Richard Pryor's high as a kite 1980 interview on a movie set is pretty golden too. Search "Richard Pryor : High, Live, and Dirty on Mormon Television."
both have a point. i think peele does an unbelievably good job here as j.brown but it's a bit hard to see why this had to be made since it's the exact same thing as the original
Exactly! There's no point for him to recreate it unless he's going to be even MORE over the top and adlib much funnier stuff than James originally said. This comes off as just stale and boring if you've already seen and enjoyed the actual original interview.
I saw the original 1988 recording on RUclips 20 minutes ago and then found this remake and now my stomach is cramping up from laughing so hard. It truly was how he answered her questions with nothing that had anything to do with her question before she was even finished asking the question. I'm gonna try this at the board meeting this Friday.
I know! Even down to the tiniest details of facial expressions like the smirk Sonya does when James cuts her off. The inconsistent volume of their clashing voices as Sonya raises hers to speak through James’ random outbursts of song, it’s all executed wonderfully. I think it deserves an award of some sort for excellence in recreation.
Why? Its humor. OF course you don't have to agree...but you seem like a sanctimonious person buy telling everyone that YOUR opinion is better. I'll wait for your incoming witty reply.
coco nut I think he is bringing it back into relevance, like the interviewer said very prophetically sometime we forget then remember again. I don't think those of us alive then would readily think of this original interview when we need a laugh, so doing it verbatim is like a reminder that it happened and an introduction for folks who weren't around foe the original.
Definitely not cocaine. You can still be somewhat crisp on cocaine. Likely pcp. Also, you can see in the original that he was wearing the same outfit and gloves he was wearing in one of his music videos. He was likely up all night and went from the shoot straight to this interview.
This is the one man that I spent half of my paychecks on watching him perform. I have seen him at least 14 times. He will ALWAYS remain in my heart. Rest in Peace Mr. Brown.
Hi there. I was the Executive Producer of the Sonya show and in the control room and in her ear during this legendary piece of video which Jordan Peele has masterfully re-created. Please note: this interview was in 1988, not 1987. As far as being drunk..Brown was also arrested for possession of PCP at that time and we actually believe that was what he was on during this interview. Fun Fact: he calls out for Ted Turner because they had a relationship forged when Brown hosted a bizarre dance show on WTBS called Future Shock: ruclips.net/video/RZkLG0MGN-k/видео.html
So were both Peele and the lady playing the interviewer being fed the actual lines in their ear? I can't imagine anyone could re-create that entire interview from memory so precisely.
Brilliant recreation!! What makes this so entertaining is how well the actors do their roles and how faithful this is to the actual clip. My favorite part is when he says "cause I look good, and I smell good, and I feel good" and she replies "and you sing good." And he says, "and I make love good." LOL.
In both the real 1987 interview and in this re-creation, a lot of credit goes to the anchorwoman who somehow remained cool and collected throughout James's "answers" to her questions.
I just saw the original video the other night for the first time; ya know I'm having a shitty week but there's two dudes who make me say 'I feel good' ...James Brown and Richard Pryor. Jordan Peele you totally nailed it made me feel better bruh thanks
Great video, this video is not as weird as the actual interview; both actors are brilliant comic actors and can’t escape their perfect comic timing. The actual interview has awkward misfires and blank takes that ultimately make it more surreal. Love it.
Macho954 in my opinion he does that’s (You) if you think he doesn’t sounds like him but I’m not about to argue with a person on RUclips not my thing goodbye have a nice day
That's was an amazing recreation! wow, cannot believe I haven't seen this yet, thought I'd seen all Jordan & Peele content, not sure how this one snuck by me. That was just James being who he is, answering every question with a song title, high af, and hitting on the interviewer while on TV, and out on bail(or "out on love" as he calls it, lol) for abusing his wife, and yeah I'm pretty sure he was a different person at home. Dude was legend, and from a different time/space than the rest of us. He had an image to uphold, and nothing was going to stop that.
The original is probably the best thing ever caught on tape.

That's what makes it not funny. What's the point?
The actual interview is 100 times funnier.
Eddie's version is funny too.

Yup!

Only cuz it really happened and James brown played it off lol
He nailed it perfectly, even the facial mannerisms and ticks.
Far from it.

Yes, he's brilliant!
That's so racist. Clay. Unbelievable.
This is a perfect recreation of that interview!
AKA pointless. nothing new. a stale rehashing of something that once was funny. EXPLOITATION.

Dude I watched the original version and let me just say this reenactment was nothing short of amazing! What an amazing talent Peele is....
Bro was answering the questions with his song lyrics. “Get Up Off That Thing” absolutely killed me.😂💀
Totally agree! I've seen the original so many times and I love it...this is amazing!
I had seen the original interview before and as soon as he said "Livin' in A-meeeer-ri-ca", in this one, I lost it lmao.
I know. It's so perfect. I say that all the time randomly
jljf2f EXACTLY!!!

No it isn't. Rewatch the original
It is most definitely not word for word.

Just watched the original and for the most part it's word for word
MazBringsby majority of it, not a huge difference
Anyone else shocked at how much Jordan looks like James Brown??
I did a double take 😁
+E Dunlap I know right, the resemblance is almost scary.
yess lol
he do
hell yea
This is actually some of the most insane acting I've ever seen, it's actually in synch with the original interview.

This is hilarious. Peele is spot on. The original James interview had me dying
That shit was as authentic as it GETS.
He wasn't drunk he was high on PCP
1954telecaster really high on potent fry
why not both?
i know, wtf smokes dust without a few 40s and blunts to round off the edges?

Scotttv66 Thanks for the historical perspective . I saw that train wreck live also.
I loved the original. This is awesome too. I love Key and Peele.

That would be one Dr. Sonya Friedman, who deserved to have her show renewed for a thousand years after holding it together during that interview.
He said he’s “out on love” lmfao 🤣

Because Chadwick Boseman was damn near perfection. This doesnt show entire mannerism of James Brown. C. B was way better
