    I bought my suitcase from Renogy many years ago and didn't get any of those extras! Great Value. I've since made my own using 2 - 85 watt panels. I use both systems for different projects. I have a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 270 watt renogy panel mounted on the roof rack and 2 - 12 volt VMAXX Tank AGM Batteries. I just ordered 2 more VMAXX (6 volt) batteries to go along with the 300 watt Renogy panel on my Trailmanor Trailer. Solar is amazing. Enjoy.

    Fantastic setup. No need to be forced to camp only where there is electricity. I have seen some class A or C setups that they lay the panels on the roof directly. While it works debris from trees leaves , needles and pitch often get on the panels and not only reduce effectiveness but make for a hard clean up

    Thanks for this video. Been trying to figure out the whole wiring adapter puzzle. I, too, have a Zamp pre-wired travel trailer. So, why the two extension wires? Why not convert MC4 to SAE earlier and run one? I see you answered that below as you didn't know. Any new information? My guess is Renogy doesn't make an SAE to SAE extension.

Everywhere I have looked the videos show the wires from the solar going to a battery or powerpack but you run it straight to the Rpod (I have an Rpod as well). Is the battery to have/hold extra power? Why don't you use a battery? Thank you in advance.

    I agree there are not many videos on this subject. But why 2 individual cables why can they not just use a 10-2 or a10-4 and break them out with the pos and negative connections at ends? Seems like it would be a lot cleaner hook up with just one cable from rv to panel. Also they never mentioned to you that if polarity was reversed you don’t need an adapter, just switch the charging leads on the battery? Seems like they would have asked you that when you ordered it. But over all that seems like a very robust and user friendly set up you have there! Thank you for taking the time to show us! Great little camper there, you will get a lot of fun out of it.

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comments. I am not sure why the 2 individual cables. It may have to d with the amount of current. I did not want to mess with the battery terminals, so I opted to buy the attached polarity reverser. I keep everything packed and together for easy deployment. Renogy makes some great products. Take care and stay ready!

    • @Jobratedman
      @Jobratedman 4 года назад

      The SAE cables are set up that way. Both connections on one cable, . in this example, he had to adapt to teh SAE connections. Not sure why Renogy would have the odd single cable set up.

    Did you purchase a battery specifically for the panels you purchased, or did you use what came with the R Pod from the dealership? I just brought home last night (10/14/2017) my 2018 R Pod 176. I have much to learn about it. I can see already I need to fix the lock on the door. It is so loose it is ready to fall off. Two people who have purchased R Pods in the last month have had a leak from no sealant being used around the spoiler where they both found a gap where the wires were drilled into the top of the camper. Is all clear silicone the same? Can I use silicon sealant from Lowes to seal around it myself. I sure wish I knew an R Pod owner near me. I am so glad you explained the polarity issue. Knowing someone who has successfully hooked up a system that works is a big help. Thank you!!!

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  7 лет назад +3

      THe battery is the standard 12 volt battery that comes with the camper. Congrats on your purchase! Sounds like some quality control issues with the company. You can get caulking/sealer at Walmart in the RV section. Go on Facebook and join the R-Pod Owners Group. Best source of info out there and will answer all your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you for the video. Its great that you have a good shot of what's behind the panel. Why are the Zamp ports wired in reverse? Mine is also reversed. Why not just flip it around inside the RV? Also, what is inside the two little boxes behind each panel? I ask because I'd like to try connecting the panels in series into a 100V maximum MPPT controller. How is the padding on the carry case?

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching. I think Zamp did this to get people to buy their panels and other gear. I could have flipped around but researched the attachment and went ahead and tested it out. It works great. The two boxes behind each panel are just how Renogy has the panels wired. The case is good, not much padding, but it does protect the panels.

      @@biblesnbarbells Notice on the Zamp port that the positive (hot wire) is covered so as to not short out if you touched it unintentionally. It's a safety feature. The negative side is exposed on the port, so no problem if touched there.

      @biblesnbarbells  7 лет назад +1

      Great video, very informative! Just to be more cost effective you could also connect the MC4 to SAE adapter at the solar panel. Then use a SAE cable instead of the MC4 extension cable which is pretty costly compared to a 25 ft SAE cable for about $5. God bless.

    I would think mounting some semi flexible solar panels permanently to the roof of the camper would be less expensive than that Renogy suitcase solar panel. and would save all the hassle of setting up the solar panels and would not have to worry about someone stealing your panels when your away from the camper for any length of time. Also you would have more charge time on the batteries. I guess one could have both in case you wanted to park the camper in the shade and stretch wires over to a sunny spot.

    • @biblesnbarbells

      Solar on the roof means the camper is parked in the sun. Benefit though is charging while your traveling. Like everything, there are trade-off's

    • @JohnMichael-bu2vl
      @JohnMichael-bu2vl 6 лет назад

      @@2THXTRM good answer. I have pondered using solar panels in my 171. Since I would have to park in the sun and since the panels are on my roof I am heating up my entire travel trailer while charging. I always look for shades areas to set up temporary residence while camping. So, keeping my suitcase charger mobile and plugged into the zamp side plug seems much more logical. Thanks for the help with a more logical answer.
