This whole list is misleading. You have _Song of the South_ in the thumbnail, but none of the films on the list are even close to being that controversial.
Everything on the list was controversial at the time of its release. From what I recall, Song of the South didn't exactly gain controversy until decades later.
I agree with you. When Song of the South premiered it drew a lot of controversy that sparked protesters and multiple organizations such as the NAACP to speak up against its portrayal of slavery and stereotypes.
@@gameoholic1994 you’re correct. The setting did take place during the reconstruction era. But the film itself didn’t make that clear, the company would make the statement. I meant to say that the criticism that the film was glorifying slavery, with the portrayal of the black characters.
@@PenntheDragon Yeah. Most of the controversy could've been avoided with one simple title card at the beginning of the movie that stated when it took place.

I remember watching "ET" at 8 years old, and being so freaked out by the government agents walking into the family's house. Also, Spielberg apparently hired real doctors to operate on ET, to add to the effect.
Et is one of my favorites as well. When it comes to it, I was about to get it for 30$ at universal studios. But I was able to find it cheap in a store in my area.
The thing with Ariel isn't that she's giving up her voice and home for romance. It's an extreme version of running away from a toxic homelife. Her father had not been showing that he cares about her, and in fact does the opposite by destroying her grotto and all of her possessions in it in the most brutal way. To her, his actions are saying that he will never accept this big part of who she is. That's when Ursula pounces, when Ariel is at her lowest and most vulnerable. Ariel had already wanted to experience the human world long before she first saw Eric. In that moment, when the wounds are fresh, taking Ursula's deal seems too good to pass up.
Tbh, I also saw this more than a simple "I WANNA MANNNNN" when I rewatched it as an adult. After learning about toxic parenting and stuff that a child may not understand (like I didn't even get the whole "body language" thing Ursula did during her song; I just liked the song!), I definitely saw this movie in a different light. It wasn't all about having a man; Ariel genuinely had this curiosity way before Eric even came into her life. She already had human objects, and it was after seeing Eric where she got the statue - and THAT is when Triton came and basically became the straw that broke the camel's back. I wouldn't even say she did it out of revenge; She just saw this as "he'll never understand" after trying to ask, reason, beg, plea, and the like, and did what she thought at the time was best for her own interest. The man was now just an added goal, rather than just simply being human and seeing what it's like on land.

Between the language in the club and the language at the dinner table I was a bit off guard. Don't get me wrong it's still funny but perhaps not for young kids
Here's the thing about "Pocahontas," if you want a 100% historically accurate telling of the real-life Pocahontas' story...that's what *_DOCUMENTARIES_* are for. Disney's film *_ISN'T_* a documentary, and it was *_never_* intended to be one either. It was intended right from the get-go to be a *_fictionalized_* depiction about a real-life historical figure. So _why_ condemn the film for not being 100% historically accurate when that was _never_ its intention in the _first_ place? That makes *zero* sense to me and is completely *_STUPID._* Don Bluth's "Anastasia" was released a couple years after "Pocahontas" and to the best of my knowledge, it *never* received controversy for not being 100% historically accurate, taking into account that _similarly_ to "Pocahontas," it too told a *_fictionalized_* depiction about a real-life historical figure.
"Song of the South" wasn't even on here...why is it the thumbnail?? also, I know it's historically inaccurate, but "Pocahontas" was one of my favorite movies as a kid...and it still is too
The Harry Potter hate is pretty stupid. I'm a muslim and I acknowledge it to be a fictional story and these religious groups are mad at it's existance. Iike, chill.😂😂
People who hate the franchise for the author, I understand, but definitely not for the content in the story. It's a a fictional world, it doesn't need to be grounded in reality
@@CageBlack1443 Yeah, I get hating the author, but otherwise I just see a magical world with creatures and bad guys like the others. xD Though I don't know if any of the others have castles with changing ceilings.

I just grew tired of it due to the memes. xD I used to watch Shrek and Shrek 2 quite a bit, but ultimately just got tired of 'em, and then meme culture just came in full blast. I guess I also just plain ole "grew up" as well, yet I still sometimes laugh at potty jokes in other family films. :P I'm still 5 mentally. Sometimes 10.

