Literally the only straightforward, full explanation (with variations) on how to disassemble the bolt of... Literally one of the most common rifles on the planet... This was LONG overdue. Thanks, and fantastic video!
I guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Aries Myles thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Just bought one of these from my local gun store. However, it was in battle worn condition and rusting all over. Thanks for showing us how to take it apart for cleaning! Best one out there.
I lucked into a battle worn, or stumbled into one I guess. Glad I didn't shoot a round, before checking bore. Looked like a hamster nested in it. Fouled beyond belief. Might have pulled a piece of a tooth out of it so far.
Until I watched your vid I didn't know there was more than one way to disassemble the bolt. Thanks for showing me an easier way. Good vid. I subscribed.
You should mention how to take out the bolt, out, not everyone knows to pull the trigger while pulling the bolt to release it. Nice touch 3 steps to remove the firing pin, very cool press against a soft surface and unscrew from the top, too easy, nice The video was well done and informative. Thanks
Great, I watched two others and still couldn't make any sense out of them. This one made it look plain and simple. Good demonstration, well done. and many thanks.
Very well done! I just picked up a Nagant, and your video is the first one I reviewed for the bolt takedown process. No need to search any further. TWO thumbs up, for sure!
Thanks for showing different ways to do this.Just got a rough non matching one. Wanted a shooter. for now. Definatly a simple gun. Haven't figured out what to doo about some mold on the inside of the stock yet. Didn't want to mess up the finish. It's never been refished which is a plus.
Thanks so much. Used this video to put my bolt back together after seeing what marks are on it. Was super easy to put it together even though it looked hard.
Thanks for this video! I was playing around with my bolt the other day and I almost had a heart attack when it started coming apart! I thought I had broke something.
Did the same thing. One I got is a mess. Soaked bolt in some tranny fluid and when rinsing it off, damn thing came apart. Already a franken gun, and figured it decided to destroy itself. lol.
Best Mosin Bolt Assembly and disassembly I’ve seen so far. Very clear, concise, and actually shows the camera (the audience) what to look for. Good job man.
Excellent video. I'm going to be looking at a friend's bolt as he said his safety is next to impossible to engage, so this has remained in the safe instead of getting used. gives me an real good idea of the what to look for.
Dude best disassembly video I have ever seen. I’m always a bit nervous to take apart my guns in fear I won’t get them back together but I tried your video out and I didn’t have any big issues at all I really appreciate it. Can you make other video with other guns plz
I know this vid is really old but for future viewers. I personally wouldn't recommend using the guide rod as a tool to remove/install the firing pin and spring. If you don't have the proper tool made for it, you can get one of those little ignition wrenches, or a small crescent wrench, anything but a part of the bolt. It's a tough chunk of metal but with so many other ways to do it, why risk spreading the end of that guide rod?
The Mosin Nagant bolt is an amazing piece of engineering. Every single component has multiple function and performs multiple things. Ever see the Benchrest Mosin made by Grimstod Desh?
Small world, sort of, I just finished commenting on the 10 year review of your AVX and saw this. I have a 1938 Czech VZ-24 Mauser, a WW II bring back, so all original numbering, that I bought from a friend for $50 bucks seven or so years ago. Looks like we have at least two common interests.
That’s cool! I had a ton of firearm video tutorials on RUclips, but most were flagged and removed, so my now my channel is strictly just astronomy based, unfortunately.
