This was a cool drive! I was able to follow along as you went past Verns on 190 then made a right onto 356 at the Shell gas station. I feel like I visited Onalaska.

Hello, Mr. Frank. Thank you for posting this video, it was nice to rehash old memories. I live in NC now, but I spent all of my life in Southeast TX up until 8 yrs ago. When I was a teen, (I'm 54 now) my favorite swimming holes were Kickapoo Creek and a place with a beach-like area where the road dead-ended at a lake. I seem to remember that there was an abandoned town purposefully flooded by Lake Livingston water authority? Sorry if my memory is incorrect. I would love it if someone could tell me more info about this, as I've searched everywhere on the Internet with absolutely no record of this event being mentioned. I do remember, some time later, hearing of a person trying to salvage cars out of the lake, but he was forced to put them back due to laws about man-made lakes. Anyway, I enjoyed your video; God bless you and yours.

Here's the link I found on the internet on google about creation of lake livingston. You may have to copy it and paste it into your browser.

I grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina and lived in Raleigh before I moved to Houston in 1981.

@@frankintx699 So you are a native tarheel. 😄I'm currently living in Western NC, in the mountain town of Bakersville - a quiet place that only had about 450 people when I moved here. I love it, it's like Mayberry! Quite an adjustment from being in and around Houston all of my life. I fell in love with these mountains and never looked back.

@@frankintx699 I think I figured out the answer to my curiosity about the flooded town. If I'm guessing correctly, the sawmill that grew the town in the early 1900's fizzled out when lumber was depleted, and people (I'm assuming) moved away, so the area of town underwater was probably abandoned. I had always been curious about the story behind the underwater buildings there.