The controversial comes from Those who read the book and saying its not a faithful adaptation, most of all Disney animated movies aren’t faithful to the original book so are the controversial start to complain about everything Disney movie?
Song of the South should've made that list too! The racist stereotypes were at their worst in it, so much that it's banned from official stores everywhere!
I'm kinda like I dislike how some critics view Ariel. Okay, I do have a critism towards The Little Mermaid which is indeed one of my favorite animated movie, especially how Ariel did, her goal of getting a chance for naive romance is her second rated goal. Her actual main goal is to connect the merpeople with humans and get peace between them.
What was controversial about Willy Wonka in my view is that it detracted from the book so much that Roald Dahl hated it, and it was advertising for the RL Wonka bars.
I remember knowing the one from The Lion King, one from Harry Potter franchise and E.T The Extra Terrestrial. Others I could see the theories behind them. Pocahontas I don’t remember much. Home Alone, The Lion King, Aladdin Shrek and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory are certainly nostalgic for me.
4. I bet this is where they got the idea for Frozen, to correct the mistakes Ariel made and see the consequence for loving too quick and irresponsibly.
@SirsasthNigam Robin Of Sherwood was made in the early '80's and had a saracen, named Nasir, and the later production of Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves, thought that the saracen was fact, what they didn't realise was that people who worked on Robin Of Sherwood, told them Nasir was their own creation, so Costner's team re-wrote the name, as Azeem, for Morgan Freeman's role.
Ariel ALWAYS loved Humans and the Human world, she just happened to fall in love with one before inevitably becoming one! 🙄 Also Pocahontas 2 sucks and was a “love story” that never should have happened! 😠 Also why on Earth is Song Of The South being used in this videos thumbnail? It’s an amazing film, people just have it twisted and Disney should rerelease it! ❤

I never got the criticism about Shrek having adult jokes and innuendos,if you go back and watch Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes cartoons, they're full of the same thing.
That line isn't as bad as what certain historical figures did. Ivan the Terrible and Shah Jahan shared similar views about their masterpiece buildings (St. Basil's Cathedral and the Taj Mahal respectively), which were cutting people's eyes out to prevent them from looking at anything more beautiful than their buildings. Ivan was an infamous serial mutilator who died while playing chess and Jahan sent his country broke to build a fancy tomb for his wife.

The Cat In The Hat(2003) should've been on the list. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Every single popular family movie ever made since in today’s world some people have problems with everything including stuff that doesn’t personally affect or pertain to themselves personally.
Movies like Peter Pan have stereotypical portrayals of Native Americans and have the Darling children dancing like and imitating the natives in the song of the red men which is utterly offensive. Dumbo with the black roustabouts has them singing a work song about who they are and what they do, as well as the crows later on in the same movie. I gotta say that Disney has had A LOT of controversy in the past.
the title may need some tweaking, as the list focuses on family movies that were controversial at the time of their release, rather than overall, which is why some people are confused by family films of far greater controversy being missing from the list. Because they're delusional cultists that prefer to live in their own version of reality.
How is the nutty professor not on this list? I watched it with my 9 yr old the other day and she pointed out how much language is in it considering it's a 7+ rating. Between the language in the club and the language at the dinner table I was a bit off guard. Don't get me wrong it's still funny but perhaps not for young kids
Surprised Beetlejuice wasn't included for 'Nice f*cking model'
Here's the thing about "Pocahontas," if you want a 100% historically accurate telling of the real-life Pocahontas' story...that's what *_DOCUMENTARIES_* are for. Disney's film *_ISN'T_* a documentary, and it was *_never_* intended to be one either. It was intended right from the get-go to be a *_fictionalized_* depiction about a real-life historical figure.
So _why_ condemn the film for not being 100% historically accurate when that was _never_ its intention in the _first_ place? That makes *zero* sense to me and is completely *_STUPID._*
Don Bluth's "Anastasia" was released a couple years after "Pocahontas" and to the best of my knowledge, it *never* received controversy for not being 100% historically accurate, taking into account that _similarly_ to "Pocahontas," it too told a *_fictionalized_* depiction about a real-life historical figure.
"Song of the South" wasn't even on here...why is it the thumbnail??
also, I know it's historically inaccurate, but "Pocahontas" was one of my favorite movies as a kid...and it still is too
Home Alone is considered controversial? 🙄
I was expecting Dumbo, Bambi, Pinocchio, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame to be mentioned.

Shrek is an awesome movie. Everyone will always be offended by something seriously
I just grew tired of it due to the memes. xD
I used to watch Shrek and Shrek 2 quite a bit, but ultimately just got tired of 'em, and then meme culture just came in full blast.
I guess I also just plain ole "grew up" as well, yet I still sometimes laugh at potty jokes in other family films. :P I'm still 5 mentally. Sometimes 10.