There are too many people who don’t know how to properly disassemble and maintain their rifles, too many grandpas who only bring it out to shoot a deer and never think about it, too many people who carry daily and rarely inspect or clean their firearms. Anyone who owns a firearm should adopt the militaristic mindset of taking care of your rifle (or handgun, shotgun, etc) and truly learn how it works and how to maintain the beautiful machine it is. I own a mosin and when I got it I found it too risky to try and completely disassemble the bolt so I only took off the bolt face and guide rail, this video was long overdue.
So I'm assuming it will reasonably go back together without the firing pin? I'm looking to test the headspace but I only have live cartridges. So if possible I'd like to just remove the firing pin and carefully chamber a round with the gage
That can be tricky. You can use harsh chemicals, but hurt the finish, but leaving it out in the sun will really dry it out. I used a heat gun and heated a spot, wiped it. Heated it again wiped it. I continually did this until the area was clean. Then I did that over the entire gun. It took forever.
Thanks for the simple breakdown. I own several rifles. However this is my first Russian rifle. I currently own a Russian Ural motorcycle and a Russian watch I got in Murmansk in 2000 as a Merchant Marine sailor. I guess it is now a Trifecta. :)
really wish I saw this video when we were removing cosmolline from my buddy's new mosin. We took it apart the 3rd way but now that I have one, I think i'll use the tool. looks alot easier! :D
Mine hardly had any in it. Just a few goobers in the bolt body and a light glaze on some of the other metal parts but almost none in the wood. I'm so happy I don't have to get cosmoline out of the wood :D
+Kyle Clark Lucky you! That is the absolute worst part. In fact, no matter what you do, I feel like I could never get all of it out. Ever. Every time I'd shoot mine, it would still keep coming out.
Everything was dead on with mine except the only way I could get the first piece off was to take the charging knob and move it to the right and pop it off. Other that that this was really helpful for my first time disassembling it.
the final method is very much like the Mauser disassembly when using the stock with the disk holes as a disassembly tool. Overall... seems like less of a pain in the ass than disassembling the mauser, there's less fighting against the compression.
Hi, interesting video. I've just bought a Mosin too, but it shoots on the right (it's ok in elevation), how to sight in in windage, in which direction should I move the front sight ? thanks
The third disassembly way reminds me of the Lebel M1886 and partially of the Mauser 98 I think it would be useful though unnecessary to have a stock disassembly disk like you see on the Mauser Gewehr 98 and KAR98K.
i never knew i could do that with the guide rod of the nagant bolt. i've been missing my multi tool after i moved and been struggling trying to rassemble my bolt without it
Haha! I've never thought of that, but it does. A friend of mine thought the tool was for opening vodka bottles. Guess he was wrong, but a good guess nevertheless!
I have a bad measuring tool the two teeth are the same length, should I be fine shoot if I tighten fully then loosen it up until the two lines on the firing pin are even with the metal?
I used that other fork part to unscrew the firing pin but it cracked right down the middle. It's a Russian 1943. Might have already been broken. Would that piece being broken effect it's performance?
never heard of a problem with too long Firing pins in the mosin, the only that can really happen is that the bolt becomes too short over time and simply wont fire anymore, but thats not dangerous as long as you wait a few secs after the misfire
I'm having a problem with my Mosin. Every time I slide the bolt back it cocks the trigger, like it should, but when i push it forward it fires. I haven't spent any rounds through it because i noticed it was doing this, thankfully. What is the reason you might think that the trigger is engaging when the bolt is brought forward?
+joe file When you finish reassembling the bolt, are you making sure that the nub on the charging knob falls back into place on the guider bar? That is the only reason why I could see that happening.
Its the most easiest way of making a bolt its easier then mauser bolt I still cant figure it out how the firing pin is threaded into the bolt and it can stay still when bolt rotates

