- The Swiss K31 is an old rifle that is still revered today because of its superior accuracy and smooth action. The straight pull bolt has a unique design over other bolt action rifles of the time period. The disassembly of the K31 bolt is much easier then it looks, and the engineering behind it is remarkable! This video demonstrates how to completely strip the K31 bolt and reassemble it.

Good job. I've always been a little resistant to take down the bolt assembly, but this gives me confidence. Good job. And you're right, if you're a surplus rifle affectionado and don't own a Swiss K-31 you're missing out on one of the best rifles ever past, present or future. To produce a K-31 today with its superb craftsmanship and quality would cost $2K to $3K. You can still get them for less than $500.

nice video. Just one little thing to add:
twisting the bolt sleeve wont help you disassemble it. You have to twist the boltface, as that is whats holding everything together! you need to rotate it about 90 degrees in order to get the sleeve of the bolt face.

Great and helpful video. My bolt turned out to be a little different. The charging handle had groves that needed to be aligned when replacing and my firing pin only fit on way. So if you are having trouble with putting you bolt back together you might want to see if you Rifle is like mine.

I think with a straight pull bolt action, it might be possible to design a bolt-action rifle that can be easily converted to a left-handed configuration. You just rotate the bolt carrier 180 degrees.
The syringe look is the first thing I noticed about it, ever since then I've often referred to it as the syringe gun.

The Swiss grease is called Automatenfett. The K31 maker was the Waffen Fabrik in Bern.
I like the K31 but I find it too fashionable and a bit small ;-)
That's why I've just ordered a G11 (Infanteriegewehr 1911) :-)

It's basically equivalent to a car's plate, or VIN number.

The grease is called "Waffenfett" which just means "grease for firearms". There is also "Automatenfett" but its more to be used in semi/ full auto firearms.

Awesome video... Thanks for the information... The bolt in my K31 had a light film of some type of 'oil' on it. The bolt seemed "clean" so I didn't wan to mess with it. Any pointers if I should clean it with some type of gun cleaner, or leave as is? Mine is from 1938
I think you should be just fine, however if it was me I'd get a grease on it and not oil. It will make the K31 way more smooth. Sweet that is a pretty early model! Does yours have a walnut or beech stock? Typically the walnuts have beautiful tiger stripes.

What's is the importance of concealing the serial number?
Do you know what type of great should be used to lubricate the bolt? Iwiped off the great in error and used CLP instead. Thank you
The Swiss used Waffenfett or Autowaffenfett. That grease is excellent!

Thank you! beautiful Video explaining very well. one thing tho!? where can we get that Walton grease? I used some little amount of Fire Clean + some gun grease just enough to kind of lubricate the surfaces of both metals sliding against each other. any suggestions please?
Autofettenmatt, I think you might be able to get some on Ebay. It might come in some old cleaning kits if you buy an original.

Yeah that stuff is awesome. Modern day products are great, but I always prefer the original grease.

P23X I grease the bolt, and just the point of contact that the firing pin mechanism touches the sear in the action. That is all.

Any reason why the serial number is duck taped?
***** I mean only around 500,000 K31's were ever made so i could find it somewhat reasonable to conceal the serial number. Then again I'll just stick to Mosin's because serial numbers for the most part on Mosin-Nagant's don't mean much.
***** So basically you're paying around 300-500 dollars for a bolt action that has one of the hardest ammo's to find? Why? I can understand it just being a collector's piece but for recreation it's nearly impossible.
And i honestly couldn't tell you why he would hide the number.

Why take the bolt apart? Unless something is wrong and a gunsmith needs to take it apart, no reason to. Manual specifically says so.
