Mam unga akka kuda unga annan kooda joint family doesn't matter or may be less consequences. Kalyanam panni purushar family kooda joint family ya irukardhu than matter. Have faced alot.. young people can adjust untill and unless the elders are not too restrictive and feel authoritative all the time over their daughter in laws. Which is very very important. What words you use even if you want to scold matters most. Without that control over your words (be it the daughter in laws or mother in law) no one can survive in joint families.