@Aries Myles It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
@Reuben Rex You are welcome :)
I was literally unscrewing it and as soon as he said “it’s under tension” my spring launched out across the room
Zander Henley lol same
Same
hahah he beat me just to that part i was lucky to point it at my desktop
Me too! Lol
It was on its way to Russia!
Video gave me everything I was looking for without a three minute intro, thank you. Subscribed.
And didnt talk 5 minutes about a tool .

I was totally surprised by how simple disassembly was. Thank you for sharing this!

Great video! No random talking just straight to business. Thanks.
Thanks! Have a great 4th!
You as well
I'm am a new owner of a 1942 Russian Mosin Nagant. This was a very helpful video. Thank you!
Yes, indeed... this was exactly what I needed, thanks for the time and energy to put it up on YT!
Best Mosin dissassembly and assembly video on RUclips. Thank you very much
Eric Rasmussen You're quite welcome. I may make another one in even better HD soon.
After watching several videos trying to find the best way to take the bolt apart....best one so far. thank you. thank you. thank you sir.

Excellent!! Best video I've seen for making the Mosin bolt disassembly and reassembly an easy task. Thanks!!
You bet!

Thanks for making such a clear video. I may or may not have accidentally dropped my bolt and it came apart. Thanks for helping me get it back together
At least it's a russian rifle, so you know it's at least made well enough to be dropped without breaking
OUTSTANDING!!!! Simple, easy to understand instructions. Thank you.
I'm glad you found it helpful, thanks.
Any other how to videos on the Mosin would be most appreciated.
Thanks so much. Used this video to put my bolt back together after seeing what marks are on it. Was super easy to put it together even though it looked hard.
Outstanding instruction on breaking down the MN Bolt. I'm glad to know how to do this. Thanks!
No problem at all!
Thanks for this video! I was playing around with my bolt the other day and I almost had a heart attack when it started coming apart! I thought I had broke something.
Did the same thing. One I got is a mess. Soaked bolt in some tranny fluid and when rinsing it off, damn thing came apart. Already a franken gun, and figured it decided to destroy itself. lol.
I've owned one of these for a few years and didn't know the guide bar could be used to unscrew the firing pin - great video!
I am glad you learned something, thanks!
It's kinda like how the tip of the bayonet can be used as a flathead screwdriver to screw/unscrew the reciever
best disassembly and reassembly that I have watched out of all the others. Great job.
ItalianMafioso344 Thank you!
Dude you saved my ass 😂 I took mine apart and couldn’t get it back together. Fully confident now thanks for the THOROUGH video!
Couldn't unscrew my bolt for some reason but twisting the firing pin(as you did) instead of safety did the trick. Thanks!
+ItsAlexN Cool, I'm glad it worked out for you! Take care!
Best Mosin Bolt Assembly and disassembly I’ve seen so far. Very clear, concise, and actually shows the camera (the audience) what to look for. Good job man.
Thanks for the reminder. had to look it up how to do it again. I just finished cleaning 3 mosins!
Very good take down video of the bolt for the Mosin-Nagant very good video Best video out there!!!
Thanks!
Excellent video. I'm going to be looking at a friend's bolt as he said his safety is next to impossible to engage, so this has remained in the safe instead of getting used. gives me an real good idea of the what to look for.
You sure it's nice just stiff? They tend to be mighty stiff
This is the best video I've seen on this subject. Good job!
Dude best disassembly video I have ever seen. I’m always a bit nervous to take apart my guns in fear I won’t get them back together but I tried your video out and I didn’t have any big issues at all I really appreciate it. Can you make other video with other guns plz
Thanks. This helped me change a worn FP spring.
+Lance Langdon You bet! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Spaciba mate! I had trouble understanding it.... very precise and comprehensive vid. Molodets!
Quality lesson, just removed all the Cosmoline from by bolt. Your video makes it so easy from start to finish.
+michaelo1492 Good! I'm glad that you found it helpful!

Best video on RUclips for this 👌
Thank u I'm cleaning my grandpas old mosin he cant see well so I'm doing it for him. That and I took it apart like it's nothing and surprised him.
I agree. Nice video that should help any novice get it right.
“Use the mosin nagant multi tool that came with your rifle”
>tfw mine came from a shed under some wood
😎
Nicely done. Thanks for the refresher. Nice carbine too.
Whenever I returned the charging knob to the original position the whole bolt fell apart, ive been here 20 minutes trying to fix it please help

