Fiber Week Webinar: From Symbols to Text: The Language of Quilting 2022-02-25

As one of the world's oldest forms of craft, quilting has shown up in garments and blankets throughout history and in all parts of the world. Aesthetics have been both specific to cultures and universally recognizable throughout history as quilting practices have evolved and spread. From common quilt block patterns to applique images to embroidered text, quilts hold stories and meaning both in the process of their creation and in the patterns and images they bear. We will explore the visual language of symbols, imagery, and text in quilts from a variety of places and moments in history.
