this event got me on the edge of my seat. three hours of pure entertainment with great chess and even better commentary. thank you so much for this jerry in these times.
I just wanted to let you know... I’ve fallen asleep to so many of your videos! And I honestly mean that in the biggest compliment way ever..! I’ve also stayed up on sleepless nights so entertained by your content, as I scroll back years worth of your videos and I’ve prob watched em all, whether while awake or subconsciously while asleep lol. You have an amazing voice man thanks for casting! I have a big sleeping Problem but listen to your soft voice casting the amazing carlsen makes me sleep within minutes. Thank you
This is the perfect time mode for your commentary. Those casual comments about not allowing too much space or finding the best spot for the knight etc are so helpful for understanding the main ideas of the next few moves. Thankyou so much!
The best titled arena ever ... specially... (cant emphasize this enough) ... specially with your awesome commentary Jerry ... I live in a country that is hit really bad by the corona virus and your videos really help to have a good spirit... thank you 🙏
You really do an amazing job at commenting/explaining. Its less subdued/confusing than the usual hansen/rensch commentary. Its pointed, explains no superfluous detail, and nearly every sentence gives me something I hadnt thought about. Really enjoying watching this, thank you. Do you regularly stream on twitch? Would love to catch a livestream. In any case, hope you are safe and well!
Wish you commentated for pro chess events. I learned so much just by watching this video. It’s nice to see magnus play but also have you break it all down
Love you Jerry, thanks for doing the titled arena. I love seeing these rapid games. I learn so much from the games. Your commentary is insightful and entertaining. Perfect combination. Keep up the good work. Thank you so much.
Hey Jerry, you are my favorite chess RUclipsr! Thanks for making constant content and congrats on 400k subs! I've been with you since sub 100k! You think you'll ever expand on your chess beginner to master series? You seriously helped my game!
I feel like the fly on the wall at a nuclear physics conference. I enjoy the warmth of the room but I'm not sure why people are taking. "Thoughts of a solid 900 player."
Well done Alireza, very very talented. Carlsen phenomenal player but lost too many games in this tournament. Thank you Jerry, awesome content as always. Congrats on reaching 400k subs. The number of times I've fallen asleep listening to your commentary :P
i think carlsen should have just taken the risk and berserked more. i feel like thats what made the difference between him and alireza winning. props to alireza though for being able to play so good berserking nearly half his games.
magnus has gotten a lot weaker in blitz. He is definitely not at the level he was 5 years ago. Thats just facts. His classical and rapid remain godlike still on the other hand.
Hey Jerry! I have a request :) Can you do more classical games on Lichess where you analyze what is happening? I think those videos are great because you are able to explain your thought process in a way that helps me improve my own game. It's better than anything else on youtube. Other narrations either go over my head or are not explained helpfully. I also think it would be awesome if you would do them in a series by opening. For example a few games with Sicilian, then French Defense etc.
bishop takes Q is the best move. Bxb6 then black plays Rc1+, white plays Kd2, black plays Rxh1, white plays Qb5+, black plays Kf7, and lastly white plays Bb7 defending the pawn on e5. Likely, he didnt see Bishop x Q on b6. basically you are playing without a knight and rook for about 10+ or so moves (the knight on b2 gets pinned to the rook). but black bishop is staring at nothing and 1 of blacks rooks is in the corner h1. so basically white is attacking with bishop and Q and black is defending with a bad bishop, knight, and rook. Computer says white is +7.5. He probably was afraid of Qxb6 and then rook moves is discovered check. So he took the rook with knight, and now there is no funny business. but immediately after he plays Nxc3 Jerry says "he missed that he had queen there" and he clicked on b6 where the queen was. This implies that carlson missed there was a queen he couldve taken with the bishop.
I think his decision is just easier. Do you win a full rook with no conpensation and an easy way forward to win, or do you win more material but allow complications?
Hey Jerry, I think Magnus had another idea at 2:32:50 when he slid his rook to f1 besides trying to get the kingside pawns rolling. If he got his king over to h1 and the position stayed similar, then there was a very neat tactic other than just trying to push kingside pawns. Although black would probably not fall for it, they might because it would involve Magnus giving up the exchange for the third time in the game. For example, after Rf1, if a4, Kh1, and axb3? (Perhaps hoping to play Ba6 after Bishop recaptures on b3 in order to put pressure on c4 square as well as attack rook) However, white wouldn’t respond with Bxb3, but instead with Rxf6! If black doesn’t recapture, the white just wins back the bishop. If black does recapture with either the pawn or the rook, white will play his queen to g7 with check. Obviously black can’t block check with f file rook and Ke8 drops the queen. If Kd8, then white can play Bb6! Black can’t recapture since it wouldn’t be with check, hence the Kh1 move earlier, and white would respond to Qxb6 with Qd7#. So Magnus would’ve at least won back queen for rook in the end. Although it was a long shot, it is a blitz game and if black got too distracted by the queen side and their own plan, it might’ve worked.
Man, let me say this; you're a great commentator! I watched the whole tournament without getting bored, haha. You're probably gonna be a Grandmaster soon.
It's funny to see Carlsen playing all these junk openings with both sides with crazy wing pawn advances and somehow having amazingly promising positions straight away lol