Nice! Simple huh?!
Only thing now im am not sure of is best way to clean stock..seeing leave it in sun and let heat out
That can be tricky. You can use harsh chemicals, but hurt the finish, but leaving it out in the sun will really dry it out. I used a heat gun and heated a spot, wiped it. Heated it again wiped it. I continually did this until the area was clean. Then I did that over the entire gun. It took forever.
Good video. Clear, concise info.
+huckleberry602 Thanks!
Thanks for the simple breakdown. I own several rifles. However this is my first Russian rifle. I currently own a Russian Ural motorcycle and a Russian watch I got in Murmansk in 2000 as a Merchant Marine sailor. I guess it is now a Trifecta. :)

i never knew i could do that with the guide rod of the nagant bolt. i've been missing my multi tool after i moved and been struggling trying to rassemble my bolt without it
Thanks for posting!!
This was very helpful!
Nice simple explanation. Thanks.
No problem!
Great video and great rifle .i love these rifles thanks for a great video
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I am reassembling the bolt and i cannot fit the guide bar on. I think i over screwed the firing pin and cannot get it unscrewed.
Fantastic video, straight forward information.
My guidebar doesnt slide on as easily as it used to. Does it need lube?
now I know how to take the bolt down. and what that strange tool is for. and is it me or does the bolt assembly look strangely like a submarine?
Haha! I've never thought of that, but it does. A friend of mine thought the tool was for opening vodka bottles. Guess he was wrong, but a good guess nevertheless!
Slymin the galil Hickok shows today has a wire cutter and bottle opener. Game set match galil.
Well there you have it then!
Awesome vudeo .. what parts to lube ..Tx
so you screw in the firing pin as far as it will go and the align the notches on the cocking piece? thats it right, because i dont have this multitool
is there anyway to tell if the firing pin is at the right length if i dont have that tool?
Hello. Thanks for your video. Had some trouble with assembling the bolt for the first time, eysterday:)
I've never had much luck loading bullets into stripper clips. Perhaps it's because I've tried to do so prior to assembling the entire CARTRIDGE???
When I pull the cocking knob back the guide bar comes off Any ideas?
Thanks for the great how to video!
🗣where can I buy this alignment tool ? How much ?
Also, is there another way to measure the head spacing of the firing pin without the tool ?
helped me out tremendously! thanks man
+Outdoorslayer 90 You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Just got an authenic PU and cleaned the bolt, how do i see if my pin is right length without tool?
how much is the chamber set price.. Tenks.
Is the bolt supposed to jingle
I have a bad measuring tool the two teeth are the same length, should I be fine shoot if I tighten fully then loosen it up until the two lines on the firing pin are even with the metal?
I would not use the guide bar for taking out the firing pine mine snaped off
Well done Sly, thanks.
I used that other fork part to unscrew the firing pin but it cracked right down the middle. It's a Russian 1943. Might have already been broken. Would that piece being broken effect it's performance?
Great video. Thanks
Thanks!
Best of the field stripping vids. Thanks!
Glad I watched this, forgot to check my firing pin. Good video great guns.
+trplpwr Yeah, definitely do that. You just never know! Thanks, take care!
Thanks again
+Slymin how important is checking the firing pin?
never heard of a problem with too long Firing pins in the mosin, the only that can really happen is that the bolt becomes too short over time and simply wont fire anymore, but thats not dangerous as long as you wait a few secs after the misfire
Informative video. Thank you!
Fantastic presentation. Thank you
+William Pennington You bet!
Thanks !!! Helped a ton
+Robert Smith Good I'm glad!
Could you explain what to do if the firing pin is too short according to the tool?
Personally, the only thing I would do is replace the firing pin.
Very nice video!
Saved my ass when I accidentally pulled back the charging knob and the bolt came all apart on me ^^;;
I am glad it helped!
Thanks for the video.
rafael cortez You're welcome, thanks for watching.
I don't have a tool to measure my firing pin, what's the dangers of s firing pin that's too long?
+AdamDguitars You could end up firing the round when you are closing the bolt
Hammer a hole in the back of the primer is also a possibility
Very well done!
Very informative video, thanks a ton.
You bet!

Very good video. Thank you Sir .
Its the most easiest way of making a bolt its easier then mauser bolt I still cant figure it out how the firing pin is threaded into the bolt and it can stay still when bolt rotates