Kimba and TLK start similarly, but go in very different directions
In the latter's case, it was a retelling of Hamlet.
Argument for the little mermaid movie the people arguing over the story, obviously have not read the story of it based off
The controversial comes from Those who read the book and saying its not a faithful adaptation, most of all Disney animated movies aren’t faithful to the original book so are the controversial start to complain about everything Disney movie?
Song of the South should've made that list too! The racist stereotypes were at their worst in it, so much that it's banned from official stores everywhere!
I'm kinda like I dislike how some critics view Ariel. Okay, I do have a critism towards The Little Mermaid which is indeed one of my favorite animated movie, especially how Ariel did, her goal of getting a chance for naive romance is her second rated goal. Her actual main goal is to connect the merpeople with humans and get peace between them.
The Emoji Movie had a lot of controversy when it came out
People caught on quickly about it being social media advertising.
Home Alone, E.T, Willy Wonka, Shrek are controversial family movies? Really??? XD
I kind of waited for a fake nr. 1 being Deadpool 2. Because Deadpool 2 is a family film 😅
I found it funny how Deadpool called out certain Disney films for killing off parental figures.
Robin Of Sherwood: Nasir.
Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves: Azeem.
what the heck?
@SirsasthNigam Robin Of Sherwood was made in the early '80's and had a saracen, named Nasir, and the later production of Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves, thought that the saracen was fact, what they didn't realise was that people who worked on Robin Of Sherwood, told them Nasir was their own creation, so Costner's team re-wrote the name, as Azeem, for Morgan Freeman's role.
Singer of "Let It Go" from "Frozen": Adele Dazeem
I remembered seeing some of these movies on television.
Ariel ALWAYS loved Humans and the Human world, she just happened to fall in love with one before inevitably becoming one! 🙄
Also Pocahontas 2 sucks and was a “love story” that never should have happened! 😠
Also why on Earth is Song Of The South being used in this videos thumbnail? It’s an amazing film, people just have it twisted and Disney should rerelease it! ❤

I never got the criticism about Shrek having adult jokes and innuendos,if you go back and watch Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes cartoons, they're full of the same thing.
And a lot more: smoking, gambling, racial stereotypes that were acceptable in their time, WWII propaganda, New Deal propaganda, etc.
Bill &Ted's Excellent Adventure: Phone Booth.
Doctor Who: TARDIS.

Yeah, I can see “Arabian Nights” from _Aladdin_ garnering controversy in this day and age.
No surprise Disney movies were on this list

When I was in sixth and seven Grade I was on my school's Bible Quiz Team. We once asked the pastor who taught us (his daughter was in our class) what he thought about HP. He said it was just a story (which focused on good vs evil) and as long as one didn't practice magic in real life then that's fine. So there were definitely religious leaders who didn't have an issue with it.
@@dieterdelange9488 given the fact that magic isn't real no matter how much you try the avada kadavra curse, the overly rligious people need to relax when it comes to movies like harry potter, the pastor you talked to get's it in a way it's story about good vs evil not you sure learn how to do spells even though magic doesn't rally exist

Song of the South is the cover and yet #1 is Pocahantas.
What was the reason for Song of the South being the thumbnail if you dont even say any word or so, even though we do know about it
Pocahontas. Almost nobody has seen it in a long time. Which other movies could have made this list? Song of the South, The Black Cauldron, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame to name a few. And I love Lion King and Little Mermaid.
Song of the South. Cluckbait everyone
Where The Wild Things Are should've been on the list because the movie's not like the book(Max has a sister when he didn't have siblings in the book, Max is eleven years old in the movie instead of being eight years old, Max's parents are divorced in the movie, etc.), and the movie has the bird creature's arm getting torn off. The Cat In The Hat(2003) should've been on the list. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Every single popular family movie ever made since in today’s world some people have problems with everything including stuff that doesn’t personally affect or pertain to themselves personally.
Happy 30th Anniversary, "The Lion King"🥳🎉🎊🎈🦁
I remember getting the Shrek VHS for my birthday one year as a kid and bring ecstatic! Screw the people who don't like shrek. They don't get onions...
Did you ever play the Shrek game on the original Xbox? Every time Shrek eats onions he farts. And every time he eats peppers he burps out fire.
I was the popular kid when I brought my Shrek VHS to watch on the school bus at the end of the 2001 school year.
I just unsubscribed. I will not be lied to.
ok, repeat after me: Shrek is NOT a children's movie. True, the crude humour tittilates 9 year old boys, but, it's not a kids movie.
the title may need some tweaking, as the list focuses on family movies that were controversial at the time of their release, rather than overall, which is why some people are confused by family films of far greater controversy being missing from the list. But then, there are more than enough of those to form an entirely new list too lol
Most of these a barely a drop in the controversial bucket. I say that as someone who takes most things way too seriously but not movies guys come on.
