. I believe this is the first time I played a game before you reviewed it. Usually I watch your video and then go out and purchase the game LOL!

    Really curious to see how well this works with two players, I don't necessarily need another war game for me but might pull the trigger if it looks fun for two people.

    The campaign systems seems pretty in-depth. It really does have that feeling of playing a computer RPG, but in tabletop mini format. I also did not expect combat to be so lethal, but then again, when you're a 1st LVL character in D&D, or in most computer games, you can get killed pretty easy by the weakest of enemies. So it kind of fits for a game that seems to be emulating that type of feel. On a side note, I really like the new Reaper Bones minis. They've come a long way since Reaper first introduce them. And you can't go wrong for the price.

    Oww o right like the look of this
    It's very questy
    The combat dueling is great, fighting defensively to hold off attackers or driving them back into waiting freinds

    Nice to see you play this! Your review convinced me to buy the rules and play for myself (since I don't really have a lot of people to play miniature games with).
    It's also interesting to see your campaign also has Gnawling Horde and Curse of War (I have Ruin Within as my other threat).

  • @Siygess

    The lethality of combat is the main reason this game has not had any table time for me; if it takes longer to set up than to play then it is a no-go LOL

    • @Siygess
      @Siygess Год назад

      Also I feel the combat system lends itself better to solo play than co-op; for example, if you played with two other people, I think the lack of agency each player has over their two characters will be a bit frustrating even if you allowed each player to have an avatar. I am looking forward to being proved wrong once we get to see the mission(s) with Jay!

    • @LumberingTroll
      @LumberingTroll Год назад +1

      @@Siygess There are rules in the book that allow for more than one wound, that would make it a bit less lethal, definitely worth playing.

      @@Siygess My friend and I play co-op and we operate as a committee, talking through all of our moves. The added brainpower also helps take the edge off the lethality as we bounce better ideas off each other.

    • @BetaRayBill32

      To me in 5P the deadly combat feels a bit at odds with the space opera setting. This seems to have a similar problem but in both I enjoy the rest of the game enough to offset that issue.

  • @jamesdickinson4718
    @jamesdickinson4718 Год назад +1

    The game is not as lethal as it looks at first. The basic tactic is to equip everyone with ranged weapons ASAP (slings only cost 1 gold) and hang back and shoot as many as possible as they come towards you. In melee you always stay close to get the outnumber combat bonus. And if you can get a height advantage to get counter strike, etc, then it gets easier. As someone else said, you level quite quickly, your gear improves and you get more powerful. Don’t be outnumbered; shoot them first. These are the golden rules

    • @tempusavatar
      @tempusavatar Год назад

      +1 to all of this. Slings and helmets are standard equipment for everyone. If you have a mystic, figure out what they are good at and utilize your spells well.
      My friend and I have had success employing a "designated blocker," with the best armor & parrying sword/shield and fighting defensively, and a follower providing buddy bonus, with shooters behind.

    • @tempusavatar
      @tempusavatar Год назад

      To add, you see this at 26 mins, except Ash makes a small error; Ash states at the end the combatants "stay locked in combat," combatants *never* stay locked in combat, after the 3rd exchange if both models are standing they each bounce back 1". Imagine if that models had a couple of shooters in behind.

    Ok I really hope there is more to this game, because this looked about as interesting as watching rice boil. Incredibly deadly combat which seems to side with the monsters too easily, very lack luster.....everything. Very simplistic rules set. This has been done before and better for sure.

      I wondered about this. If you buy it direct from Modiphius the postage is also exorbitant (£8 within the UK, as I recall). I was going to buy it anyway during a recent sale but it wasn’t included.

      It's a significantly longer book. Now, whether you think the additional content is worth it is up to you. I would say it's roughly equivalent to adding the first expansion into the 5P book.
